Over the last year I've been raking through my old games collection and pulled out some gems that I haven't seen in years and forgot how good they actually where. It makes me wonder why games ain't made like that anymore. For instance, I ended up digging out games like Syndicate, Diablo, Monkey Island and X-Beyond the frontier. So tell me Escapist, what games do you miss that you think should have a nice revamp or you advise other people to play?

I miss old school games, i think a lot of them were so much harder than some modern day games

Theres plenty of games people should play, the first 3 monkey island games, the original sonic games (up until sonic3/and knuckles) streets of rage, golden axe, any of the mortal kombat games before they went 3D, silent hill 2 (if that counts) and thats just a few off the top of my head, oh and q*bert, that game is awesome

i just started playing through megaman x again recently.. was pleasantly surprised to find out i still remember where all the hidden item are, even though i haven't played it in like a decade... but damn that game is tough as a week old shit... i cant really say if its the nostalgia speaking but limited lives and continues really do make a game more challenging... i just dont get the same satisfaction from finishing newer games... doesn't feel like i've overcome anything through skill, but just pure bloody minded persistence...

The best racing game ever created by humans. With some of the best mangled english music ever to be sung by a japanese man. But it's gotta be the Arcade version cause the ports suck. Try finding the Sega M2 Arcade Emulator.

And while your going through old Arcade emulators...

Gokujyou Parodius
Metal Slug 1,2,X,3,5,6
2020 Super Baseball
Samurai Showdown 1,2,4
Waku Waku 7
The Outfoxies
The Cliffhanger Edward Randy

MAME32 is awesome.

Good picks. But I don't know about Starfox Adventures. It was kind of the Phantom Menace of the Starfox games imo. Though, in a campy aspect, the whole Dinosaur language thing was hilariously bad; as was all the Furry Drama.

Games like Diablo are still made. Quite often. There were the Champions of Norrath series, Titan Quest, Fate, and Torchlight.

I know that the OP mentioned Syndicate and I know that PSN recently re-released Syndicate Wars, but SW would be great with a revamp. GTAIV meets CoD. Class!

On an even older school note, there was a game that few may remember called IK+. It was probably the simplest and also most addictive beat 'em up of all time. An update (not a reboot or revamp) of that would be a dream come true.

How about a modern day Sensible Soccer? That was better than Fifa and PES put together back in the day.

Oh man, I remember syndicate! I didn't really do much in it beyond mind melding everyone in town but that was pretty awesome in itself.

Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 was my favorite old school game. Some dialogues were really funny and gameplay was good. If you didn't enjoy the box in MGS, you have no soul :p

Wow. Hearing allot of games that everyone has said brings back allot of memory's. I forgot about allot of the games that people said. I have to admit with whats been said though. Games that are made today ain't as challenging and it's disappointing relay. Me and a friend where playing the Golden Axe games the other night when we reached the 3rd level he turned to me and said "Wow, I've never reached this far!" Thats something that makes me smile slightly. Even though these games do get annoying they are fun and you can't beat em.

On another note, more games I remember playing are:
Final Fantasy 7 (I know it's not that old school but it's amazing and deserves to be up there)
Gauntlet
Altered Beast (I'm shocked no one else has mentioned this)
Streets of Rage

I liked it atleast, but not as a starfox game.

For me, Rodland is still the greatest game ever.

I used to play it on the amega 500, however the cathode went out in the screen a few months back.

I am looking for the 1993 gameboy version
