Mainly because the universe that's selling right now is the new alternate timeline. My second post in this thread explained the situation pretty well -- they made a new timeline so new fans could be brought into the series without having to know anything about it. They purposefully rendered all but one of the TV series non-canon to the new timeline, so that continuity would not get in the way of anything. They also made the movie for Star Wars fans, not Star Trek fans. I have a feeling we'll see about as much original universe Star Trek in the future as we've seen prequel and special edition free Star Wars since 1997.Dense_Electric said:If you're aware that it's set in an alternate universe, why do you claim they destroyed the post-Enterprise continuity? And how can you claim we'll never see another original-universe series? I'd be willing to bet that, following the inevitable financial success of Star Trek XII, we'll see a new original universe series before too long (hopefully on par with TOS or Next Generation).Owyn_Merrilin said:I guess if I could get something remade, it would be the 2009 Star Trek movie. I'd have it remade so the stupid thing didn't destroy the timeline of every series after Enterprise. They talk about it being an alternate universe, but we all know we're never going to get a new series in the original universe. I would have preferred to let the franchise die than see it disgraced like that.
