I must say I'm loving this so far.

Not gonna spoil too much but let's just say the writing and dialogue are top notch, as are the characters I have met so far. Dr Dala, (imagine Glados as a pervy sex maniac) is one of my favourite characters I've met in any Fallout.

It is very similar in tone to the original Fallout games - demented, 'did they really just say that??' style black humour.

The location is huge and has lots of hidden places to explore - kinda almost reminds me of Fallout 3 more than New Vegas at times.

EDIT: Not digging the bullet sponging, endlessly respawning enemies, mind you. Feels like feckin' Far Cry 2 trying to get around the place.

How are you guys finding it?

Herp derp, I just posted a thread on this right after you did. I'll import my post there and kill that one off.

I jest

I'll try to keep this spoiler free on my end, not that I'm terribly far in anyway. Just make sure you tag it if you want to talk about spoiler-ish content.

Anyway, I'm sort of mixed so far. The, while good, is poorly-paced. The first 30 minutes of Old World Blues (not counting some extremely light exploring of the area you start in) is one conversation. It's an thoroughly entertaining conversation, but I can't help but feel that some of this info could have been issued differently (say, being spoken to via your Pip-Boy as was the case in Dead Money). After that, I've been set free in a fairly large environment that includes some interesting locations, but these places don't have as much story to them (what I mean: I'm not finding anything comparable to Honest Hearts' "Survivalist" logs. There is one cave I found which foreshadows the sure-to-be conflict in the final DLC, though).

I'm expecting it to all come together soon, though. I'd just like a bit more context with some of the places I've been in so far, as they seem very interesting.

The one thing a lot of people will want to know: The loot is fantastic.

Lol.. we'll see. Probably more likely it'll get a brief mention in a general New Vegas song.

A lot of strange things in the main game are explained in this DLC... not gonna ruin it for you though ;)

I love it myself, but I don't really enjoy the fact that I had to run through the same gauntlet like 5 times in order to get by. But otherwise, I find it hilarious, the setting is cool, and the roboscorpions can go fuck themselves. The loot is pretty cool as well.

Just bought it, looking forward to playing it. Once I finish this and the next DLC for New Vegas, I'll probably be done with the game for a very long time. I love the game but I've totaled like 270 hours or so on the game and I'm getting a bit burnt out on it.

Really? I just got NV for the first time yesterday. Tell me, are the other DLC's worth it as well?

I can excuse a poor story *cough*The Pit*cough* if I get some really cool things.
People are so split on the New Vegas DLCs, so you'll be wise to get more opinions than mine.

Loot-wise: Old World Blues>Honest Hearts>Dead Money.

A caveat: Dead Money can get you a lot of regular items easily (stuff like Stimpacks, Mentats, basic ammo, etc) and you can earn a lot of caps at the end if you play your cards right. The story is also good for Dead Money, though it's so chock-full of tedious gameplay mechanics that ultimately made me hate the DLC.

This is coming from a guy whose character through all of this has focused on Guns and Light Armor (not a skill, but there is a perk you can get that makes light armor much more advantageous). Aside from that, I've focused on Science, Speech, and Medicine. People who have different kinds of characters will likely think differently than I do.

Honest Hearts gives you the pistol to end all pistols (A Light Shining In the Darkness) and the rifle to end all rifles (The Survivalist's Rifle). You also get a nice set of light armor in the end (though Dead Money has an equally useful set of light armor for stealth based characters).

Old World Blues gives you everything you need, no matter what your focus (maybe except for Explosives, but I'm not sure).

Dammit, I just gave away my copy. Probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, have no Microsoft point. Just have to wait for the GOTY.

You think that's Derpy? I clicked on your thread and started wondering why my OP was gone and replaced by yours.

How does it compare to previous DLC? I have to say they both disappointed me greatly.

Much better so far, but I'm only an hour in. It seems very dialogue heavy, which is good.

Ah, but is the loot better than in Vault 34?

[sub]Don't judge me. I haven't completed New Vegas yet... Those carbines were very welcome though.[/sub]
