I found the story and gameplay fun, but I found the enemies repetitive, overused and irritating. Although I am glad we got another glimpse of Ulysses before lonesome Road.

I finished it. I have to say I'm very impressed with this DLC, I didn't explore nearly everything there was. I ran out of stimpaks. xD

Just tried out the Proton Axe on some robots - that thing is beast! And there I was worrying about running out of ammo.

Yup, it really takes care of those annoying robo-scorpions. Too bad I found that out after the main quest of the DLC. xD

DOCTOOOOOOR VENTURE! Or someone who at least sounds like him. Haven't really started the main quest just looking for Ulessyse's.
Yea. It's the same guy who does Dr Venture's voice.
This is the only Fallout New Vegas DLC I've been interested in so far but I think I'll just wait and get goty for the pc. I long ago got tired of watching this game crash and freeze my ps3.
I'm just getting into a modded up playthrough of Fallout 3 goty anyway.

I've only sunk a few hours into it at the moment, but I am bloody loving it. The characters, the humour, everything I've run into so far has been top draw. Well, except those Lobotomites carrying Proton Axes. Smart-arse me thinks the best character to take into this DLC would be my Int based tech guy, so in goes that particular character with his beefed up science, medicine and energy weapons skills and (crucially) his gauss rifle and Remnant power armour. Those f*cking axes hurt.

I'm tempted to get it, but I don't know; I haven't got any of the DLC for Fallout: New Vegas yet;
Dead Money... well the whole obscene difficulty and lack of awesome stuff put me right off it; didn't get it because of that. Plus the fact it sounds like it has no replay value puts me off it.
Honest Hearts; I have been tempted to get it, I mean the idea of using .45 weapons is pretty cool, but I dunno; is the story for it any good? Is it a place worth going back to?

Considering how in hindsight how much of a letdown the DLC for Fallout 3 was, I dunno if its worthwhile; is the DLC as good/better than the best stuff for 3? How big are they, can you explore much? How much replay value?

Jesus, my character is level 40 and this DLC is hard as hell (Granted I am playing on hard but still) Lobotomites have freaking brush guns and shiskebabs, and take quite a few shots before going down.
That sounds like its going to be fun. I am also on the hardest difficulty and on hardcore, though I only just hit level 33.
Heh good luck. Even if you don't have a good melee skill, if you find a proton axe or the stronger variant, make sure to use it on the scorpions. That was the only way I could effectively kill them. ;-;

As someone who really enjoyed all three of the New Vegas DLC's, I think they are much better than 3's DLC. Dead Money is the smallest, but there's hidden areas and it's pretty much just a straight story. I'd say Old World Blues and Honest Hearts are pretty large, Honest Hearts is a bit more constricted since it's in a canyon though. Content wise, Dead Money and Honest Hearts lasted me about 8 hours, and Old World Blues about 12, exploring everything and exhausting all dialogue options. As far as replay value goes, I'd say they are more replayable than three, there's a whole epilogue with multiple endings for all the DLC and different outcomes and paths as well.

I guess I need to look up who Dr Venture is so I can see what everyone is referring to.

I am about twenty minutes into it and it is by far already the best dlc yet. I just barely finished the first conversation with the robots and the sink. Went outside, killed off a few enemies and that was it.

Plus I am pretty dam sure its got DR VENTURE in it.

Old World Blues gives you everything you need, no matter what your focus (maybe except for Explosives, but I'm not sure).
I havnt actually gotten very far myself only like 20 mins in but what do you get if you make the gun skill check during that first conversation? I only have like 20 guns skill as I focused on energy weapons and explosives with a little melee this playthrough.
You get a really cool minigun that uses .38 magnum ammo. The magnums (.45 and .38) are definitely the most common non-energy ammunition you find in the Big Empty. I've heard you can also earn this gun later if you didn't pass the skill check.

There is one of those Y-17 Master Trauma Harness enemies in X-12 that attacks you with one.

Have you gotten the FIDO yet?

I have the schematics. The next time I find a workbench, I'll get to upgrading the K9000. I would go to the Sink and get it, but I'm out trying to find the rest of the upgrades for the place.

I just beat it today. It's probably my favorite DLC for New Vegas (it's hard to top Joshua Graham, though). Sometimes the plot didn't make much sense to me, but maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention.
The voice actor for "Rusty" Venture (Venture Bros.) is Doctor 0 :D

In my humble opinion, it's the best DLC so far for New Vegas. Dead money focuses on too many cheap gimicks, and I despise the characters, espically that ghoul. The lack of decent kit as well makes me cringe, and I still haven't beaten it. Honest Hearts has some really decent kit, but the story is dreadful. You are only forced to talk to Joshua twice, and he plays a small role in the DLC. Most of it is a treasure hunt and the ending is either kill lots of people, or kill lots of people whilst running away.

Old world blues has fantastic gear, a really good story and the best dialoge I've seen for awhile. Talking to the scientists at the begining is hilarous, and the amount of background info revealed here is fantastic. It also has one of the most creepy new foes (who actually remind me of that doctor who episode in the libary and even refernce those episodes if you have the wild wasteland trait) and some really cool features added. I'll admit that dead money is good for being espically challenging and for changing the game's style, and honest hearts had one of the most intresting and saddest characters in it (Desert ranger) but old world blues wipes the floor with those two. Well worth every penny.

Thank you good sir. That is amazing news as it means I dont have to go reload a previous save and level up a few times.
No problem. I had two, so I kept my modded K9000 and turned the other one into FIDO.

Old World Blues is incredible. The loot is really well designed, the story is intricate as well as fun, and everything you finish has this nice sense of being worth your time. In particular, every upgrade to your new home base is tweaked in such a way that each piece feels special in its own right.

And for the scholarly nerds out there, well...let's just say that the references are both deep and fairly highbrow as far as these things go. I would say that the ones that stuck out the most for me are the Venture Brothers references (James Urbaniac is in this! On a more minor note, one of my favorite quotes from Dean Venture gets twisted a little), the various references to Science! in the '50s sci-fi sense, and near the end some excellent Futurama references. There are a bunch of others, but those are the biggies for me

Main criticism: the combat is bastard hard. It's not out of place considering that this is the lair of a crapload of mad scientists, but if you don't prepare you are going to get your butt killed and fast.

Bottom line: this DLC is the dream of all the Obsidian fans who groan every time they release something buggy and unfinished that still holds so much promise of a truly great game. This time they had the time, the care and the QA, and it shows. Phenomenal work. BUY IT. It would absolutely have been worth it at $20.

I agree with you, except for one thing: I liked Honest Hearts' story. Joshua Graham played too small a part in it though. I love all my roommates in The Sink.
