Kotor 2, the writing was good, (except the ending), it was grey in moral choice, and the gameplay was good old crpg. Give it a better budget and give it to a studio with a better tack record than obsidian, and it'll be really good.

I was going to say Planescape torment too, but that game had so much dialogue it would take years to remake.

Elite Force. It has an excellent narrative with interesting characters, and there's a fuckton of variety: horde shooting, run-and-gunning, stealth, etc... The only two things they need to make better are graphics and AI. Hell, just reprogram the AI a little bit. Maybe make the guns feel/act a bit more powerful.

I'm going to say an oldie I just recently tried thanks to GOG's big sale: Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. Good FPS that I think could be a good remake, what with playing both on foot and in a big mech...

You stole my idea! And my avatar of JB! But yes, TIE Fighter is a must. Unfortunately, with the way Lucasarts does business nowadays, it would probably be released as a mediocre version of Rogue Squadron. Rogue Squadron is a fun series, but it is way too arcadey to contend with the old Flight Sims.
I would like to third this, TIE Fighter or X-Wing vs TIE with a modern reboot polish would be fantastic.

Also, I would kill for a Wing Commander reboot starting with a remake of the first on up (but not Prophecy). Space flight sims need a rebirth.

They really do. What was the last one, DarkStar One?

Pokemon. Get Bioware to do a dark reimagining of the series in which the main character starts out as a bright-eyed boy wanting to become a trainer and after realizing the cruelty which is imposed on them by society, needs to choose between following his dream or fighting for the rights of his pokemon.
And the sales would plummet. This is kind of missing the point of the thread, too.

Yeh FF-IX. Cept the only thing they can do to it is improve the graphics and speed. Everything else must be kept as is. Anyone tinkers elsewhere they get their fingers cut off.

I think Star wars Battlefront I and II should both be remade/given an hd rerelease.
That would be so much fun

Fallout 1 and 2.

Give it some amazing graphics, stomp the bugs, add all the stuff that was in the Restoration mods, improve the turn-based gameplay a bit and maybe even add an option to play in real time (but that would probably be too drastic and would greatly affect some perks/traits).

Morrowind, hopefully for the PS3. I'm tortured by the fact that I can't play it.

And before you say it, no. My PC can't run it. ;~;

Basically, any classic from the PS1-N64-Saturn era. The experimental nature of the 3D jump meant that many games, even some of the best, suffered from poor gameplay; after all, the only way to learn what worked and what didn't was to try. And, of course, early 3D games have not aged well visually. I'd say sprite art tends to age better (the major exception being early "3D" games, like Wolfenstein 3D), so I think remakes/updated ports of those games should use the same basic visuals with some minor tweaks (like getting rid of that blinking from having too many sprites on one line).

As for specifics, I'd love to see portable Sweet Home, and I think the eagle-eye camera and combat screens would both look good with a 3D effect.

The same games I always say when people bring up this topic. Wing Commander, Mechwarrior (2), TIE Fighter, and Independence War.
Quite possibly the four greatest games of all time.
