Is that a total gaming [cult] classic, though?
In some ways, yes, but it seems to be one that many don't recall or fail to recommend whenever the topic of "older classic games" comes up.

That's why I listed it.

My first game console had six games. One of them was 'tennis' aka Pong. Then there was squash (singles and doubles), which was Pong against a 'wall' and football, which was Pong with two bats each side. There were two light gun games. One with a bouncing square target, and another with a square target that went across the screen. Those never worked for me. You could make the bats small, and the ball speed up and the bounce angle sharper. Do all of them and that was hardcore. You weren't there, man, you didn't see it...

Then there was every game ever published for the Spectrum +3. Was I the only person who ever had one of those? Remember Bloodwych? The first ever Football Manager? Zoids (the crappy spectrum version - not the Commodore one)? The Magic Knight games? Novagen's Mercenary? Driller? Total Eclipse?

You can never go back.

Commender Keen?
I don't think it applies to "no one remembers", a lot of people remember Commander Keen fondly.
he's a major figure in old halfchan /tg/
For me.
Kingdom under fire, all of the early ones personally heroes.

Terminal Velocity. It was one of the first aerial combat games I played and I loved every minute. Nothing quite like flying up through the clouds and obliterating an enemy craft to a badass panpipe soundtrack.

Joust on the NES. Simple, easy and was really fun.

Hexen was really really hard for me when I was little on the PC.
Midtown Madness! I looooooved that game and would love to see a remake of that. It was odd, clunky at times but the fact that your car could show damage or be totaled blew my mind.

The PS2 had an incredible amount of games that not that many people remember. Granted, it is just my opinion but I thought The Getaway and NBA Street II were really really good games or showed a lot of promise.

Yeah, the whole of the 80's, mostly.

Blast Corps, tho, on the N64... why did that game never get more press? It was awesome.
