My favourite is the housewife who was randomly told by aliens that some magical planet (that every astronomer seemed to have missed) is going to come so close to earth that it'll fuck up the magnetic field of our planet and cause catastrophic events like tidal waves and earthquakes and everyone will be killed. This was originally planned to happen in 2003, but when it didn't the aliens changed their mind and it's now going to happen in 2012.

Its going to come, go and the idiots who said we are going to die will look like tits.

like on 2000 and the other "We are going to die" years.
Actually, loyalty to apocalyptic cults actually increases if the "day of days" doesn't happen. They think they got their math wrong or something.

I'd have to say religion (and the people who worship- at least the die hard ones), since they base their beliefs on old scrolls, that is more likely than not pure fiction, and is usually not even a good read, by most standards.

Did I push it with this one? *Puts on flame-shield and prays(the irony) the mods won't intervene*
I think what you mean is that these books of religion were written by humans, and that since humans are imperfect, everything in these religious texts can be questioned. but hey its hard to prove either way.

I believe the mayans thought the would come to an end 2012 and the other stuff on there calender are days they believed the would win a great battle or stop evil from taking over the world. 2012 could also be the time there god would come down and release them into the universe like the fire-birds already in the night sky. It could also be the time the the guy from the future is from. This man gave them basic technology so people in the future would think that they were very advanced.

A man has actually recently claimed (NOT THEORISED, SCIENTIFIC THEORIES ARE NOT HYPOTHESES) that the earth didn't go around the Sun and didn't rotate at all. He made a video and put it on Youtube and I watched it and couldn't stop laughing.

All of existence is just a video game and when we die the video game stops and we start another video game.

The Flat Earth Society takes the biscuit. Yeah guys, despite the fact that even the Greeks of 2500 years ago knew that the Earth was round, you're still going to stick your fingers in your ears and deny completely a totally proven fact?

Wow, I suppose they deserve a medal for conviction at least.
The earth is not round. This is fact.

The Moon Landing was faked

The classic crazy people talk like that.
I actually am sceptical about the moon-landing, as I don't see how a flag can flutter in space.

But yeah, 9/11 was an inside job tops the list.
More than that, the flag is a fine point, but how do you explain no stars? And why is it becoming such a issue for them to go back? It seems like NASA avoids it like the plague, its not even funny anymore.
it does seem strange that we are not heading back to the moon, especially since we have found large quantities of water there. I mean, the moon is the perfect for a base for building ships, low gravity, fuel, air. And for the colonists, there is water, air and the capability to grow food. The moon is perfect for our stepping stone into space, but we aren't taking advantage of it for some reason.

O.T.: 2012... nothing is gonna happen, a fact i am sure you are aware of. The whole thing about the Mayan's knowing something that we don;t is bull honky. There is no physical earthly reason (that we can detect anyway) that the world will end in 2012.

Woo! Another victory for sensible people!

We might just turn the tide in this war.
Yea- no. I'm pretty sure whatever the time is, whether it's a utopian or post apocalyptic future, there will also be stupid people. Even if we are "winning" this war on intelligence, there will always be stupid people and they will even TRY to be stupid. Sorry, but that's the way the world will go.[sub](even if you are being sarcastic. I just needed to point that out for others :p)[/sub]

OT: I actually love bullshit conspiracy theories. They make me feel good about my intelligence.

One of my favorites are UFO abductions. Ever notice that the people who get "abducted" are usually not that bright? Maybe, if the aliens do exist, they take the stupid humans so that will benefit humanity. XD

Thank you aliens.
