so i was playing morrowind last night (until about 7am, it was a very long session), when i started asking myself these questions about wha i was doing in the game. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this game? or other games?
Madshaw had an amazing opertunity for self thought last night. Two weeks ago when he arrived on this strange island of Varfandell he had no idea that he would be now fighting for the ashlaner people who had been the bitter enemies of his kin the Nords of Skyrim. But here he was, seemingly the only man that was prepared to help them.
He had come to their lands, sent by a man that he had never trusted, to infiltrte their people, learn their secrets and stop their foolish profecies and hopefully kill them all. But that is not how things worked out.
Caius (was that his name, it had been too long since he'd had any real rest) his spymaster seemed to have completly lost is mind. First he had told Madshaw to find work with vaious mercenry organiations, which he had, and he had become very sucessull. He was a good fighter, but because of he prices peasants would pay for weapons made of the ebony that was born into their own soil he was set for life. Earning over 30,000 coins from just 7 weapons and peices of armour, he could have gone anywhere and been rich enough.
But he was restless. So he carried on, he fought he killed he followed the blades orders. But the orders were not what he expected, he was to bribe and con his was into the heart of the ashlanders, become their sacred savior. But then something he hadn't expected happened.
He became their sacred savior, not for the purpose of betrayal and their destruction. But to do exactly what their profecies foretold.
It came to head after fighting both the same deadra worshiping scum he has fought and killed at every opertunity he has ever had, but this time there was a difference. There were temple witch hunters there.
In his quest to be named nerevar, of some other ashland scum tribe, he had been attempting to make a deadric shrine into a "safe place" for them to stay. They had not defined what a safe place was, so Madshaw went around the shrine and wiped out everything that would have attacked him. Dremora lords fell alongside the scum that worshipped them. Also witch hunters.
He introduced himmself to them as the newbourne nerevar, and so they attacked him, the hippocrite tribnal temple slaves acted exactly how he had been told they would. Others didn't, he lied to them and told them he was looting. So the teple are happy to ignore sinners and theives, but as soon as somone points out the inherant hippocracy and lies, hidden just below the surface.
After killing off all the deadic worshippers that wanted to fight, and chatting to some and drinking sujamma they gave him he left slightly light headed. leaving past live ordinators.
Ordinators that are known for persecuting ash landers. Ordinators that use terror torture and kidnapping to reinforce the lies of the tribunal that has persecuted the ash landers for centuries.
So the deadric hrine would not be "safe". Madshaw returned to the inner shrine and worked his way back through the complex putting every one of them to the sword. Then he came upon the scamp orc and masked nrd that worshipped here and had given him the booze.
They were worshippers of deadra, they could not be trusted to remain peacefull. he struck down the orc first, two swings from his longsword felled the warrior, the scamp and nord did not react. the nord died in three strikes, he shouted at adshaw oce attacked, but was knocked to the ground, by the first chop from his great ebony longsword. he was dead before e could attack.
The scamp still did not attack, it fell to one strike. Had he killed three innocents, were they innocent? were their beliefs alone enough to condemn them to the sword? was he acting in the sam fashion as he temple ordinators that were here?
He did not know. the shrine was safe for the ash laner tribe. that was what mattered? his orders? to fullfill his duty to his emporer? the sam emprer that allowed slavery and deied the people of this land the rigt to mine the ebony beneath them and live rich and peacefull lives? or the emporer that supported te corrupt house nobles like haallu tel vanni and dren?
faling to his knees he dropped the ebony greatsword infront of himself. Questioning everything about himself. His armour, his body and hs sword. Umbra. how should he continue?
