I hate to sound like an indie jerkwad, but if it were to become as big as IGN or Gamefaqs it would draw the attention of the unwashed masses and they would ruin it.
The Escapist will be fine though, so long as I am here to maintain and protect it.

Ah...now it shall become a hive of scum and villainy.

The Escapist will become a glorious internet empire. However, it will be attacked by 4chan and destroyed in a massive flamewar. Afterwords, three remnant sites will appear called V-scapist (Escapist videos and staff members) Shadow of the Escapist (Original Escapist forum community) and New Escapia (troll site).

What?
Sounds like you planned it out...

I'm on to you...

If it does, I will be a very sad Escapist veteran.
That's right. Every single one of us are veterans of the Escapist.

What would they be, great prophet?

Edit: I think it will either be closed or basically the same as it is now. I couldn't personally see the escapist becoming an IGN or Gamefaqs.

Yahtzee is incredible popular, and as such has made the website a lot more known then it was pre-yahtzee.

Eventually the site will get too big, and descend down into IGN or Game faqs level, due to there being so many members making it harder to moderate.

Yahtzee's the Catalyst of the sites demise *que over dramatic ominous tune*

I don't think it will ever be that big, but I definately see it growing a lot larger.

I disagree entirely. A certain level of popularity isn't only good, but necessary. Pre-yahtzee this was a very low traffic site. Yahtzee brought in more traffic and a stronger forum. Certainly he has drawn some unlikable posters, but they are few compared to the number who were brought here by him and actually contribute something to the forum in a decent way.

I would argue March Mayhem is a far bigger catalyst of doom. Every march is full of trolls and threads that aren't worth a damn. It's almost as though the Escapist doesn't exist for a month.

Has IGN even been around for ten years?

I can't really think of many sites that have been around since the intertubes started back in 20XDX that survived a decade, but then again I'm not thinking very hard.

I'm sure someone will offer YZ more virgins one day and he will sign a contract with that site, and all the YZ fanboys will migrate there, destroying a large source of this site's populace.
That or it will become so big it turns into a very bad source of news and information and reviews.

I think the moment we start seeing number ratings for games and movies on this site is the day I stop visiting.

I believe the site will continue to grow over time. People who are new will post without reading the rules and will therefore be hated, until eventually there are so many new members the mods can't control them and they give up. After that, the whole site turns in to a competition to see who can write "ZOMG FIRST!!1" in every goddamn thread, and Escapist veterans aimlessly wander the internet is search of something new in a scene somewhat reminiscent of the trail of tears.

Just looked at your join date and realized you haven't lived through a March on the Escapist yet...

You'll find out.

Shit...those are famous last words. Why does this always happen to me *screams*
OT: I think that YZ really helps, I really only joined because of him (my friend showed me his show), but then discovered all this. So he is as good as bad I suppose.
