Hey there stranger, lost your way? You have? Ha, unsurprising. It's dark out there, too damn dark. Cold too, I reckon. Yeah, you look freezin', hungry and tired. That's to be expected. You've had a long journey. Come sit by the fire, have a bite. I got meat cooking, rabbit to be precise. Fresh caught. I only got two rules in me camp; the first is no violence. You get violent, I'll send you out into the dark. Yep, a dark soul deserves to be in the dark. The second is that you gotta tell a story. Any story; about yerself, about others you know, about the myths of yer land. I don't care as long as it's a story. Want some stew? 'Course you do! Eat that up whilst we wait fer the others. Yeah, I said "others". There're always others, that's why I'm here; to help the ones who have lost their way. It won't be long, I reckon. Beautiful sky, ain't it? Yep, It's good to be on the wayside...

****

Hello fellow Role-Players. I've got a few years RPing on this site under my belt and thought it was about time to try my hand at GMing. I'd never considered it before because I didn't really have any ideas that I truly loved. Now, though, I have found an idea that I am determined to see through to the end (assuming that other people are interested too.) So here we...an interest thread for my RP, On The Wayside

For this RP I will be accepting FIVE other players...although that number could be increased if there are some truly exceptional sheets. A small group is easier to work with for the concept I have in mind though.

Set within a nondescript fantasy world, a group of humans - from all walks of life - sit around a campfire, telling stories. The stories are a mix of personal and second-hand experience, myths, legend and simple conjecture. As the night wears on, bonds form, disagreements flare, and feuds are created. These people are all combat-efficient in one form or another; warriors, mages, assassins, etc. They are all fighters, but there is no violence around the campfire, the host does not permit it. The only violence permitted is within the confines of a story.

The RP, I guess, will take a form similar to that of The Canterbury Tales [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canterbury_tales], whereby there is a loose, overarching narrative (a group of people sat around a campfire) with smaller narratives within. Each player creates a fantasy-style character (humans-only for plot purposes) and throughout the RP the campfire's host (played by the GM) picks a character each week to tell a story.

The story itself can be about practically anything within the realms of fantasy. As mentioned in the above "premise" section, the story can be specifically about the character's personal experience, a rumour they've heard or a legend that the character knows of. Once a player has been told that they are the one telling a story, they have a week (maybe two, I haven't decided yet) to write it up their character's story. It MUST be written in the first person.

The plan is for each character to tell only one story, meaning that each one should be rather long. During the time between a player being told they are writing their story and them posting it, the RP will, in effect, be inactive. A necessary evil, I'm afraid. After a story has been told, however, is when the "discussion week" will begin.

"Discussion week" begins straight after a character has told their story, and is basically where the rest of the characters have a chance to engage with the story. Amongst themselves - and with the storyteller - they discuss the themes of the story, any plots points, what they liked/disliked and ask the storyteller any questions. The interesting part (I hope) comes from the fact that all of the discussion is from the perspective of each player's character. I would hope for spiritual, moral and intellectual disagreement between characters. But also bonds to be formed if there are characters similar with similar ideals.

Basically, We'd go round getting all the characters to tell a story and then have a week (real-time) discussing - in character - the merits and shortcomings of each one until we've effectively gone around the whole circle... If you're worried about reasons of why they're at the campfire...well, that's just a plot point that wouldn't be revealed until the end.

So yeah, that's my idea. It's not dissimilar to The Ratings War [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/540.316635-The-Ratings-War-VI-Aces-High-Closed-Begins-October-26]...in fact it's quite similar... The difference between this, is that it is not a competition; there are no official judges but you do you get to critique the other players from the comfort of a fictional character that may or may not share your views on a particular story lol.

Also, in terms of a predefined world... There isn't one. I'm giving you free reign to decide where you character hails from, areas they know of etc.. It's not going to be massively important where they come from except maybe in regards to the stories they tell. The places mentioned in the sheets that I accept will be the ones that we'll work with.

Standard RP rules apply, I guess.

No god-moding, Mary Sues, trenchoating etc. Have fun but respect other players.

Note that I WILL NOT tolerate crappy grammar and spelling. The odd mistake here and there isn't a problem but loads of them becomes a problem. It doesn't matter how good the idea behind your post is, poor writing can make it difficult to read and, quite frankly, is just brain-screamingly annoying. I won't completely disregard you if the writing is crap, but you'd have to be willing to take the criticism and LEARN from what I tell you to improve.

This RP will need punctuality too, I think. If I tell you that you have a week to submit a story then you have a week. If, by any chance, you need an extension, I'm fine with that as long as you give me ample warning.

As I've stated in the "premise" section above, there is no violence within the campfire. Stories can have as much violence as you like (although I'd definitely prefer substance over gratuitous violence lol) and I don't care about threats but any violence against another character outside of the confines of a story, and your character will be forced to leave the safety of the firelight and wander the darkness, alone, with no knowledge of how to get home. You have been warned.

Um...I think that's all.

If anybody needs anything clarified or just has some general questions about the RP, don't be afraid to ask. Also, I'd definitely appreciate people suggesting improvements for the RP if they have any. It's going to be you guys who run the show most of the time, after all....

EDIT: Ok, a very good friend of mine has told me that he "wants in". I know he's good for it and I trust he'll deliver some decent writing So I'm allowing an extra space for his character. That means there will be SIX players. Seven if you include my character. I am keeping the number of free spaces at FIVE though just...well, just because.

EDIT2: Just wanted to throw out a bit of info that I seem to have overlooked. I'm expecting the stories themselves to be kinda long (at least a couple of thousand words) but posts during the "discussion" parts of the RP should ideally be no longer than a couple of paragraphs. To allow the RP to flow better during these sections, quick and snappy posts that only refer to one or two other characters would be preferred. Long posts that have multiple complex questions or that refer to loads of characters can be difficult to respond to. So basically, for the "discussion" sections, I'd much rather have multiple, smaller posts from people rather than one long complex post. Remember, it's a discussion/debate between people. Everyone needs a chance to respond.

EDIT3: I've realised something important that I seem to have overlooked: Races. Now, obviously I want all player characters to be human, but I was unsure whether or not to allow for other races to exist within the world. I think I'm going to stick with a somewhat humans-only world but reference of other races (elves, dwarves, orcs etc) can definitely be made in a speculative fashion by the characters. You can refer to them within a tale of myths and legend or even claim outright that your character has met other races - although the latter will likley provide arguments amongst the characters (a good thing, in my mind lol).

Reserved for other info and character sheet stuff.

Name: (This includes any aliases or nicknames the character goes by. Remember, it's a set in a fantasy world so a little creativity in the name department would be nice.)

Sex: (Self-explanatory)

Age: (18 or above please.)

Appearance: (general looks, height, build, etc. followed by clothing)

Class/Job: (Can be anything you like as long as it's within the realms of fantasy. I'm happy to accept monarchs, too, if that's the kind of character you want to roll with.)

Weapons and Gear: (Self-explanatory)

Magic (If applicable): (I'll allow free-reign with magic as long as it doesn't make your character over-powered. Just think standard fantasy magics, I guess. I will allow warrior-types some form of magic as long as it's not too powerful. After all, if you spend so much time training with a weapon then you're going to have a lot less time training with magic, thus not learning as many spells/not being as strong. Don't feel that you have to have magic though!)

Personality: (This is a purely character-driven RP so characters with strong and distinctive personalities are essential for me. What makes them tick, a few likes and dislikes, fears etc.)

Biography: ( Written in the FIRST person. includes some details the character's past; what they do, perhaps some specific experiences in life that have helped shape them, and just general information about the character. NOTE: Do not outline how the character arrived at the campfire. For all intents and purposes, the character doesn't really remember.)

Finally, along with the character sheet, I'd like all applicants to submit a fairly brief (no longer than 1000 words) extract titled "What the History Books Say". This is to be written in the THIRD person and effectively give me an insight into the player's writing ability/style. Similar to the biography, I guess, this extract will outline some key moments of the character's life but from the objective viewpoint of a historian. For example, if your character is a brutish tyrant who spent his life raping and pillaging, then the extract is not likely to be particularly favourable. On the other side of the spectrum, a heroic character will be lauded for their actions. This extract will be one of the most important factors when I'm deciding who to include in the RP so make certain it's well-written and, above all else, interesting.

EDIT: I just need to make a clarification about the "What the History Books Say" section of the character sheet. It's not an account of their whole life. No mention of the campfire - or afterwards - should be made. It should include key moments in the character's life, and things that shaped them as a person. But in the third person, from an objective viewpoint...

Name: The Host

Sex; Male

Age: Unknown. He looks pretty old though; somewhere between 60 and 70 years old.

Appearance: The Host has a hard, weathered face from spending so long out in the wilderness. His lightly tanned face has the look of old leather, with creases covering it. Dark green eyes shine knowingly above a huge grey beard that fans across his chest, stained yellow at the mouth from decades of pipe-smoke. His long hair is silvery grey and falls down below his shoulders, loosely tied at the back of his neck with a leather cord.

The Host wears forest coloured - various green and browns with some black - breeches and a loose-fitting shirt of the same colours. His soft, animal hide boots are a light tan colour.

Class/Job: Forest Hunter/Guide

Weapons and Gear: The Host carries a longbow and a quiver of various different arrows - tips of iron, flint, bone and a few steel. At his waist is a wickedly sharp hunting knife with a blade two hand-spans long. He also has a water canteen strapped to his belt alongside a small pack that contains his smoking tin and fire-lighting equipment.

In The Host's camp, there is a thin roll mat and threadbare blanket, a few copper pots and an earthenware bowl. Roasting on a spit above the fire, are two rabbits. There are also various plucked game fowl hanging from the a nearby tree.

Magic (If applicable): The Host does not have any magical abilities.

Personality: The Host is friendly and wise, more than happy to share his campfire and knowledge with people he doesn't know. He is a fair man who always listens to other sides of an argument, and applauds anyone who can argue their case coherently. That said, The Host is not an intelligent man in the traditional sense. Although he can barely read or write, and doesn't know (or, indeed, care) much about the politics of the land, The Host knows the wilderness better than anyone else. He knows where to find rare plants and herbs, and can find the best places for hunting any type of animal. Within the forests, The Host is an expert, but when he finds himself inside a city, he becomes uncertain.

The Host's home is the wilderness and, in that he is confidant. Around large groups of people though (especially settlements) he is frightened and often confused, unable to easily understand the workings of everyday life in a town or city.

Biography: I remember taking a group through Lantern Pass. All these damned noble-types wanting the quick way past the mountains despite my protestations. "We're paying you good money," one of them had said, "and we want you to take us the quickest route." They'd hired me because I was the expert. Well, they didn't want my expert advice...they wanted the quick route.

Lantern Pass is dark. Dark and dangerous, especially with a load of almighty nobles who refuse to listen to reason. Four days we spent travelling that Pass. By the time we got out two pack horses were dead, taken by wolves or....something. I managed to get all the people out alive, though. There were a few injuries; falling rocks, snake bites. But everyone came out alive. They never thanked me, just gave me the gold with haunted looks in their eyes and accusations on their lips. I shrugged and made my way back across the mountains, avoiding the Pass. Apparently, I'm the only one ever to lead a group through Lantern Pass and not lose a single person. Two pack horses though? That's bad enough... I remember that time as if it were yesterday.

What I don't remember is my childhood. I don't really recall that at all. Hunting in the woods with my Pa...not much else really. All I remember is that I grew up not liking to settle anywhere; I like to keep moving so's no one can find me easily. "Don't look for him." they say, "He'll look for you." I like that, gives me a mysterious quality. I'm like a divine guardian, no? If someone in the wild needs help, I'll be there to get them out of it. Of course, that's not always the case. I've had my share of disasters.

But that's a whole 'nother story.

Hello Tips, I'd like to express interest in this RP, I need time to think through my ideas and find something to settle on but I reckon I could bring something good to the table camp-fire! The format should fit my posting habits well...

Edit: Got a sheet in the works now, hopefully will be ready by Thursday, damn this RP is becoming popular, even the spam-bots are trying to join! (See post #20)

Make it happen, Staika. Incidentally, sorry again about lunching out on Shadows of the Universe, I didn't have the time to commit. I've got a little more now but I decided to grab this idea while I had the chance.

This really look fun and i already think I've a good idea for a creation story to start us off.

To be honest I'm not sure if I'm as good as I need to be but I'd love the chance to prove I am.

Are you accepting reserves because if you are I?d love to put one in?

Might I make a suggestion of letting people PM you stories in advanced?
This way you could exert more quality control it would give us all something to do in the dead weak and if someone's away you could post it for them. It could increase the speed of the rp and I?m sure there?d be other benefits.

Thoughts?
Not thought about reserves to be honest, but I'm not planning on starting for at least a week or two so that people have time to write up decent sheets. Just get a sheet in and I'll decide. I'll say now though that you need to improve a lot from what I've seen in your writing from other RPs. I'm not shooting you down, just warning you. Make sure you take time to perfect it, check for grammatical/spelling errors etc.

I'm not giving a pre-defined order so no one will know when their story is going to be needed, which would mean that everyone would need to get a story done before the RP gets going... Not good. Also, your character's story may draw upon similar or opposing themes to someone else's so waiting until you've heard other stories could benefit the flow of the RP. It's how The Canterbury Tales worked (The Miller's Tale and The Knight's Tale are a prime example), and I'd like to keep it in that way.

I'd rather not post another player's story in their absence because they'd need to be present in order discuss their story with the others/defend it.

So yeah, submit and sheet and we'll see. = D

I'm very tempted to throw my hand in. This strikes me as a version of the ratings war with less emphasis on character driven action and more emphasis on thematic and moralistic motifs. If it has a similar work load as the ratings war (a week of work once or twice a month, occasional banter between those dates) you'll probably see me submit a sheet.

This sounds incredibly interesting. While I am doubtful of my current ability to take part, I will definitely be sure to keep an eye on this.

I am interested and wondering if I will be up to the task of writing up a sheet for a character with more depth than a kiddie pool, let alone writing up an entire compelling story within a week...I will see if I can get a sheet up soon. ^^

I'm still undecided on how long to give for the story-writing...BUT, I'm leaning ever closer to 2 weeks. It seems a little harsh to expect something really good within a week... To be honest, I'm open to suggestions regarding how long people would prefer for both the story-writing and the accompanying "discussion" section.

By all means, though, write up a sheet. I like Irish. = D

I've made yet another EDIT to the OP. It's kind of important and I'm still not entirely hot on the idea so I thought I'd post it separately down here as well, so that people who have already read the OP don't miss it:

"EDIT3: I've realised something important that I seem to have overlooked: Races. You can refer to them within a tale of myths and legend or even claimoutright that your character has met other races - although the latter will likely provide arguments amongst the characters (a good thing, in my mind lol)."

I'll be thinking this over during the next few days and probably still won't come to a satisfying conclusion. If any of you have an opinion on this matter then PM (just so we don't clutter the thread up too much) and we can talk. I may end up revising this idea once I've accepted all the players and discussed the necessary details of the RP.

Here is what I would say is a 'first draft' of my character idea:

Name: Old Man Claudio
Sex: Male

Age: He claims to be a few centuries old.

Appearance: Claudio looks considerably younger than he claims to be, his appearance is that of a healthy man in his mid fifties. Crew cut grey hair tops an otherwise cleanly shaven head. His face is lightly scarred all over, as if lightly burned. The scarring is so subtle that in low lit conditions it is nearly unnoticeable.

He is adorned in huge tan brown robes, not dissimilar to those worn by the priests of Northern Ridge. The robes are held tight to his stomach by an evidently quality made leather belt, fastened by a large, silver, rectangular belt buckle.

Class/Job: Claudio describes himself as a wanderer or a watcher, though he also acknowledges his origins as a priest, philosopher and theological scholar. At one point in his life, he admits, he saw himself as a soldier, but that is a story in itself.

Weapons and Gear: A long wooden staff, approximately 7 feet in length, with a small unlit and rather ornate lantern fastened to the top end by a short metal chain.

Magic (If applicable): He does not openly identify as a magic user, though throughout his many stories he describes his participation in events which would simply be impossible to any mortal man without access to the arcane or spiritual energies that run throughout these lands.

Personality: Though at first Claudio appears to carry an air of stoicism, it soon becomes clear upon engaging in discussion with the aging wanderer that he has very strong opinions on the nature of the world around him. His primary interest lies in the very nature of what it is to be human living in a world that many claim to have been separated from the Lords of Creation. Although he is happy to listen to other people explain their own life philosophy, Claudio will quite harshly object to a point he doesn?t agree with. As far as he is concerned, his age gives him a massive benefit over the adventurers and sell-swords he often comes across on the road when it comes to discussion. He has published select works within the academic circles of the larger cities, but enjoys to travel to the smaller towns to reach out and engage with what he calls ?valuable, if not misguided life experience.?

Biography: Many people don?t believe the tales Claudio spins about his earlier life, and even fewer believe the tales about his later life. The stories don?t seem so infeasible at first; Claudio was once a priest of the Lords, much like his father, and his father?s father before him. A preacher and a holy man, he spent much of his early life, right up into adulthood, in his home town upon the Northern Ridge. He took part in the military campaigns of the Nordrin armies, serving as chaplain to a Storm Legion during The Great Divide. The complication of such a narrative comes only when you consult the history books of the north; The Great Divide occurred over 150 years ago.

The tales of Claudio?s later life require a lot more explanation. After the war Claudio came back a ?man?, and was allowed to take a wife, which he did. But Claudio?s marriage didn?t last. His wife ran away with another member of his legion. It was at this point that he questioned his faith; if he had done as asked of him, fought in the name of the Lords to destroy those who stood against his people, why would he be punished? His wife and her new lover inherited vast sums of money, a keep, land and serfs from her parents, while Claudio?s monastery fell upon hard times. It was with permission from his elders that Claudio set out upon what he called his ?Journey?. At the time he was unsure of what he was doing, or where he was going. But as Claudio tells it, a century and a half later, he had found what he was looking for. But that my friends, is his story to tell.

?What the History Books Say?
Old Man Claudio is known among scholarly circles of the more densely populated cities to the east. Though some of his academic work is respected, his claim to prolonged life is usually laughed at as nothing but literary device used to draw attention to his theories.
Many historians have found records of a Claudio Anarelicus, a young chaplain of one of the Storm Legions of the north. Several have disputed, even with Claudio in person, that it is impossible for him to actually be the same man. The usual argument centres around Old Man Claudio?s reluctance to adopt such a surname.

What little is known of Claudio Anarelicus corroborates Old Man Claudio?s stories of his early life. He indeed came from a long line of priests, and he also married upon returning home from the war. But again, such facts mean nothing to the scholars of Daramasuc, who have argued that Old Man Claudio?s education is the key to unravelling his ?lies?. As Leopald Venodeer once said in his memoirs ?Confessions of a Justified Historian?, ?One such as this boastful Claudio character is intelligent enough to construct a fabricated identity from the bits and pieces of narrative he comes across in the Great library of Daramasuc. What truly puts the fear into me is that many a peasant will listen to his intangible and often ludicrous fictions.?

I know I said I was busy and might not have time - but I'ma make time, because I honestly can not tell you how much I like the premise of this RP!

Edit: Sheet - Draft one.

Name: Marcus

Sex: Male

Age: 27

Appearance: Marcus is a well built man, in his late twenties and stands at 5"10. He carries the look of a well traveled person, heavily tanned and a creased forehead. His shoulders are broad and his arms are lightly toned. He has a light sprinkiling of stubble and a smooth, nearly bald head with bright blue eye?s. He wears a simple olive drab tunic, with leather trousers. He wears heavy leather boots and across his chest lays a simple leather breast plate. Bracers adorn his wrists and tanned gloves cover his hands.

Class/Job: Marcus is a simple wanderer, going from town to town doing odds and ends, he?s cut wood, smelted swords, repaired houses and dealt with animals.

Weapons and Gear: On his hip he carries a simple Steel broadsword, with an ornate design of a dragon along the hilt. Slung across his back, a large round sheild sits snugly, all his supplies attached to the inside of it. A small dagger is concealed within his boots.

Magic (If applicable): A very weak healing ability. Hovering his hand over a minor injury will steam blood flow and if given time, reseal the skin. Although useful, it will not help if a wound is deep or too large.

Personality: Marcus is a proud man. This does not mean he treats all with respect however, you must first EARN his respect. He will fight for the poor and defend the weak, if he deems them worthy. His morals are mixed at best. He believes that helping those who do not deserve it, to be tampering with natural selection and will stand by and watch men, women and children die. Those who earn his respect, however, he will fight with all his strength for. Whilst religion is apparent within the land he walks, he takes a direct stanse of non-believing and will openly mock those who follow any deity.

Biography: The name?s Marcus and I?m an explorer. Lookabout-man. Wanderer. Got lots of names for folks like me, but to put it plain I?m just a fella walking the world and seeing all it?s got to give. I?ve seen a lot in my wanderings, met a lot of folks ? good and bad ? in all corners of this land. So let me tell you what I seen.

When I was a kid, I grew up in a little village. Real quiet like, everyone knew everyone and people were happy. Times were good. Until Dad got ill, some plague or somethin?, Mother died in child birth, so I was alone. Ripe age of Sixteen I left that place. Took my Dad?s sword ? You wouldn?t believe the stories he used to tell about that thing. Sigurd he called it, funny name if you ask me, but with that and his sheild I set off. Things were tough. Met a lot of folk on my travels, not all helpful.

Well, I wandered through villages for a few years, stealing food and selling wares when I had ?em, but after a while and a bout of near starvation I decided to settle and work. Didn?t suit me. Few seasons passed and I was off again. Wandering the land and doing odds and ends here. Suited me just fine. Heard a lot of talk, and seen a lot of sights and fought a lot of men, killed a few too. One thing I learnt, you ain?t given nothin?. You gotta earn it. That?s my motto atleast.

What the History Books Say: Marcus wandered the land for many years. Working, trading and just exploring. They say he was a good man. Some might disagree, but no one knows for sure. He was a quiet man. Didn?t say much, good listener though. He?d sit and listen to stories like a kid at dinner.
They say he changed at somepoint. Used to be real nice, something hit him hard. A few people have said it was Hark?s bay. Anyone who?s anyone know?s that what happened there, would change any man.

Harks bay was an idealic place, quiet harbour town ? that Salt air taste hanging around and the sounds of gulls waiting for the fishermen to bring in the next catch. Not very interested in relgion or anything else for that matter. Trade and fish and good drink was their thing. They say one of the nobles there offended a religious fanatic. One of those hooded cloaked men, the ones who devote themselves to some other being. Well, they didn?t take well at that. Came down on the town with a mob. Burned that place up good. The few who knew Marcus said he was there. He saw the town burn. People butchered. Children murdered. He only just got out himself. Something changed in him that day. He never spoke of it, but you can tell it had done something to his head.

After that, not much was heard of from him. He stopped going to his usual traders. Some say he went for revenge. Some say he just settled down somewhere quiet. Others have spoke of a quiet man, passing through back villages. Searching for something, talking to the story tellers in the dark corners of inns and taverns.

This looks very, very interesting... I'll toss my hat in, what the hell:

Name: Jarvis Kurthand/Jarvia Kurthand

Sex: Male, but sometimes masquerades as a woman when need be, and looks feminine enough to pull it off.

Age: 27

Appearance: With a rather soft face and girlish features, Jarvis can easily make himself to appear as a woman. He has dark green eyes, long eyelashes, a slim build, soft skin, long, blond hair, longer legs than torso, and a stature of only 5'9" help him appear as both genders when need be.

Class/Job: Thief and assassins, but also a member of high-society when he pretends to be "Jarvia."

Weapons and Gear: A small dagger, various non-lethal poisons, a container of cobra venom meant for lethal kills, darts and a blowgun, several changes of clothes, both male and female.

Personality: Conniving, stealthy, and willing to steal from anyone for any reason. He's sociable when he has to be, but prefers to work alone. This doesn't mean he's shy or reserved, though. He uses every opportunity he can to boast about the kills he's done, the things he's stolen, and the powerful men who've undressed him, only to find yet another thing he's quite proud of hidden beneath his dress.

Biography:

You want me to say who I am? Well, I'm Jarvis Kurthand, legendary thief, the perfect assassin, and a perfectly serviceable cross-dresser, should you need one. I've stolen the crown jewels of the Elves, killed the king of the Barbarians to the North with just a single arrow, and slept with more women-and men-then even the Immortal Rock Giants can count. It all started when I was a boy growing up in the seaport town of... well, I'm not sure, really. You lose track of what town you were born in when you're wanted in as many as I am. But, at any rate, it all started when I was growing up and was teased for looking "too girly". Well, we say who got the last laugh of them when I disguised myself as the biggest of my tormentors girlfriend, stole his grandfather's knife, and poisoned his pet rat in the matter of ten minutes. Ever since then I've discovered how great this whole crime business is, as well as how profitable pretending to be a woman is, and started being able to get what I want when I want it.

The game changed, though, when I met that wizard in the High Mountains. Dressed as a girl no older than fourteen, trying to avoid capture or suspicion, but here comes this old man with his magic staff, tried to get me to come back to some tower with him. Well, he didn't wake up again, but I did find on him one of the strangest oddities I've ever seen: a self replenishing bottle of cobra venom. I've kept the wonderful little toy with me for as long as I can remember, and, now, I ended up here, around this campfire somehow.

What the History Books Say:

WANTED: DERANGED THIEF. MALE, LONG HAIR, POSSIBLY DRESSED AS A WOMAN. IS CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS

This vile scum, a thief about as tall as he is smart, has left a track a mile long of assassination, regicide, grand theft, and every other crime you can think of. He was last seen escaping Newport and was being followed by twenty town guards, the captain of the guards, two horsemen, and what some believe to be a sandworm as he fled into the Desert of Endless Nights. Some believe him dead, but the guards pursuing him have not sent any word back, so be on the look out for him.

HUMAN INTEREST: Jarvia Kurthand was recently spotted with the captain of Frontfort's guard. Some think they might be dating, but our reporters could only get Jarvia to comment, and she only said that her and the guard have a "special relationship." Are they just god friends, or is there more to these two than what there seems to be? We'll find out later this week here at the Weekly Frontfort Report. This has been Themy Longhorn.
EDIT: Changed from watch to knife

Name: Jolak Laneim

Sex: Male

Age: 29

Appearance: Jolak stands at 6'2" (188 CM) and weighs around 200 lbs. He has a tall athletic build and has a lot of lean muscle that is better suited to climbing then fighting. He has medium length brown hair and a beard which he keeps at a good length. He wears a light brown light leather armor which allows him to move around easily.

Class/Job: Treasure Hunter and a former scout

Weapons and Gear: Jolak's most prized possession is his sword which he found during one of his treasure hunting runs. The blade has an intricate wavy design and has a length that is in between a short blade and a regular sword. The hilt has and the guard are connected by a good sized ruby. Jolak also despite being right handed carries the sword on his right side because he likes keeping it closer to his fighting hand and it's small enough to allow him to draw and fight with it backwards for a short time. He also calls the sword "Silver Wind" because the design on the blade sort of looks like wind.

Jolak also carries 5 throwing knifes in a small pack that he keeps connected to his right calf and he is decent at throwing them. He also carries a lock pick and a grappling hook in his pack.

Magic (If applicable): Jolak does not know magic.

Personality: Jolak is a show off by nature and just loves to tell people stories of his various adventures. He is also a very calm individual and very rarely loses his cool which is a must when treasure hunting. Jolak also has a interest in history and mythology and will listen to those type of stories very closely. He does that half because he likes to learn and half because sometimes the stories have clues which can lead to treasure. While he may like to boast about his past adventures he is very closed lipped about leads that he is searching for currently or in the process of finding. He does this because he does not want anyone to steal the glory of finding it first.

Biography: My name is Jolak Laneim and I was born in a small village where my father was the leader of our village. My father was one of those people that always wanted to be noticed by everyone around him and would do stupid things all the time to get noticed. He was a strong fighter so he would mostly go out and kill some random big creature he found and would bring back it's head to put on display. He did this for as long as I can remember and each time he would go for the bigger targets so people would notice every time he brought back a head.

He was made the leader of the village when I was around 12 years old. The village did it half because he was our best warrior and half because he wouldn't shut the hell up about it. I honestly think the only reason he wanted that job was only for the title because he was a terrible leader but we never really got into any trouble with anyone so the job was really for status only. As you can probably tell most of my memories of my childhood are of my father because he always kept things interesting. He also taught me how to fight holding a sword backwards which throws a lot of people off when I do that.

When I was 16 my dad went out for his annual hunt but after a week he never came back. When we went out to search for him we never found anything, we never found a body or a trail that could lead us to him. You know that was a very sad moment in my life but I could never cry or get depressed about it. I guess it's mostly because I know he died doing what he loved to do and that if he had to die he'd prefer to die doing something he loved to do, knowing that about my father helped me get through the tough times after he died.

After two years staying in the village I got bored, my father was the only thing that made the village interesting and once he died I guess I just had nothing left to keep me in the village besides my mother. I guess my mother saw how I was unhappy in the village without my father and she suggested I should go out and explore the world. While that was what I secretly wanted to do I found it harder to actually do once I was allowed to do it. My mom literally had to kick me out of the house before I would start my journey and looking back on it I'm kind of glad she did.

Over the next few years I traveled around and I became quite familiar with the layout of the land, so much so that some armies started to hire me as a scout. They payed me high wages to literally just walk around and tell them the layout of the land and where their enemies were located. It was a very easy job to do and I would often play both sides and use that as an excuse to get in as close as I could to one of the groups camps. Funny thing is that both sides knew of this but couldn't ever find proof since the spies they sent to spy on me could never keep up.

This continued for awhile until one day I found some abandoned ruins of a past empire. Curious I went inside and started to explore the ruins and I was astonished by what I found. The traps were still active and I was almost killed more times I could count when I was exploring the ruins. And you know what, when I was exploring the ruins I had never felt so .............. Excited to be doing something. It was a thrill avoiding all those traps and it took all my skill to get to the end.

What I found at the end was my sword Silver Wind and I was just taken in by the blade. That one blade was worth more to me then all the money I could ever make and once I exited the ruins I started to reflect on the experiences in the ruins and how my dad had acted when he was hunting something big. At that moment I knew for a fact that I had found something that gave me joy in my life just like my dad had found his. And here I am five years later still loving every moment of it.

What the history books say: Jolak one day suddenly appeared out of nowhere and became a very well known scout seemingly over night. He first took a scouting job for the Norshore army after they were looking for someone to volunteer to scout out the much larger Bellham army. They found jolak after they discovered him walking through the forest with ease, one of the Norshore officers offered him a job to scout out the Bellham camp. Jolak accepted after they told him how much they would pay him and he returned a few days later with a map of where the Bellham army camp was and how many soldiers they had. The information was spot on and the Norshore army was able to defeat the much larger Bellham army in a battle that shocked the land.

After that battle Jolak became very well known to the different armies who would try very hard to recruit him. Jolak started to take the jobs without ever aligning himself to one particular army. It was also speculated that jolak would take jobs from two armies at the same time and would play both sides using this to get the information he needed without having to do that much. There were multiple attempts to try and find out if he was playing both sides but all the spies that were sent after him either mysteriously disappeared or just couldn't keep up with him.

One day he just fell off the face of the earth and no one knew what happened to him. It is speculated that he might have been killed by a creature of some sort but there are still whispers that he appears at random towns carrying very rare and valuable items which he sells.
