razer was a fucking beast. i got so mad when tornado won a final after installing a frame to stop razer reaching it, but when razer tried pushing it into the pit it was impossible because it didn't fit. the judges ruled in tornados favor... fucking bullshit.

and yes, it was awesome and i would so watch it again!

I'm having such a nostalgia-high from this thread. Like, seriously.

Hypno-Disc, ************. I remember when that thing just wrecked house - was freaking awesome.
I remember being so gutted when Hypno-Disc lost to Chaos 2 in the finals. It was seriously awesome.

Yeah I remember Robot Wars. Despite it dissapearance, they still hold exhibation matches in the MCM Expo (well in Manchester MCM).
I find it somewhat ironic that during its hay day, there was one guy (I get the Robot Wars magazine) that used to protest against it and it look like he finally won in the end.

Know what? I remember the first series when Jeremy Clarkson (why on earth...) presented it.

One of the first robots to run the gauntlet was this silver cone with a plastic Elvis head. I seem to remember that Sgt. Bash melted it.

Mmmmmm, Robot Wars.

Now that is a blast from the past.

Robots that the contestant's have built, the house robots, the cool traps... the destruction.

What was that big robot with the mean lance called?

I would love to see that series again.

Now pardon me, I must wipe the drool from my face.

i actually went to see it once when i was only 5 (year 2000) and had a blast, i laughed at JPs commentary, cheered on the robots and just generally had a whale of a time. my all time heroes were the plunderbirds, though:

I loved that show, the house robots are still some of my favourite robot designs ever. Razer was so elegant and powerful, Nemesis and it's flammable accessories and was the driver of Chaos 2 a guy or girl?
I preferred the earlier version, with the gauntlets and such, when it was just about the killing I got bored, and the brits seemed to put more effort into their machines, the versions from other countries were decidedly lame.

Dead Metal was the best House Robot. Wickedly fast, and a punishing saw when he catches you.

Didn't like Mr Psycho though, he just looked out of place.

Sir Killalot and the 3 other house robots were my favorite.

As well as Hypnodisc... now that was a murder machine to watch out for.

I vaguely remember there being one called "99" because it cost £99 to make. It wasnt the best robot but I liked it because it was the underdog and someone hadnt invested thousands like razor or chaos 2. I remember behemoth and panic attack and wheely big cheese but not much else

Sgt bash was the best house robot he had a fucking flamethrower

I remember an episode where they pitted four robots against each other, the timer counted down, deadly weapons spun up and the timer hit zero and! ... All four turned against the house robots and kicked them around the court like low quality footballs! CHAOS!

Couldn't find it much on TV, otherwise I might have. I spent much more time with its American 'cousin', Battlebots, but they both seem fairly similar (Robot Wars has flamethrowers and looks to allow wilder designs in general, though not as well-lit).

My favourite Battlebots I remember are T-Minus, Hazard, Biohazard, Nightmare, and Complete Control. My least favourite is Buddy Lee Don't Play in the Streets. Check out its matches on Youtube to learn why.

Regardless, both were fun, especially the Battle Royales, and I wish one or the other would come back to television.

This. In America we had Battlebots, and it was a fun little show. I still scream "It's Robot Fighting Time!" when I'm using Sweet Tooth's special in Twisted Metal.

Ya know what always pissed me off? There were no Bipedal humanoid robots. I understand that would've been impossible, but theres only so many "RC Cars With Weapons" I can take.

Walking is very complicated. Most garage techies don't have the time or the resources to make a walking bipedal robot, and the few I remember in Battlebots who did walk didn't fare well at all due to poor mobility and durability- damage just one leg and you lose the match, whereas I've seen many matches where wheeled bots won with one wheel left functioning. IIRC Dr. Inferno was probably the closest one to bipedal, having moveable arms (one with a buzzsaw), a head and four wheels under a defensive skirt.

There is a new series I followed for a bit that did those, Robot Combat League, but the robots there were all built by the show's professional engineers instead of the drivers, thus removing all the fun of designing your own bot. It was more like the 'teleboxing' seen in Real Steel and I lost interest after a few episodes.

i know, i think i heard that the producers are planning on shelving it because of such poor reviews, ratings and viewing figures. the show really is a load of shite, barely any point to it at all.

I know but how cool would it be to have a humanoid robot, and it's going against this RC car and it just grabs the fucking thing and throws it against the wall.

Yes, I saw that. Chris Jericho was the host.

It was okay, but it's clearly scripted. It's like watching a Disney Land attraction.
