Yeah, I remember the queens nose and the demon headmaster. Nobody I knew watched them. As far as I remember they were really boring, which is why I was busy playing video games LIKE A TRUE ESCAPIST.

Oh man, I haven't thought about Demon Headmaster and the Queens Nose for years.
Demon Headmaster scared the crap out of me, it was awesome.
The Queens Nose started off really great, or maybe it was just because i was a little kid back then, but it ended up really really crap.
Two things I do miss are SMTV Live and Live and Kicking. I pity the young children now with their crappy saturday morning TV.

I remember that from somewhere. Can't say I saw it a lot though. Although thanks to you, my nostalgic senses are all worked up. Your clip reminded me of Action Man. (If I remember correctly back then he was like the manly macho Barbie doll wit an actin filled show)

I'm going to break away from those two examples because I just thought of one of my FAVOURITE cartoons when I was younger. Funnybones, anyone?
I never liked that because the buildings looked too abstract and for some reason I find that really disturbing...

Also, if you weren't the right age (I'd guess you'd have to be over 18 to have watched these the first time round), what did you watch at primary school that stuck with you?
Well...You probably won't remember my Primary School days...(74-77), but I'll see what I can get from yours.

Demon Headmaster was on CBBC (with Zoe Ball in the Broom Cupboard?) twice weekly in 96, and there were three series. It was based on a novel which you can still get.

The Queen's Nose was again adapted from novels, this time by Dick King Smith...who did the original of Babe and lots of others. This was CBBC around 95-98.

Through the Dragon's Eye & Spywatch were part of Look and Read (Do they still have Wordy?) which has always done some fantastic kids drama, even back to my age. (Jeez...wiki says '67)
Most of them are very famous for their quirky cartoons on spelling.
(American's: Our equivalent of Sesame Street)

But yeah, here's some tasters:

And something more my age...

The Demon Headmaster was pretty intense. It was like China but a school. If it wasn't for children, probably to scare them into behaving, I wouldn't have been surprised if the kids where forced into hard labour or beaten.

The Queens Nose was... interesting at times. Most wishes where for good and such, and the rare evil ones always turned out wrong for the person casting them. The plot usually consisted of hoarding the 50p or someone losing it. I'd have been maniacal if I had that 50p.

Other British TV I remember was Bernard's watch. That guy was an ass. He used his magical watch that could freeze time to take thorns out of peoples fingers. The fuck? I'd have used it to steal, embarrass people, hurt, exploit and all other forms of nasty.

I only remember the Demon Headmaster and Queen's Nose from that list; God they were brilliant. I used to love SM:TV live with Ant and Dec, too. I also liked game shows like Get Your Own Back.

In my opinion the 90's was the peak of kids' TV in Britain. Nowadays it's flooded with shoddy shows and American programs like iCarly - I was flicking through the TV once and encountered it - it's probably one of the most annoying things I've ever watched.

Well done fellow Escapists, you've made a 21 year old man feel very, very old indeed.

I remember ALL of these shows.

Absolute Jungle Run. Or anything from CITV (Mad For It and Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids were particularly fond memories).

OH. SMTV Live. 9am Saturdays, don't be a Jigglypuff, AWW YEAH.

...I just cried a little. Internally.

You know... "For anyone not British" doesn't automatically mean American, man.

How about the Irish people? You know, the ones to the left of your island?

I'm not actually annoyed, just poking fun.
Anyway, most good stuff on Irish tv was from the UK when I was growing up.

The Demon Headmaster and the Queen's Nose are old favourites!!!
Oddly enough, I have vivid memories of being scared shitless by the former programme in my youth.... ah...

I also have vague memories of a kid's show called "Aquila"... or at least I think that's what it was...

Like, basic premise is a kid that lives near old Roman ruins finds what appears to be a Roman designed aircraft.... called Aquila :p

I remember them all. Anyone remember Pirates? It was about a bunch of stereotypical pirates living in a council house. Their crew included an old grandma captain, a guy in a sack, and a baby that emits green light.
Oh hell yes, the dad just wanted an ordinary life but the rest of his family were still piratey, that was a good show.

Lets see if anyone else remembers Nightmare. It was sort of like The Crystal Maze for kids. Better yet, anyone remember The Crystal Maze back when Richard O'Brian was host, with his dear "mumsy" locked in that little room haha.
