Illusion, my friend. Dictatorships can circumvent some problems via brute force, but create a whole lot more. They'd pretend that they get shit done, but it wouldn't be true.

Everything will be REALLY clean. Even clean things will be absurdly clean. And there will be people whose job will be to clean the cleaning instruments just to make sure everything is perfectly clean.

Also everything will be symmetrical and in neat and orderly rows. Making me suspect that all dystopia societies are run by RTS gamers. Which is me, hooray.

Well since everytime I hear the term Orwellian, its in resonse to the government daring to suggest that people not be allowed to spew hate speech, or that internet sites featuring illegal content should be banned. I'm gonna go ahead and say that the best part would be the lack of hate speech, child/gore/animal porn and internet trolls.

Video games are allowed, and they're all good (just no anti-governmental messages).
Either that, or all food is free.

Depends what type of dystopia.

I mean, Blade Runner had robots, which is awesome in itself, the technology presented in A Scanner Darkly was brilliant, and Soylent Green's euthanasia building looked like a marvellous way to die.

I couldn't pick just one thing about dystopia I like because it appears in so many forms. Love this thread though.

If I work hard I can eventually become a part of the inner party... I wouldn't want any kids though, they'd be terrors...

Sign me up...
If this is Orwellian though, you'd be convinced your actions were wrong before you were shot :p
Well, obviously I'd have some sort of device in the shape of a necklace that kept me from being under "the spell" as long as I make sure to wear incredibly tight spy clothing with surprisingly sexy-looking gadget belts. Then I'd fight "the man" with my band of ruthless movie characters and stereotypes.

The police are nice and don't stomp you into the dirt.
And there is enough food to go around.
Wait, that isn't dystopian? Crap.

Totally agree, the effectiveness of dictatorships is a real fallacy.

Anyway, to the topic - the number of public sector jobs would increase I guess. Since we'd all have to work or get shot. If we're talking Orwell/Huxley dystopias, there'd be some kickass vehicles out and about that would be fun.

Less bills would be nice and health care for all
Definately a resistance group and work as an "inside man"
plus there would be plenty of TV & video games. fits perfect with propoganda
