I apologise. I was too rude.
I was in a bad mood when I wrote that. And you are right about everything.

However I still think Golden Earring was too progressive to really become mainstream, outside "Moontan".
Thanks, sir! And yes, they are a pretty progressive band, maybe too much so for my tastes, as well as the tastes of the masses. It was probably a bit rash of me to simply say that they had no other good songs, so in a way, I did provoke you, by essentially picking on a band that you are a fan of. So, I'm sorry too.

Incidentally, I can't believe what a heavy conversation I'm having in a thread about "one-hit wonders"; just seems like an odd place to enter a debate and then receive and give an apology. Ah well.
Some people, like me, for instance, take music a little too seriously. I've been listening to Golden earring since... Uh... 1994? Or so. I'm what you'd call a rabid fan.

Still, it's no reason for me to go verbal berserk and insult people.

Nah, it's cool. I'd do the same thing if someone called one of my favorite bands a one-hit wonder, and I'm sure everyone else here would admit to doing the same. It's just a natural reaction, and completely understandable. All is forgiven.

Im gonna say Anberlin, Deep Purple, The Hours, Coheed and Cambria, Faith No More, Jeremih
Deep Purple?

Smoke on the water isn't their only song. And Machine head isn't really even their best album.

In Rock - Fireball - Machine head is one of the greatest album combos ever. A one hit wonder band won't release a 3CD collection some 30 years after founding the band.

[small]Or are you just trolling?[/small]
Nah, not trolling, thats not my thing. I know that Deep Purple has other sngs, but in my opinion, theyre all rubbish. I cant think of a snigle other popular song by them (feel free to correct me if Im wrong), and thats pretty much the definition of a one hit wonder: one hit, but no more.

Child in time
Space Truckin'
Demon's eye
Pictures of home
Woman from Tokyo
Speed king
Black night
Perfect strangers
Shield
Hush
Mandrake root
Kentucky woman
Highway star
No one came
Strange kind of woman
Wring that neck
Lazy
When a blind man cries

Just off the top of my head. There's more, if you look into it. All those are considered "classics" and quite popular songs. Listen to "Made in Japan", smoke on the water is by far the worst song on it.

MC Hammer - Can't Touch This

That's the one that sticks out most in my head.
the hammer man had "2 Legit 2 Quit" also. He was a 2 hit wonder.
MC Hammer also had hits with "Pray", "The Addams Family Rap", "Have You Seen Her", "Dancin' Machine", "Here Comes The Hammer" and "Yo! Sweetness!".

He also had toys, lunchboxes, colouring books and a cartoon. That's discounting several non-chart rap hits or his career as a christian rapper starting in the early 80s.

OT: Dana Lyons - Cows With Guns.

My ex-fiancee's (at the time) 8-year old sister thought that song perfectly described me.

No, I dont think I will look into it. I dont really know much about Deep Purple, so Ill take your word for it and just chalk that one up to my own ignorance. You clearly know far more about the band than I do. Thanks for your correction!

Headstrong by Trapt is a good example of a one hit wonder.

AINT NO REST FOR THE WICKED!

to be fair, cage the elephant is a fucking awful band and obviously their only good song will be the most popular.
To be fair they have made only one album, so I think it is still too soon to consider them a one hit wonder.
