To cut a long story short, I decided to see who the actor plays a security guard in The Longest Yard. It's William Fitchner. I realise he's also the bank manager in The Dark Knight. I Google more and then this Yahoo question theory pops up, and it makes A LOT of good sense:

-"His leg gets messed up and only the leg and see how the Riddler uses a cane
-The joker says "whatever doesn't kill only makes you....stranger" he gases him then and that may be a hint that the banker may become strange like the Riddler.
-An off the ball hint is the green surrounding the banker. Such as his eys, the gas, and the piece of paper on the floor behind his head.

Alot of attention was paid to a minor character so I think that he has got to be The Riddler."

Its a very strong theory, and I like it. What do you think?

Huh. That is an interesting theory. I thought that scene was rather....odd considering how much attention was given to someone you never saw again, but yes, I could believe this...

Even though I'm pretty sure Joseph Gordon Levitt has been confirmed as The Riddler.

I love this theory. I thought it was really odd to have Fichtner in such a tiny fleeting role. He's not a huge star, of course, but he's still playing a part that at first glance is well beneath him.

IMDB still has him as rumored. I hate the idea of him as The Riddler, but he was in Inception, and Nolan loves re-using actors.

I also read somewhere that Eminem was linked to play the Riddler, I'll try and find where I heard it...

But it seems that IMDB has penned Joseph Gordon Levitt to play him.

A good theory, but I'm still hoping for David Tennant.
That would ruin it.

Because every time i see him, i think of that redicoulous and cheesy doctor who series, and i dont really think Tennant is that strong an actor, but i could be wrong.
As opposed to jim carey.

IMDB has listed him as 'rumoured' but I wouldn't be surprised.
Oh, only rumored? I thought it was confirmed at one point.

Sorry, my mistake.

Jim Carrey is a good enough actor, don't blame him for the atrocious writing of Batman Forever.

The reason there was focus on him was because it was a kind of cameo, as he played one of the characters in the more recent version of Heat, a heist movie with Pacino and DeNiro.

Would like to see him as the new joker he was amazing in Prison Break, thats why i think he got so much screen time in Dark Knight but i dont think he'll be the next joker.

Everyone saying this Joseph Gordon Levitt guy would suck as The Riddler needs to remember that everyone had the same reaction to Heath Ledger playing The Joker.

I personally want Hugh Laurie, I don't know why really but I think The Riddler would be cool with an English accent.

I would love William Fitchner as the Riddler. Then with a decent role he might finally break out of the 'that guy'-department.

Hugh was never on my mind, but when I skimmed the OP and saw "his leg gets messed up and he walks with a cane" all I could suddenly think of was House.

I don't know if that would actually work, but he could certainly bring a refreshing amount of darkness to the character. My favourite Riddler by far has always been the one from Batman Beyond, and that style would certainly be something Laurie could pull off.

I'm just happy that my favourite Batman villain is getting a little screen time in Nolan's version. I just hope they don't fuck it up.

but why would he have to have the accent ? most english/australian actors can hide it, look at christian bale or hugh jackman? Hugh laurie would be a great choice.

still, my biggest question is what kind of riddler will we see? It won't an over the top campy one ala jim carrey, but how can you take a character like that seriously without him becoming a clone of the joker? Also, how can you make him a big enough threat to gotham? Any ideas?

And I for one didn't like Ledger as the Joker at all.
