Jebus, I never thought of that before. I though he was simply just a badass bystander.

The riddler is lame anyway, I want to see something about scarecrow!
Sure, they mentioned him in dark knight, but it could have been that much more awesome.

Edit: I think I should go see Batman: Beginns again. I think I fell asleep the last time I saw it :p

Personally, I always liked the idea that Michael Emmerson (Ben from Lost) would make a great Riddler. It won't happen, but hey, wishful thinking.

I really hope, that they havent written the riddler in stone. I would like to see them bypass the riddler all together.

I would really like to see a villian like Bane, or Hush.

But I do want to offer up one notion. Given Nolans impact on the history of Batman now, I think he is entitled to add his own villain to the rogues gallery now. Perhaps not the lead villain, but It would be nice to see what he would do with a blank slate, and after what the prior two films have done, I would dare say he has earned it.

Also.. I am glad Im not the only one to have thought of Hugh Laurie as Riddler.

That would actually be very awesome. It would show how the effects of the Joker have lasted past the finale and his incarcertation. Much like in Firefly with those who survive Reavers trying to become them, this guy surviving the Joker trying to emulate him in his own different manner.

You know they covered The Scarecrow in good detail in Batman Begins, right? The Batman movie just before Dark Knight?

OT: I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt would play the role... Interestingly, at least. I think it could be good. :)

Johny Depp, Robert Downey Jr., Jimmy Carrey... Actually more so Johnny Depp, i heard a long time ago that he wanted that part badly.

EDIT: and wtf am i talkin about, Jimmy Carrey is to old to be the riddler.

A good theory, but I'm still hoping for David Tennant.
That would ruin it.

Because every time i see him, i think of that redicoulous and cheesy doctor who series, and i dont really think Tennant is that strong an actor, but i could be wrong.
tenant is a great actor he has worked on many things since doctor who and also he has been voted the best doctor of all time. I will say though I don't think he would make a good riddler

Hush teamed up with the Riddler in his premiere. Assuming it doesn't get overcrowded like, say "Batman and Robin," both could work well. Then you'd have the popular Riddler to draw audiences and the less well-known Hush to be awesome.

I think that they may have just wanted a recognizable character actor in that role to reinforce that it wasn't an ordinary bank.

Besides, since when was the Riddler a bank manager for the mob? Sounds more like Warren White, the Great White Shark.

I always thought he would turn out to be clayface. Sounds more realistic to me. I thought of this theory of him being in the next movie ever since I saw it in the cinema. Also, the problem with the Riddler being in it is that Heath Ledger's joker acted too much like the Riddler for his own good. So people will think the Riddler is a joker rip off unless they drastically change him.

Or you could just watch Batman Begins.

It would be kind of cool if this theory turned out to be true. Personally, I think Anthony Hopkins should play The Penguin. A creepy psycopathic penguin might be cool. Hopkins even looks like him to a certain extent.

still, my biggest question is what kind of riddler will we see? It won't an over the top campy one ala jim carrey, but how can you take a character like that seriously without him becoming a clone of the joker? Also, how can you make him a big enough threat to gotham? Any ideas?
I think that the 'slapstick'-style Riddler would be both too camp and too cliche for Nolan to want to use. Instead, I think he should be a highly-calculating, Hannibal Lecter-type of sociopath to contrast with the Joker's "just flat-out batshit-fucking-LOCO" brand of crazy. Refined, not physically intimidating, but has that 'look' in his eye. Speaks in rhyme occassionally, and likes to taunt the authorities and Batman by leaving clues in riddle form. Everything he's involved in should be incredibly complex with a lot of deadends and false leads.

EDIT: this is assuming that the rumors are true, and that Nolan has absolutely no plans to continue directing the series past the next one, and so you'd have a sort of Riddler/Penguin mashup character.

That's fairly interesting. The Riddler is probably my favorite Batman villain second to The Joker. I would really love to see Bane and Prometheus done though.

I also heard Catwoman is rumored to be in the 2012 movie also, any one have knowledge on that?
I think Megan Fox expressed interest but I really hope she doesn't make it.

He's only a banker as he's following in his fathers footsteps, never made a decision for himself trying to please a distant father figure. In his freetime he enjoys solving puzzles, his brilliant mind numbed by his boring day job running the bank, something he finds trivial.

Then one fateful day the Joker does over his bank, his mob bosses not happy with him one bit turn to hold him responsible, late home he finds what the mobsters goons have left for him when they went to beat him and wasn't home decided to take it out on his wife.

Tipping him over the edge, turning his fury to find the one responsible he soon discovers Batman has taken his chance of vengeance from him and so Batman becomes his target for payback.

How best draw out the Bat though then attack what he loves most, Gotham...

Interesting theory, It certainly has my seal of approval. Fichtner played his roll as Mahone brilliantly in prisonbreak.
