Probably System of a Down. Although, I am tempted to say All That Remains, just cuz their name would be fitting.
Is SOAD really metal? I didn't think they classified, but if they do, then definitely them.
I'd say so. They may not be the heaviest metal band out there, but their definitely metal. Alternative metal if you wanna get technical.

Hum... Trivium or Alestorm as of now. Could change nest week though I'm not really one to fanboy over bands. Bar MSI but meh that's almost an in joke in my social circle than real fanboyism.

My Chemical Romance

Just kidding. It would be Tool, because that's actually the only metal band that doesn't make me cringe.

Devin Townsend, definitely. Though outside of Deconstruction, and sort of Ziltoid, he isn't that heavy these days. Still, I wouldn't want to take that chance, I'm keeping him.

You mean...who would I want to remain? Or who do I think would survive?

For the first, probably Nightwish. Mainly because I'm waiting patiently for Imaginarium.

For the second...well, Dragonforce may have had a chance with ZP Theart, but divided they would fall. I'm guessing the ones left over will be Lordi.

After all, <url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7jY1KlLcPo>they have to herald the coming Arockalypse, afterward.

Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy has an epic voice and their songs are awesome.
What about Dio? D:
What are you talking about? Dio's return will cause the Metal Apocalypse.

Is the first song I've heard about them.

For the rest I don't remember any other metal band worth mentioning.

Overkill
Playing awesome thrash for over 30 years and just keep getting better. Why they aren't classified as the big ONE is a mystery to me.

Pantera. I know they're not around any more but (bar Led Zep/Black Sabbath) they were the most influential metal band of all time, in my opinion. So yeah, Pantera
If we can count sub-genres and cross-genres then probably Killswitch or Parkway Drive cos I'm a huge metalcore/deathcore fan but not that big on actual heavy metal... except Pantera, of course

EDIT: Mastodon! Forgot about Mastodon! Yeah, I'd pick them

Opeth.

They took Chains and made it metal. Plus they're not American, which makes it a plus to me, cause I cant stand most American metal (despite being American).
Opeth or Tool for me (not sure it Tool really works as "metal" though)

also, Neurosis.

Metallica, but this same riff made them revert to back when they were good and brought Cliff Burton back to live.
