I'm reminded about a particular story I read in an online comment somewhere, about a young man who'd gotten tired of his father's homophobic rants about gays "recruiting" children.

"Dad, you must think that gay sex is the best thing ever."
"What? Why do you say that?"
"Because you seem to think that once someone tries it, they never go back!"

I think, deep down, these homophobes are terrified that their children will realize how narrow their views are and reject them utterly, so anything that could possibly shed light on the truth must be destroyed.

So, seeing as someone (Hi, downsyndromechimp! Welcome to The Escapist.) wanted to bring up political affiliations in this thread, allow me to enter mine.

None.

There is no right. There is no wrong. Only difference. Difference in perception, of thought, and of definition. There is no gay marriage - only marriage. Yet, even with all that I could say about this issue, there is one man who, 4 years ago during the issue with Proposition 8 in California, said it so eloquently that I will leave his message here.

They do realise they aren't going to have the slightest bit of an impact on the final decision I hope. There is absolutely no way DC is going to listen to them.

Can we just call these people "Ten thousand homophobes with too much time on their hands?" It would be a lot closer to accurate (if not so acronym-able). The only thing that seems mom-related about them is that every ridiculously misdirected campaign must needs at some point feature an overwrought "won't someone think of the children?!" angle.

To paraphrase Barney Stinson, if the gays start getting married everyone will, that's how it works; they do it and then 6 months later everyone else does it. Think of how the American family will be strengthened! Single life, as we know it, will cease to exist.

But seriously, OMM is fairly moronic. They have no actual sense and aren't welcome in a modern world, they have no place within society. To fight something like this is pathetic and shows that they have almost no idea of how to raise their kids and depend on entertainment mediums to do it for them. This is what happens when women ar... I'm kidding Escapists, would I ever make a sexist joke in a thread about discrimination?

Yes. The answer is yes.

There aren't anything like one million of them so can their name please appear in quotes in the future?

Also, they aren't really putting up much of a fight. It's a post on their website (that probably got more hits from here than from its membership) asking people to email the companies involved, who were presumably already aware of a certain level of opposition to gay rights when they came up with this story.

The best way to resist this nonsense is to ignore it. If they were powerful enough to effect change then yeah, fight back, but they're just a few wackos and pretty mild ones at that. DC knows how it's readership feels about this and they aren't about to stomp all over that for a handful of angry letters.

In short, bury this story.

GIven the trend of how a certain demographic of superheroes in Marvel have become less respectable, I am unfortuantely theorizing Wonder Woman, given background and how people keep misreading the "bondage" thing.

Eh, I'm not sure about this whole 'first openly gay superhero' thing. Kathy Kane was gay, as was Renee Montoya, and they were out of the closet. They weren't known as gay superheroes but it's still close enough in my book to make this little more than another meaningless publicity stunt on the part of DC.

As for the One Million Mothers. Christ they get on my tits. Why is it that they feel such an all-encompassing need to meddle in other people's lives. If you don't want your children to see that gay men can be in committed monogamous relationships then don't buy the comic. Maybe you should all be getting Spider Man, since apparently selling your marriage and unborn child to the literal devil is okay but being gay is super no-no.

Seconded, though I think the Bible does technically consider homosexuality an abomination (this must be the part that drives people away from Christianity). I honestly don't give a shit unless I'm rooming with a gay guy or something (and I knew about it), in which case I would feel a little uncomfortable.

"Suddenly have the gay?"

The hell?
OMM herpin de derp again!
I was thinking that too. Is it like the Black Plague now?

OT: Why is it ANYONE elses problem? The reason I don't have an answer when people ask my my opinion on gay marriage, or homosexuality in general is because I don't have one. It's not my business, nor should it be the business of any other heterosexual. Why do so many of my fellow Christians believe that homosexuality is suddenly the taint of the devil and a stain upon our society? The Bible never says anything about homosexuals, just homosexual acts, and I think that's mainly because sodomy was originally used as a contraceptive, which the church does have a history of disagreement with (I don't want to get into that right now, though)
This "One Million Moms" group is probably just about 10 or 20 of homophobic old coots who are deathly afraid that their kids are "Going to catch the gay".
Someone else already did so, but I will too:
On behalf of my fellow religious, I apologize.

There is no sitting on the fence with this your either against it, or you tell the bigots in your local church they are the ones who should be hanging themselves due to hate and bullying not Innocent gay's
This is an argument in the real world which means you can do something about it.

Wait for it! I have the perfect song for the mindset of OMM!

Seriously, who thought of those guys.
[sub] I don't want to live on this planet anymore... [/sub]
I'm just ashamed that people like that exist.

These people should be banned from raising children.
This is pretty much a hate crime, so they need some kind of punishment. It wouldn't be any different if people complained about making Nick fury black, and I;m sure there'd be much more outrage against that. Unbelievable.

Don't worry, OMM. Introducting that a character is gay comes with strings attached - verifying that the other characters around them have the NOT-gays!!

...but no yeah, these people are idiots. And really not the kind of people I want raising a generation of children.

I actually have seen this. There's a website called like Republican DC or something where they pretty much take everything that's introduced in comic books as a massive Liberal conspiracy to breed acceptance and kindness into the younger generations, ohhh noooo can't have that. Though let's be honest. When you have a character who they basically switch out for Samuel L. Jackson, you do NOT "complain" about that. You sit down and you accept it because it's just that cool. Replacing most anyone with Sam Jackson is arguably an instant improvement.

One million moms, doing all they can do shame their name for the rest of internet history via Facebook.

"Hey y'all, Billy's great grandma was a crazy bigot. Check out this one million moms page."

I mean, do these people not realize they're the klan of their own age?

Is it batman? I hope it's batman XD. Not sure why. Just cause.
And they want to complain about superheroes being gay? Last I checked, I haven't seen a kid dress up as Iron Man and say that they want to be a heavy drinker like him. Or act like they're "above the law" vigilante like batman. I guess superheros can do anything and it be ok... except be gay.
