Trying to have a different thought here.... But, DC just said that "one" of the heroes would be gay... And yet, for some reason I'm expecting them to make someone like Wonder Woman a lesbian....
Just sayin....

Back on topic... As someone said earlier... Groups and "movements" like these give themselves bad reps... So what if a child wants to have a boyfriend? Would you rather we go back several hundred years when an announcement like this got people burnt at the stake?
*sigh*
Let people be whoever the fuck they want to... all you're doing (the AFA that is) is trying to shove the ideals of the 16th century down kids throats... It's their life, not yours... So Bleh I say, BLEH!

I must say that if they´re really going to pick someone like the Flash or Batman, my respect for DC would really grow. Those are some big names.

I hate these bitches so much... they're so redundant and stupid. They waste all of this time and energy spewing stupid-speak about how homosexual people are worthless and unnatural and then have gall to ask why gay people need role models.

And I love how they have the balls to name themselves "one million" when their numbers reach about a hundred thousand. Which is actually sad enough.

Their irrelevance actually keeps me from hating them. They are so ineffective, so pointless, that I can't hate. I have to laugh. And it's not like this doesn't apply to me. I'm trans, bisexual and a feminist. I think the only way I could tick more boxes on the "family values" hate list is if I were a muslim. It's just funny watching them nip at our ankles like yappy dogs.[/quote]

They are quite fun to watch it's true. A fun, leisurely activity for a night in is visiting their website and sending funny little comments. I've done this a few times... no reply yet. :(

lol, a good way to stop a yappy little dog is to give it a quick kick to the mouth.

Noooo need to apologize. It's something I partake in on a regular basis. It is much fun indeed.

Wow. Do people still think that 'exposing' a child to homosexuality will turn them gay? That's just brilliant!

Also I'm sure it's not just the gays that will enjoy the inclusion of a gay character in the DC universe. Straight people are just as capable of enjoying the many intricacies that may come with characters with 'alternative' sexualitys.

Bless you OMM. You really are pointless.
yes there are people that think if their children see movie or tv show with homosexual overtones/undertones it will turn them gay. I really wish I was making this up but I'm not Living where I do it's just the normal way people think with as many churches as burger joints.

Part of me wonders what DC comics will do with a gay superhero. I want them to make it a normal person.

The reality is that they will mostly likely do something like this:

When will writers know that gay people are just like everyone else? Not every gay guy is like Big Gay Al or some mindless sex fiend like Zevran from Dragon Age. A person being gay doesn't mean they shoot rainbows out of their ass, doesn't make someone a master hair stylist, doesn't make them have extraordinary abilities to decorate a room, etc.

Writers relying on stereotype is getting tiring.
That's the dumbest thing on this whole page, man. Where did you even pull this picture from?

Where is there any implication that because the character will be gay that they'll be stereotypically gay? Like leather-clad and sex-crazed? Nowhere.

There are two relatively well-known characters in the DC universe already who've been a gay couple for a long time and they're not like that at all. Well... okay one of them is rather leather-clad but that's besides the point! Somehow!

Sorry to be rude but that seemed like a rather large waste of energy and time.

That entire thing you posted right there can be summed up as contradictory. You CANNOT be okay with homosexual people and be concerned about your kids becoming gay. Whatever the reasons. "I don't have a problem with people being gay as long as my kids don't become gay." Does that even sound right to you?
Why not? I presented an argument that one can believe that there is no intrinsic problem with homosexuality (hence that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with being gay), but that there are extrinsic (possible) effects of homosexuality that one might want to avoid.

How about if we draw an analogy with obesity: if you say that you don't want your kids to be obese, does that mean you must have a problem with fat people?

The entire point of my argument was to challenge the intuition that one must be a bigot if one doesn't want one's children to be gay. Your response was simply an appeal to the very intuition that I was questioning without giving an additional explanation for why the intuition is correct. Hence, your objection begs the question at hand.

It's a simple fact that being raised by two gay people does not guarantee the child will grow up gay just as there's no guarantee that being raised by two straight people will produce a straight child. In fact, as I'm sure you realize, MOST of the gay people in the world today were raised by heterosexual parents.
You do realize that I made no such claim, right? The argument I presented only attempted to substantiate the very weak claim that there are at least some prima facie reasons (given that homosexuality seems to have some sort of developmental component) to think that homosexual households might have a greater probability of producing homosexual children. I didn't say anything about any guarantees. I also pointed out that the argument was inductive and didn't have much proof either way. I wasn't arguing for its conclusion.

Now, like I said, you can still object to parents on the basis that they should treat their children as an ends unto themselves, and not as a means to propagate their genes. But that would require a more general argument about the moral duties of parents, and would not require that said parents are bigots.

People arguing over issues like this is the reason we don't have spaceships yet.
On a serious note however, why do people feel it neccessary to worry about issues that have litteraly no effect on their daily lives when there are so many other things we SHOULD be worring about. I don't care if you screw men, women, hell even donkeys, as long as you can manage to just shut the hell up and start being an adult. For those escapists who arent from the states you might not realize that we are in a recession (as if it were possible to not notice), and yet we are constantly arguing over social issues that don't effect us in the least. So in closing, be accepting, be logical, be a little intelligent, and maybe we can crawl out of this social, economic, and scientific lull that is continuously dragging our species back down to the stone age.

On an lighter note, is it a coincidence that OMM is MMO backwards, and where as the people of OMM hate gays, people in MMO'S think everyones a fag.

It's impossible for gay people to be exceptional in any conceivable way.

Much in the same way that it is entirely possible for One Million Moms to gain one million members and be able to effectively communicate rational beliefs in a helpful manner.

These are the type of women who would strangle their confused children and try to mold them into something they are not and either make their lives miserable or up our young adult suicide rate. They want to stamp out peoples chance of happiness and the chance to feel good about themselves by being what they really are. They are evil and should shut the hell up and go back to whatever cave they crawled out of.

One million moms? more like one million cave trolls.

I've always wondered this myself.

OT: I hate that there are so many people who are so terrified that something will exist that they don't absolutely love.

If the kids are already looking up to big manly men in spandex getting along really well, I don't really think one of them being openly gay is going to make the slightest bit of difference.
This.

Honestly, I'm surprised people's loyalty to superhero comics is so fierce considering how campy they all look (and often act). I've never been able to take it seriously. Frankly, I'm surprised it's just the one that's turning up gay.

This just in: more ineffectual hatred from the peanut gallery.

Eh. I'm trying way hard to get enraged about this, but I've been exposed to so much bigotry in the past few days (e.g. the homosexual concentration camp shit) that it's getting harder and harder to take them seriously. Plus, I don't think OMM is a threat. All they can do is write angry emails and we already saw how well that worked with Archie.

But now, a superhero that kids have grown up with will suddenly have the gay.
I realize this is likening homosexuality to a disease and that is sad, but the phrase "have the gay" is pretty damn hilarious.

Honey, if your kid is gay, no amount of hot manly romance is gonna make a difference. It's already too late.

You have GOT to be fucking kidding me! Obviously, OMM have spent so much time trying to indoctrinate people into their way of thinking that they're convinced everyone else is trying to do the same thing.

I think we've found the first group for Newt's moon colony!
