Some how, I hadn't even thought that Poe's Law [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PoesLaw?from=Main.ptitlehkm94ato] could be in effect here.

that puts things in a completely different perspective now.

<color=LightGrey>How is it I know what Poe's Law is, but don't even consider it when it comes to things like this?

hope DC doesn't cave in to these religious wing nuts. as a straight male, i see nothing wrong with what DC is doing, if anything it will help our children by breaking down some of the bigotry.

"This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light," they continued. "These companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children's superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable."
This just proves that they are ignorant idiots and it would be better to remove those idiots from children's life's.

There are also gay children/teenager who need a role model. They need to know that they aren't a weirdo for being different. I know that I had, and still have some problems from hating my self for over 8 years because of the "being gay is bad" mentality.

A gay hero wouldn't have solved my problems, but he would at least have made it a bit easier when I was hiding in the fictional world.

Funny, I don't remember One Million Moms making a big deal when DC's JLA: Cry For Justice had superheroes torturing villains for information or Green Arrow shooting Prometheus through the eye or Roy Harper getting his arm messily chopped off. Hell, I didn't even hear them complaining when DC rewrote Starfire into a superheroine blow-up doll for the relaunch.

I guess all of that is okay as long as it doesn't involve two men kissing.

I thought there might be a name for it out there somewhere. I really hope I'm right, because otherwise it's just horrendously depressing.

Went through exactly the same thing, and I agree completely. If we had more open, and fairly treated, gay characters in popular fiction, and the word "gay" wasn't being used as a catch-all term for "bad" in common speech then it could be a lot easier for young people to accept who they are and grow up feeling good about themselves.

Here's what we need to do. Once the hero comes out of the closet, we green light a movie staring that hero. We make sure his sexual orientation is known and even have a romantic subplot like all the other superhero movies. Then, we have all the comic book fans see the movie on opening day and make it the #1 movie in the world.

So they actually said gays wanted to 'indocrinate' children. I dont think these people are talking about the same thing we are, no one can have that level of ignorance on both gays and how sexuality works in general.

they're just being stupid and approaching this wrongly. why waste your time complaining against stuff when you can counter it. americans aren't creative enough. if they where, that club would be setting up the christian comic society or something and making they're own magazine.

on a personal note, if those people from marvel and dc want one of their characters to be gay, i don't think you can stop them. they'll probably just top it. like creating a gay D&D character and making him do something weird and pervertical when the player notices the other's repulsion.

I have a completely serious question.

Why are comics suddenly so fucking obsessed with gay activism and political correctness? Both of the major comic companies have dived faced first into confronting homosexuality and it's ridiculous. There's a reason most video game protagonists are straight. Most people are straight.

That's how life is.

Why make a character gay for no reason? It's tacky. Maybe if one of them had a male antagonist who always had some slight degree of sexual tension it could be cool (think Batman and Catwoman), but otherwise it just feels like they are shoehorning political correctness into the already fully stuffed boot that is the comic industry.
Because there are enough gay people out there that they deserve a decent gay role model. Yeah, the majority of people are straight, but currently pretty much ALL media reinforces the idea that being straight is the "default" and that being gay makes you some kind of "other". Which is pretty hrash on gay people, especially teenagers struggling to come to terms with their identity. Having a high profile gay superhero (dear god let it be Batman. He's so stereotypically macho, it would be glorious)would be a way of offering support to those kids. And it's hilarious the fuss that happens, DC could come out and say that they don't give a damn about gay people and just wanted to troll bigots, and i'd be happy.

Basically, why SHOULDN'T they make Batman gay?

OT: I really hope it turns out to be Batman.

Yes, because being gay is a choice. *roll eyes*

"Batman likes the cock, so now so do I."

Anyway, as far as I know DC/Marvel haven't responded yet. I hope they laugh in their stupid faces to be quite honest. There's been too many times things in the media have been changed to please a minority of people who bitched. Stick to your guns, DC.

I wouldn't be surprised if the children of these mums are actually gay. If I were a lad and exposed to these ignorant fucks growing up I'd be well and truly put off the vagina!

Ug I hate to even slightly agree with OMM, but oh well. I would love to have more gay characters in comics but I feel what they are doing now might be a mistake. It feels like a marketing gimik and I don't think the LGBT community just wants numbers, but quality. Suddenly making the flash or Martian Man hunter gay is an admirable move, but it feels arbitrary and I am wondering if them being gay will be a meaningful part of their character (so neither supper campy nor exactly the same but just randomly saying "I'm Gay"). Also the two "obvious" examples of either Batman or Wonder Woman would feel a bit silly and bring with both of them a lot of baggage, especially with Batman.

That said I can't argue with anyone who is pissing off OMM
