This topic came to me as I stared at my games library. Typically, we buy games of a similar vein, or a type of humor, genre, whatever, and for the most part, they are pretty good. But then, we tend to buy games that make people go, "Really?" It could be that they are bad, or that they are good, but just out of character of who we are.

The two games I have in my library are PS2 games, and they are, compared to the more lighthearted fair of the Playstation 1 library I have (mostly platformers) and a lot of my Playstation 2 games list, very different. They aren't the same type of genre, but if I mentioned that I hate sports, would it strike anybody odd to admit I have Hot Shots Golf 3, and I love it?

The other game that doesn't match my personality (I am a Mid 20s White male with more a build for something different than just consecutive Shooters, or just RPGs) is Def Jam: Fight for NY. It's funny, because I am not really a fighting game nut of any kind (I used to have Marvel V. Capcom 3 and the Ultimate version, but I sold those), but Def Jam is a game that I used to play endlessly back on my PS2. In fact, I used to delete my saves and play it all over again.

So, of your gaming library, what is the one game that doesn't fit with everything else? Do you have a penchant for Survival Horror but have a copy of Tomba!, or a desire to kill everything with a gun but secretly love Barbie Horse Adventures?

It's not guilty pleasures, because I admit that DJ: FFNY and Hot Shots Golf 3 are actually pretty damn solid, but what are some games that would make anybody on here on in real life flash a double take if they saw it?

I've got a pretty balanced game collection. If anything sticks out is Killer7, and that's because that game sticks out no matter where you put it.

Well, in recent years, I've been able to gather a rather large collection of games from diverse genres.

Genres that I'm not particularly interested in remain absent and genres that I don't play often still have a good number in their category.

The only game I would say would stand out is El Shaddai, probably because it is one of the few titles that many might not have heard of, yet instantly fall in love with it once they start playing it.

I tend to only buy games I feel I'll enjoy playing, regardless of genre or critical response (I love Alone In The Dark on Xbox360, for example). The only genres I don't have anything of are sports and fighting games, and that's just because they don't interest me. However, I do have a grand total of one racing game, i.e. Project Gotham Racing 4. Purely because I used to have PGR3, it was stolen and never recovered, and my (non-gamer) younger brother had PGR4 a while later which he got bored of and gave to me. I do actually enjoy it a lot, even if I am no good at it, but the one thing I can't forgive the developers for is removing the 'build-your-own-track' feature from PGR3. The addition of motorcycles just barely makes it acceptable.

My collection is pretty big but most of it is untouched now, stuck in a dark cabinet never seeing the light of day. I lost interest in FPS games once Halo 4 came out along with like 50 others so that's half the collection gone.

The only games not in that collection are BlazBlue CS EX, Persona 4, Persona 4 Arena, Devil Survivor Overclocked and Fire Emblem Awakening all strewn about on my desk instead.

I used to hate turn based battle games and fighting games but that's all I play now. That and League/DOTA.

I also have a total of two good visual novels tucked away in the corner of my desktop, Katawa Shoujo (I assume most of you have at least heard of it by now) and Grisaia no Kaijitsu. Both well written games, heavy on the feels with some good comedy in there. 'Specially in GoK's case. Michiru is best girl.

Based soley on game cover, i would say Catherine. Because LOLBOOBS.

If we are talking about the game, i would add hyperdimension neptunia, because that's fan servy as fuck.

If we are talking genre, i would say Sakura wars: goodbye my love, but to be fair, it was not what i thought it was.

I remember when I was a kid, the games I used to always play on the Playstation 1 were Crash Bandicoot, Tobal (A Tekken sort of game I loved) and then things like Sheep, Dog n Wolf, Rugrats games and whatnot.

Then randomly, a game I played a lot with and without my dad: Fisherman's Bait. Fucking seriously.

Interesting question, I like this thread! Anyway I have a pretty broad game library, I've played pretty much any genre at some stage in my life. I guess Catherine would be the most obvious standout, a puzzle-platformer about cheating and commitment with some eldritch horror thrown in? That's going to stand out in any library I would think.

i try to keep a diverse library but i dont play all genres. you may find it strnage but my most prominent genres are strategy and FPS, something that most people consider the opposite ends of the spectrum.
what stands out for me is probably my racing game(s). there are only 3 racing games in my library, that is Dirt, NFS:U and Colin Mrae Rally 2, all of them old. I really kind of gave up on any sports games as i find i dont really like them. so when i tell people im a strategy gamer they usually go "but lol you play X fps you msut be a shooter guy" and totaly overlook stand-out racing game.

For me, I played a lot of sports and platformers as a kid, and a lot of shooters as a high schooler. Going to college and finding many of my friends played very different games, I started getting a lot of odd titles with JRPGs, puzzle games, and a lot of stuff I never normally played.

As of late I've really gotten into the Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, and Persona/SMT series, mostly through HD remakes and the recent titles, which are games I never would have considered a few years ago, and soon I hope to grab some things like Ni No Kuni and Bravely Default. I'm definitely a different gamer than I used to be.

I have a broad diversity of games if you look at all of them, but my PC and console libraries are quite different where PC has mostly western games and console has mostly Japanese games.

Though I'd say Duke Nukem forever stands out the most for being a non-exclusive shooter I got for a console. It was so much cheaper than PC version and was physical so I could get it autographed.

Haha, woah. Hot Shots Golf 1 and Def Jam: FfNY are two of mine too for the same reasons. Although I update MLB The show occassionally yet claim to not like sports games. I don't like fighters - yet am also looking at Injustice real hard. Catherine is another of mine but it may be because it is just unique itself. I have a metric crapton of third person action games. Them, strategy, and simulation makes up 95% of my collection.

This is tough, my library is pretty eclectic. Though it consists primarily of RPGs and action platformers. Maybe Dishonored or Deus Ex: Human Revolution. They're the only two games I own that are primarily in first-person or use stealth as a major mechanic.

I mostly tend to play RPGs, Strategy, Adventure, or Simulation games, either sandbox games or ones heavy on narrative. So it may come across as slightly odd that I also have Scribblenauts Unlimited and enjoy it quite a lot, it's very cathartic.

The only games I don't actively play are sports games (not counting arcade-y derivatives, like Mario *name of sport* or ostensibly whacky concepts like Burnout), rhythm games (no exceptions) and party games (cause I have no friends *sadface*), so my library of games already looks like a game retailers shelf then a passionate hobbyists collection.

I suppose if you were looking at my GoG library, Daikatana would stand out a fair bit. Nestled between such classics as Dungeon Keeper, Thief and Deus Ex sits this putrid pile of septic ass leavings. This of course requires understanding of why Daikatana is such a wretched bile drenched turd for it to stand out.

If I could I would remove it from the library. I bought it on a collection sale and it was cheaper to have it then not to have it. I have no integrity.

Mhh... my collection is pretty broad.

If there was a game that stood up because of contrast with my personality, it would be Brutal Legend, because I am not into heavy metal, at all... but I found the synergy of Double Fine and Jack Black to be an entertaining result.

I've tried looking...but my game collection is pretty diverse. While I typically don't like platformers or puzzle games, I still own quite a few. I own an assortment of first person shooters, third person shooters, racing games, rpgs, platformers, puzzles, simulation, strategy, and just about anything else. If it looks like something I'd enjoy playing, I typically attempt to get it.

Now that I think about it though...I could have sworn I had some kind of japanese hentai game on a disc somewhere. I probably lost it when I moved, but from what I remembered of it, that's probably for the best. If I could find it, that would probably stick out on my shelf to anyone within 100 meters of my house.

I don't buy race games, but I bought Burnout: Revenge after playing the shit out of the demo. (I also own Motorstorm, but that's because it was bundled with my PS3.)

Now that I think about it, there aren't that many genres I don't play. My favorite ones are platformers and RPGs, followed up by action/adventures, puzzlers, shooters - even the occasional fighting game or car combat title. The only ones I really don't like are racing games, simulators and RTS games.

And even then, I did play and enjoy Theme Park and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, which are kind of "amusement park simulators" with slightly RTS-like mechanics.
