A friend of mine told me about a question to get into a university, it was a experimental one they were told to answer the question "is this a question" many candidates wrote several pages on this, one guy who was in the exam was done in five minutes, he simply responded "depends if this is an answer" he got in.

So my challenge to you is "Is this a question"
Your answer must not be the above example.
Edit: Whoops I didn't mean to add el question marko. My bad.

I don't understand how this is even a hard thing to answer. "Is this a question?" clearly is a question.

"Yes." (this deserves no follow up, just like the question "can I ask you a question?")

That would be my answer including the sentence in parenthesis

It has a question mark.. As far as I know (I'm no A grade english student) that makes it a question.

No it's a statement posing as a question trying to get behind enemy lines. That curve is obviously fake. Don't fall for it.

You call that a question? <--- THIS is a question!

Also, the above must be read in an Australian accent.

But that's a spoon. Or were you going for Crocodile Dundee?
Well, I see you've played question-spoony before.

And it was Dundee.

Was this for a Philosophy course? Some of my flatmates do Philosophy, but I'm more at home in the realm of numbers (I'm studying BSc Maths). I remember something like that happening to a friend of mine ages ago, just trying to remember the actual story of what happened. Vaguely similar to this, though... Anyway, if this is a question? Then this is an answer. But if this isn't an answer, then is this a question?

Basically, something we learned in Maths is that if one statement is true, it doesn't mean that it's converse (opposite) is also true. Like, you can say that all rabbits are blue, that doesn't mean that everything blue is a rabbit. However, you can also say that all fruits are an orange, and then say that all oranges are fruit (obviously these are hypothetical examples). That is a case where the converse is true. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. Off-topic, I know, but an interesting point nonetheless...

Without a question mark I would still say it's a question.

However, if I was expected to provide a "better" answer, I would say that the person who asked it has no control over the English language as they left off a punctuation mark making it wrong. Either that or I would add the question mark (assuming you write on the same paper as the question is on) to make it one.

Can a pig know Buddha nature? Or was it a dog?
Doesn't matter - to me, the sound of one hand clapping is simply "cl"

Is this a question--

Shouldn't you be psychologically evaluating people more honestly before you let them into your university?

Because let's face it, that's all they are doing in asking that question. The people who provide questions as answers that relate to the original question (or was it? haha etc...) will be accepted because intelligent people ask questions. The ones who try and make it into something completely overblown and needlessly complex won't get in because they can't see the obvious in front of them, regardless of how intelligent they are anyway or what a good arguement they make. Kinda a shallow way of deciding who gets into the university or not.

Well it is shown above as not having a question mark, but it definitely sounds like a question, that much is certain.
