Ok, my other topic about gaming hand guns brought up this point. What about the best one-time-use weapons in games.

These are to help settle a debate about the best hypothetical weapons to have in a loadout.

The obvious choice for me is the Cain from Mass Effect 2, I mean you really only need to use it once - it destroys Everything! (I know you can find more ammo for it, but never really enough to use it more than once in any given level). But, does anyone have any others and why?

I think weapons that you can only use once in a game are actually quite rare, I can't think of many, most games will always supply you with multiple rounds for even the most overpowered weapons, (BFG 9000 case in point). I suppose it's because if the designers put the effort into making a big, cool weapon, they want it to be used and appreciated.

The only one I can think of right now is the Personal Ion Cannon from Command and Conquer Renegade. They took the most powerful superweapon from an RTS game series, and gave you the power to fire it right at the position you are standing on!, It's a one use beacon, and it starts firing as soon as you set the beacon down, so you had to run as fast as you can without looking back and you will just make it out of the blast radius. An insane weapon, but so much fun to use.

The Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3. For reference, another weapon in the game, the Fatman, launches a single miniature nuke capable of reducing the largest enemies in the game to a substance remeniscient of strawberry jam in, at most, two shots. The EMIRV launches EIGHT of these miniature nukes simultaneously. This weapon is literally capable of one-shotting a medium-sized town.

Since the Experimental MIRV was taken, I'll go with pipebombs from Killing Floor (closest thing to come to mind)

They cost an arm and a leg, unless you're using the Demolitions perk you can't carry more than two, and even when you are using Demolimitons you don't carry that much until you reach high levels.

But shit, this thing can basically destroy every specimen except for a Scrake, Fleshpound or the Patriarch. Even then, they have a sizable chunk of health missing.

"YOU! BE A DEMO-MAN AND TAKE ALL MY MONEY!!"

I always drop one and keep one on hand as a Support Specialist and I try to get more from ammo crates.

What was the name of that satellite laser in New Vegas? I'd go with that one.

Hell yes. Makes fighting the Patriarch a breeze if your team leaves a bunch of them lying around.

Hmm...My heart would have to go out to the Serious bomb in Serious Sam. Yeah, you can technically find several of them throughout the campaign but they were rare enough that I only ever found 1 in a playthough, and usually that's all I ever needed.

The T.A.G. from Unreal Championship. It basically was just a beacon that you set on an enemy who would then be vaporized by an orbital cannon moments later...And it was fun.

Whatever technique/weapon you get in RPGs when you're the main character in the final battle that you've just been waiting to pull out of your ass I suppose.

OMGOMGOMG The VC-5 Lightning Gun from Killzone 2.
THIS GUN IS PIMP!! And without a doubt one of the best power-trips in gaming.
