I honestly just like Marineford so much because a lot happened. Like all episodes up until now had been building up to this moment and this was the climax. I love a lot of the secondary characters in One Piece, like Ace, Whitebeard, etc. and they all got a lot of screen-time. And the overall story seemed to actual move in this arc.

I also understand very few people die, Oda actually explained at one point why Luffy doesn't kill his enemies. But after I see people getting shot, stabbed, slashed, etc. in that Alabasta Arc and they're just fine and dandy, I tend to get a little peeved off. Like just because Vivi willed it no one died.

I've read bits and pieces of the manga, mostly to compare the large scenes in the anime with the manga. The manga took fifteen pages to do what the anime did in twenty minutes. The manga is straight and to the point, while the anime seems to drag things out a bit. It seems to be a common occurrence in shonen manga to anime. The manga have such short chapters, it is difficult to make it into a single episode. To Love-Ru had the same problem.

*snip* these are getting long aren't they
Those characters look pretty good to me. With flamingo there maybe his coat's a bit flamboyant but beyond that he looks human. And the other dude looks intimidating, sure its basically a fat clown in black but look at him he's a damn nightmare clown from hell. Where do guys like that show up? see that's what I'm talking about you have guys that look intimidating while also looking cartoonish later on in the show. So where should I head so that I start seeing guys like that?

Doflamingo shows up early, but doesn't encounter Luffy until just now. Moria is pretty deep in the series. But it sounds like you're suffering from shitty filler ruining a context that the author was trying to set up. Other people in the thread seem to be suggesting CP9/water seven, but all of this, I think, will be enjoyed more if you like the characters. To be honest, I'd say it starts getting good upon entry into the grand line, and you're almost there if you got to episode 60. I think just pull through, and when the giant whale shows up, you'll know shit has started hitting fans, and you're no longer in a filler arc.

Honestly it sound like you should just give up on it especially if you don't like the artstyle and humor.

As to when it get good, I would say the CP9 arc (that when shit just got serious).

That is both my favorite, and most hard to watch Arc. You just want to see things get solved for the better, but the story is so intense.

That and when...oh wait...that's spoiler area now...wow most of the things that really stick in my head are spoilers now that I think of it.

Personally I prefer the Manga, or the Subbed Anime.

... and yet I actually skipped chunks of Marineford 'cause it was the first time (outside of filler ofc) that I'd ever found myself actually bored of the show: pretty much everything I hate about shonen, Marineford has in fucking spades:

Action --> people being shocked by action.
Revelation --> people being shocked by revelation.
Repeat ad nauseam.

It's was like I'd gone back to watching Bleach again. *cringe*
Yeah Alabasta slows the show down to a halt. And Marineford was far better in the manga, simply because it didn't feel so padded.

Cypher Pol arc was brilliant and I quite enjoyed the underwater arc simply because all the characters got to show off their new, awesome abilities.

I can only speak from my experience in reading the manga, really. I assume the anime falls into the same general patterns, not accounting for filler and padding.

Honestly, I had to force myself through One Piece, not really because it is bad per se, but because my enjoyment of its individual arcs seems ridiculously inconsistent.

I remember feeling bored to tears by the early series, at least until it reached the part where they recruit Sanji. That part of the arc was pretty cool. The Grand Line should be where things really pick up, but frankly, the Drum Island, Alabasta, and (dear God Almighty) the Davy Back segment all bored me to tears. But none of those can compare to the nightmare that was the Skypeia arc. I was so jaded by then that I didn't even make it to the Enies Lobby arc... which is supposed to be great.

Instead, I skipped ahead to Impel Down, which I actually enjoyed. And then the timeskip hit and we were faced with the Fishman Island arc which... I have mixed feelings about.

Well seeing as everyone is suggesting Enies Lobby...

OP... it's on Toonami, RIGHT NOW, they're fighting CP9, RIGHT. NOW. So atm until the Impel Down Arc, One Piece is actually worth watching. Otherwise you should drop it if you're not having a good time because yes, the anime is dreeeeeeeadful. Manga to a far less extent for obvious reasons already given.
