Good: A supremely gifted, hardworking and visually expressive director who is able to blend fantastical elements with solid story telling and expert technicality.

Bad: Has had the worst luck in the movie-making business recently.

Chris Nolan:

Good: One of the most exciting writer/directors in Hollywood and has never made a bad film.

Bad: Erm... I'll get back to you on that one.

I actually like a lot of Tarantino's dialogue. I watched a few episodes of Dark Angel recently and Jesus Christ is the slang awful.

And I agree (to an extent). I'm not saying I don't like it or that it's bad. I'm just saying that his dialogue placement (and length) in his movies are kinda what ruins my mood in that film.
Art thou kidding me? Your taste and all, but his movies and dialogue are masterpieces (with the exception of Jackie Brown. That one was OK). Tarantino does so intriguing dialogue that i find Kill Bill 2 better than 1. (Y'know almost no action compared to TONS OF ACTION 'N STUFF).

I think Inglorious Basterds really is where his dialogue shines the most.

Quentin Tarantino

Good news: He has a good talent/imagination for intense sequences.

Bad news: His dialogue is best reserved for a blog, not a movie.

He's not too bad, but waaayy too overrated and unrealistic.
What do you mean by unrealistic? Like the gimp n' stuff in Pulp Fiction? Well in that case pretty much every director can be accused of making unrealistic movies.

James Cameron: Lucky and horribly untalented but somehow a rich bastard.
The good: Has watched Titanic and Avatar.
The bad: Hasn't watched the first two Terminators.
Or Aliens.
I actually didn't like Aliens. It was an okay action movie, but I liked the horror-movie feel in the first much more. The alien in that was something deadly, unknown and almost indestructible. In the second movie, they're generic cannon fodder that get mowed down by the hundreds for most of the movie. I just don't enjoy James Cameron's style of film-making.

The good - He imagined an excellent world with compelling characters.
The bad - He spent the next 30 years shitting all over it.
Yes, and now our last hope is the people who do the books and comics for extended universe, because at least there, he has little to no control.

OT: well, this, pretty much ^^^
George Lucas actually stated that everything in the extended universe is non-canon...

I quote myself: "at least there he has little to no control." As far as I'm concerned, fuck him. It's canon, deal with it, Lucas.

Edit: It's sure as hell more deserving of being canon than that scum clone wars BS (the thing with Anakin's apprentice, not the cartoon that was done between the makings of episodes 2 and 3. That was pretty good.

George Lucas
Good: Creating a truly unique, controversial and iconic series.
Bad: Not being able to work outside of that genre. (see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull).
Also, Jar Jar Binks.
Also, not knowing when to stop while he's ahead (see Force Unleashed).
Also, making Darth Vader not nearly as badass in games as he is in the films (see Soul Calibur, Force Unleashed).

Zack Snyder
Good: Perfect camera angles, an excellent visionary director, incredible special effects and action scenes (see 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch).
Bad: Realising that the supporting cast needs a degree of depth as well (see 300 and Sucker Punch).

Good: Probably one of the best directors for setting up well defined characters and atmosphere.

Bad: Everything he makes will be forever compared to GoodFellas.

Edgar Wright:

Good - Clever, original style with hilarious scripting and epic action scenes.

Bad - Uhh, not to sound fanboy-ish or whatever, but... I can't think of anything. The man's a genius. And I'm trying really hard here, too >.<

That's a tad unfair. He's very good at making spectacles and using special effects, but crappy with absolutely everything else :p

Peter Jackson - My excitement for the Hobbit overrides any negative things I might have to say about him. :p
