So, I'm looking for a game me and a friend of mine, who lives far away, can play online together, and I figured this would be the best place to look for suggestions.

What I'm looking for would be something not too processor intensive, because my friend doesn't have a very powerful computer, and it kinda has to be for PC because, while we both own consoles, neither of us has the same ones.
I was hoping for something kinda simple, that's easy to just jump into, so that we don't have to spend forever getting it down, but really any suggestion is good.

So, does anybody have any interesting suggestions for things I can play with my friend?

Neverwinter - it's free to play, fun, MMO-lite and you can easily get to max level without spending any money.

Try out killing floor. Its a FPS multiplayer horde mode which is easy to learn and theres a variety of ways to play the game, even within the various classes the game has

Path of exile is a free diablo-esque game

You could also try one of the many free to play MMO's out there. Games like Raiderz, Neverwinter, Star trek online, Rift, Tera online, etc, etc, etc

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but I wasn't really looking for MMOs. I was looking for something a little simpler; easier to just jump into and play without a lot of signups or learning controls.

I actually found a Pokemon Battle simulator that looks fun to play, but I'll have to see what my friend thinks first.

Terraria, Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light, any Diablo clone, Renegade Ops, Castle Crashers, Serious Sam (old version, HD and SS3), Gears of War 1 had Co-op on 360, the PC version might too, Resident Evil 5, Trine 2 (maybe), Jamestown is a blast to play co-op but it's local only.

Also there are plug ins to enable online play in Mame and other emulators so you can Co-op with 1941 or Streets of Rage.

I've never tried it out myself so I can't say how good each game is online.

I second Killing floor. Easy to learn and you can have some great fun with it even if its just horde mode ats its base :)

Plus the requirements are really low.

+1 Killing Floor, I love that game. Though my only two PC gaming friends don't really like it. But their favorite shooter is Ace of Spades, so no accounting for taste there.

Terraria is fun too, like a 2D Minecraft with more adventure elements.

Titan Quest. Its a few years old. Not PC spec intensive. Has solid multiplayer. And if you get sick of playing the main game, there is a whole library of game mods with an active modding community to try out. Just make sure you both have the exact same version of the game installed. I'm looking into the Diablo 2 mod soon.

Torchlight 2.
It's pretty streamlined, easy to get into, with wildly different difficulty settings. (if you just want to have a good time there's casual all the way up to "You need to have certain skills of a certain level and must grind bosses for certain items" Elite, so you're sure to find something that suits you)

Just grab your friend, an mic and watch the hours melt away.

It's not too demanding in the graphics department either.

War Thunder.

Once you dot he tutorial you'll be sweet. Just jump in and start shootin' up other planes.

Also it's free to play, so yeah, won't cost yas anything.

Magicka, it's freaking hilarious in both story narrative and player made fuck ups. It also has a truly unique combat system that's easy to get the hang of, but after 30 hours of play there's still new combo's to discover. It has co-op for both story mode and a survival type arena style challenge mode.
It also has lot's of DLC, 3 of which have their own story.

+1 Magicka.

Really you won't regret it, it's by far the best game to play with friends. If you have 1 or 2 more friends wanting to play, it's even better.

Extra tip: using TeamSpeak or Raidcall will improve your online gaming experience with friends a lot.
