I used to be a HUGE WOw addict. I played that game mercilessly till I managed to grind my Blood Elf Paladin to level 70. But because of it I broke up with my Girlfriend and stopped talking to lots of my friends. Now I'm over Wow and looking back I have no idea what I liked about that game so much. Its not that great, quite mediocore. What were your experiences with this soul eating bastard?

Well, I am glad I was never mercilessly playing that old game. I had a well balanced social and academic life (4.0 natural GPA for the win, by the way.) It, however, took forever to get to 70. All I can really say is: I am GLaD(OS) I'm not you.

I still play WoW, and it never pulled me in that far. I just play for a few hours a day, while still doing homework/talking with friends/ etc.

Excuse me: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

Please people, WoW is only addictive if you let it be. It's not the games fault it's your faul if you get addicted to a game

And on that note RAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

(Raaagh= nerd rage)

Edit: I've never had any experiences with a bad, soul stealing game I am however in the midst of playing a very nice and enjoyable game that also has the acronym WoW, kwinky-dink eh?

I didn't see the light of day for about a year and a half, but then I dropped it and started hanging out with my friends and I've never been happier.

The game is great. I stopped playing because I was sick of having to cater to guilds for decent groups on the final raids. That, and everyone was pretty much a douche (was on 2nd best guild on server; enormous pressure usually). I just noticed I enjoyed my "me" time in the game a lot more than the terrible, terrible moments in a raid. I played a lot, about 7-8 hours a day, had little sleep, and while I can't say I was a shining beacon of good grades and social relationships (never have been anyways), they didn't suffer much. So I went back to console gaming, quicker and a lot less group-dependant (unless you count Team DMs in certain games, but you'll never get much teamwork out of it anyways).
I'll prolly get back to the game when the next expasion arrives, but I'm not so sure I'll continue playing after I get my favorite characters (DK, Rogue, Mage and the next hero class!) to level 90.

I play WoW, I got my character to level 80 without grinding to the point of intraversion. It took me over a year to hit 80.

I play maybe one, two hours a day - if that. I might play four days a week. I enjoy it but I play it like every other game I have. I have 100s of other interests so it never comes close to consuming me so much.

Honestly everyone makes it out to be so evil. But i play it on and off still and love it.
If you can't balance being really into a certain game and living a real life, then its not the games fault.

Sure i have spent a weeks holiday just playing WoW, and not spoken to my friends or anyone else pretty much.

Plus, real life is overrated anyway.

I think balancing game playing and real life is the key to enjoying a MMORPG like WoW.

I know I'm late to the game, but ninja'd.

I have a level 80. The game never interfered with my social life. If you don't want it to consume your life, it won't. End of story.

Now, stormcaller, what game is that?

I haven't had anything bad come from WoW. Unless meeting people from across the country and creating friendships that are stronger than those I have with people from my high school is bad. Oh, is meeting my girlfriend because of WoW bad too? If so, then yes, I have had an absolutely terrible time with this game and can't believe I haven't stopped playing it yet. I mean, why would I want to spend time playing a game I love with the people that I love?

I preaty much almost failed my second year of university because of it, well i say because of it, I;m a lazy bastard anyway so even without wow I probably would have been in a similar situation. However my girlfriend is a bigger wow fan than me (and harder working when it comes to uni) so we were still fine toggether. I also managed to see a decent amount of my friends too.

But when I moved to my current flat last summer, I was without internet for 3 months or so, so didn't play wow, and when I did get a connection just plain didn't start playing again and when my girlfriend moved into her current place she found it had a utterly terible connection so there was no point even trying to play it. Looking back I realise it was rediculus the sheer amount of time I would spend on that game (usually at least 5 hours minimum everyday and most days more.) But I did fully enjoy the time I spent on it.

Lately my GFs managed to start playing again and I've really wanted to start playing again too, but I'm going to do the smart thing (for once) and wait for a month until all my uni works in and I've sorted myself out a job. Then we'll see.

Played wow for more than a year, Only reason I didnt lose my friends was THEY played wow, main reason IO didnt stop is it would be hard explianing it to them, and I thought my guild (Which I had been part of since I joined, And I was third in command, and It had 450 people in it..) Would be horrified if I left, as I knew most of the members very well (still in Contact with a few via skype and MSN) Not surprised to learn they made it quite hard to leave 'nooo dont go' etc...Came back about a month later, almost everyone had left the guild, the most of the others were either soulless zombies or just never came on, O' how the Mighty Fall. these Days I pass time scouring the internet and playing xbox (In between Tennis, rugby and School,)

To me the game is all about the social side. I enjoy the banter my guild has while running heroics etc, plus I also have the benefit that 4 friends of mine play on the same server as me. However real life things will alwasy take top priority, which kinda shows in the achievements, how I haven't done many raids at 80

I was not obsessed with it, and I don't play it any more. I need to buy more time. When I did play the game, I went outside when my friends knocked. One time as I was riding one of those flying beast for the alliance. However, a kid I want to kill says I'm obsessed with it because a joke I made during a English project I did.

Used to be a WoW addict, stopped playing for more than two years and returned.

When I first played, I wanted to get to 60, but I always got bored around level 24. After a few months, I made a hunter and got it to 40 before I quit because I wanted to skip school to level my character.

Three months ago, a friend convinced me to reactivate my old account and start a character on his server. I bought burning Crusade, three months playtime and made a Draenei Paladin.
The first week I went a bit crazy with the game, playing way too much but not as much as two years earlier. I spent two months to get to level 70, and started my rep farm for a Talbuk mount [http://i43.tinypic.com/9rlpqv.jpg].

I'm currently out of gametime, and a month without WoW. I don't really care I'm without WoW and in a month I might not even reactivate my account.

Simply put its not worth it. Its better to buy a good offline game and hook yourself onto that than spend an eternity in a virtual world.

i was addicted once upon a time. but then i realized that people like dragging drama into the friggin game. i went from guild to guild trying to look for people who just wanted to play worry free. but the gods said nay. and i was disappointed. i'm a big RPG and MMORPG fan but i cant take other people's drama.
