So, reflecting upon the bastardization that Sierra has done to everyone's favourite marsupial, what are your favourite Crash Bandicoot games?

I have fond memories of the original Crash trilogy on the PlayStation 1, with its graphics, cartoonish visual style and level variety. I found the first one to be both the hardest and the largest out of the three, and while it had somewhat imprecise control which the sequels improved on, there was always something special about it. Even just Crash's movements, kill animation, the whole jungle theme, and the soundtrack. The second one had, as aforementioned, tighter control, but also new moves, and you could now save more frequently and the bonus stages had changed. The third one was the best, IMO, which added even more moves, time travel, etc. Overall, a brilliant trilogy.

Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash were great. The GBA games (XS and N-Tranced) were pretty good as well. I recall that the short time I played The Wrath of Cortex until I got stuck was OK, although it didn't have the spark of the PS1 games.

I could probably say more, but I'm a bit tired, so I'm sure others would like to share their thoughts?

The original trilogy was brillaint, platforming goodness.

Fuck, now I went and made myself sad. I need to go buy those three games on PSN.

Opinions?

Opinions?

Crash Bandicoot was like 60% of my childhood, it made me a man! Not to mention introducing me to video games.

And Cortex's music in Crash Bandicoot is still my favourite boss music...

Crash Team Racing is tied with Jak X as my favourite racing game, Crash Bash was both fun and frustrating and Crash Bandicoot 3 has the best start up of any game ever!

Crash Bandicoot 2 also holds the dubious honor of making me rage m ore than any other game...but I still love it.

As for the post-PS1 Crash:

Crash Nitro Kart was the first PS2 game I ever played but was basically just CTR with better graphics and less fun in every single way.
Wrathhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh of Cortex was good.
Twinsanity was fun (don't shoot me!)

Everything else I played, especially Radical's games, I didn't like.

Also, this is obligatory...
What do you think he says?

Dude . The original was great .. The trilogy was awsome and this is probably due to nostalgia but i too have fond memories of the first game . Never was a game to challenging and fun . I remember back then i didn't have internet , so me and my dad were writing down , what stages needed what gems and where to get all the boxes . Man the road to nothingness is the most awsome idea EVER . Going backwards at the start of stages to get hidden boxes . And don't forget speeding through the dark stages when your light was getting dim .

The original Crash trilogy was a cornerstone of my childhood gaming, alongside Spyro, Worms and Final Fantasy. Those 3 games brought me so many hours of awesome platformy goodness. I remember enjoying Crash Team Racing and Crash Bash quite a bit as well - for a kart game and a party game, I thought they were pretty good examples of how to do those types of spin-offs well.

It's a shame Crash died after the end of the PlayStation One though. Sad times :(

The original Naughty Dog games were amazing and Crash 3 is actually my favourite all time game. The new ones are shit though. Crash of the Titans? Fuck that noise.

Not entirely serious, maybe.

I remember the trilogy fondly. Crash Bandicoot 1 was my first PS1 game, and one of my favs.

I got it pretty recently on PSN, and was surprised by how good it still looks. It doesn't have the same pixelated eyesore appearance of other PS1 titles at the time. It was impressive getting to see a 3d platformer using different camera angles to change the way a stage has to be played.

I got all the jewels, beat all the bonus levels, found the keys, and got the "hidden" ending. But I also remember the frustration, as I got frustrated at the same parts more than a decade later.

Native fortress? Almost made it to the top aaaaand.... fell back down. Spend 5 minutes getting back to the top. Falling again. And again. and again. and again.

Sunset Vista? Lizards and bats everywhere. Lost track of how many times I get shoved off the level by those damned blocks.

Toxic waste? Lost 30 lives to those fucking bouncing barrels. This level almost drove me insane.

Also, whenever I hear this theme, I start to cringe:

Fuck this fucking level.

The super long endurance levels (Sunset Vista, Native Fortress) are the ones that tended to piss me off the most. Yet Toxic Waste, a pretty short level, managed to relieve me of 30 GODDAMNED LIVES.

Anyway, while playing through it again, I was surprised by how much more I sucked at the game as a full grown adult, while I remember being pretty good at it as a kid. Maybe it's the outdated format and checkpoint system. But playing through it again really rustled my jimmies.

Without the the help of things like the Crash tornado or the Wumpazooka, Crash 1 was the hardest for sure.

Add Cortex Power (so...much...backtracking!) to that list and we have the most annoying levels to get all boxes without dying.

No Whole Hog/Wild Hog [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpevyPrwIio] music?

I am disappointed.

The four PSX titles are all gems (get it?). Points to Crash Bandicoot 3 for the variation.

OP has pretty much summed up my opinion. Original trilogy = amazing. The two PS1 spinoffs also great. GBA games good if a little uninspired. The rest aren't worth looking at; they aren't really "Crash Bandicoot" anymore.

Crash Twinsanity was my favorite, mostly because of the humor and the outstanding soundtrack by Spiralmouth.

I'm one of the few people who loved Crash Tag Team Racing.
I used to...But my mum used to beat me all the time :(

I love Crash Bandicoot. Seriously I adore that series so much and I used to watch my mum play it as well. We can still talk about it now for ages. My favourite was Crash Bandicoot 2. It was the first Crash game I picked up. :)

Crash 3: Warped is one of my favourite games of all time, and the original and 2 are also both very good games.

Wrath of Cortez and Twinsanity are ok, but not up to the standards of the PS1 games.

I haven't played many of the newest ones, but Mind Over Mutant is just plain crap.

Ehhhhhhh...I don't have the highest opinion of Crash Bandicoot. I always found N64 platformers (Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, DK 64) and the Spyro games far more fun to play.

So I've just played through the original Crash Bandicoot for the first time in more than ten years.

For a PS1 game, it has aged beautifully, I mean, apart from the lack of analog control, it's still a solid 3D platformer.

I fucking blitzed it.

Looks like I've gotten better as a gamer since those early days :D
