Well Crash along with Spyro really helped to define the modern platformer, I think they will always hold a considerable degree of prestige, even if they're not as instantly recognizable as Mario for example.

My favourite Crash game was probably Crash 2 followed closely by Crash 1. Crash Bandicoot 3 was a good game, but I really hated all the specialty levels. The controls were awkward in underwater levels, and downright wretched in the flying/boating levels, the biking levels also felt gimmicky and mediocre in design.

These days Crash doesn't enjoy a lot of modern popularity, mostly since the series was carried by Naughty Dog, when Naughty Dog put the series up for adoption, it just went downhill. Just like Insomniac with Spyro.

Going a little off topic, contrary to the popular opinion, I think Spyro 1 was superior to 2 & 3. I had trouble calling Ripto's Rage and Year of the Dragon platformers since there was very little platform jumping required, and when there was your way forward was always very obvious. They seemed to rely on mini-games for content rather than the genre's core gameplay. Nothing was really even challenging about the mini-games either.

In Spyro 1 the challenge was from finding each and every secret in the levels. Many levels you really had to wrack your brains to figure out how to reach certain platforms. Like in the Tree Tops level where you had to do two sequential loops around the supercharge track to get the airtime to reach this one distant island. You really had to struggle to figure that out.
The first Spyro was my favourite of the 3 as well.

It just had this charm that the later games lacked.

I can't put my finger on it though...

....ok, right now I feel like I'm the only person in the world who actually properly knows about the history of what happened to the developers/publishers of the series, so I'll just point you over here [http://crashmania.net/?page=aboutdevelopers1]. Also, I just want to say that I have actually played Titans and MOM and they aren't anyway near as shit as everyone makes them out to be. Shocking, I know.

I really liked the second one. It was one of the first games I really got into, them my psone broke. Sad times. We got a N64 after that and I got to grow up on Goldeneye and Parer Mario, so all good.

The original trilogy and Crash Bash accounts for about 40% of my childhood between them. So my opinion on them is pretty damn high.

Then i played a demo of the first PS2 installment, and i wasnt impressed. And my opinion of everything after that has been pretty damn low.

Well of course, Crash was great for his first 3 games, and a couple of others, but past that it started downhill.

I still can't get over the box art for Crash: Mind over Mutant. You can tell he's only pretending to enjoy himself, after his career has gone down the pan.

HIS EYES. THEY PRAY FOR DEATH.

Not really a huge Crash fan to be fair but there was one Crash game that was absolutely brilliant and still stands as the best game ever made in its very specific sub genre and that is Crash Team Racing. Whenever we get chance myself and a few friends still have tournaments playing it now (and a few beers ofc) just brilliantly designed and great fun, the pinnacle of all karting games.

As for the karting sequels (sorta sequels) well they should be erased from existence they were terrible such a let down even if they were made by different people.

Oh I nostalgia'd all over my screen! I love the original Crash Bandicoot on the PS1 - Crash Bandicoot, Wrath of Cortex, Warped, Tag Team Racing, Crash Bash ... good times, good times. Along with Spyro, these are probably my favorite platformers.

Best game ... hmmm ... I would have to say Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. N-Gin's space mecha boss fight was, and still is, one of the coolest thing ever.

I don't remeber the names but one was a free roam race game and another normal one(both on ps2)

Hey, now. My favorite Crash game came from Sierra: Crash Twinsanity. That was awesome. The music could get really annoying, though. Crash Tag-Team Racing was also really nice. Activision certainly screwed things up with Mind over Mutant, copying Crash of the Titans, like... why?

The earlier titles were rather small and simplistic. I really rather liked the ones that Sierra made. But, seriously... Spyro has it far worse.

High Five.

I liked all the racing games, and Crash Bash. I have actually barely played any of the proper games.
I will now try to dodge the rotten tomatoes as I proclaim that I own Crash of the Titans, and it's pretty good, just not very platformy.

Eh, they were all pretty decent, but nothing fantastic.

I dunno, just wasn't a fan. 2 was the best of all of the games, though.
