That being said, in my personal taste, hardcore violinists are exceptional at captivating an audience where only the most daring Trumpets go.
For real. There's a violinist here who plays Jimi Hendrix covers.

On Topic: Yes, I have. I got paid too. 'Twas sweet. I play sax, so I usually do more of a jazz thing, but it was pretty fun.

Also, off topic: Saxes can be WAY louder than trumpets. We're just too lazy to exert ourselves.
o-o wow. I guess something about the instruments transfers to its player. I've heard the exact same excuse from our Saxes. Seems Trumpets are egotistical and Saxes are lazy. Are the Tubas you know jolly, fun loving, and with a (sometimes twisted) sense of humor?
I'm pretty sure the instrument chooses the player.

And yes! Tuba players are like that.

Are all the bass clarinet players you know kind of ...weird?

...Weird is about all one can describe them as, in their own little world or something.

I wasn't a part of what would actually be considered a full orchestra, but I have played an instrument for my school's concert band. The only reason I don't classify it as an orchestra was due to the fact that we didn't have any string instruments in there, and since they are usually an integral part of an orchestra, I can't really count it.

I played mainly woodwind instruments. For four years, I played B-flat clarinet, and the last year, I moved to play Bass Clarinet.
...yeah, I never left the clarinet, but it was still fun playing it.

One memory of me playing still sticks in my mind to this day. One time in middle school, we (as in, the concert band) were to play in our school's annual Fish Fry(fund raiser). Our band was, well, not exactly the most formal of the bunch that was scheduled to play. In fact, the last song in our repertoire for the night was none other than a concert band edition of Bohemian Rhapsody.

That's right, the song by Queen.

One of our best saxophonists volunteered to be the conductor, with a special coat jacket that said, "Long live Bohemia", and our band director was playing the guitar in that piece. There was even a drum set used, which usually isn't put in our band. Everyone involved was having a great time.

Yeah. Ever wonder why that is?
I often wonder what stems the quirky personality types of fellow instrument players.
Do you know any of the secrets?

I have a couple theories.
Theory 1) You listen to pros who play your instrument, to get better. Each instrument has a definitive sound, so as you hear that sound more and more, it kind of gets inside you.

Theory 2) Each instrument is made out of different materials, and being in close contact with said materials for such a long period of time affects your personality.

They're both equally crazy.

You may have something there.
I like Theory 1. Unless I have a rare resistance to the materials of a trumpet( xD ) I was never egotistical as the rest of the brass. Despite playing for 7 years.

Don't worry, eventually your brain will be effected by the magical nature of Brass :)

Ever been a part of one?

I just finished my third year of Youth Orchestra here in Canada and I've really enjoyed it. I will probably try to join another orchestra later in life.

All the inter-orchestra rivalries aside,[footnote]FYI, the Brass section is still the most important part of the orchestra... [small][sub][sub]Did I just start a flamewar? Well agree with me even if you deny the truth so we can act civilly in my thread :p[/sub][/sub][/small][/footnote]we all are kind of comrades at the end of the season, right?

Feel free to post your favorite memory for the viewing pleasure of Orchestra players and viewers alike.

My favorite memory? Totally getting told to play quieter after the Viola's in front of our section complained to the conductor... We weren't even playing loud! Still makes me laugh when my fellow trumpet players and I relive the scene. Also fun was playing Mao with the brass section while waiting to perform for our final concert.

What, a list of things for you to discuss? Okay here it is.:

A)Have you ever been a part of an orchestra?

B)What side are you on instrument did you play?

and

C)What is your favorite memory?

Making music with friends is made of WIN, is it not? XD I love orchestra.
Ah, a fellow fan of the orchestra :)

A) Yes, although I stop a few months ago

B)I played Flute

C) Best memory...

Playing a short solo in front of a few hundred people was kinda cool (shit scary but cool)

ummmm

That or when me and a few guys from the brass section went out and "got merry" after a end of session performance.
