Q: One of the things that Steam does is this random deep-discounting of software, and it works well for them. Do you see that as something you want to do?

David DeMartini: We won't be doing that. Obviously they think it's the right thing to do after a certain amount of time. I just think it cheapens your intellectual property. I know both sides of it, I understand it. If you want to sell a whole bunch of units, that is certainly a way to do that, to sell a whole bunch of stuff at a low price. The gamemakers work incredibly hard to make this intellectual property, and we're not trying to be Target. We're trying to be Nordstrom. When I say that, I mean good value - we're trying to give you a fair price point, and occasionally there will be things that are on sale you could look for a discount, just don't look for 75 percent off going-out-of-business sales.
Oh EA, you so funny!
Thank you EA for your input of logic that could kill a Vulcan. It's absurdity, he talks as if somehow there's a quality difference in a game that's priced cheaply on Steam and overpriced on Origin. These aren't purses or shoes, they're digital code, you're not buying a convincing knock off of Bio-Shock if you snag it for %50 off on Steam as opposed to full retail price on Origin. If anything you're getting more bang for your buck from Steam because it doesn't have the dead weight of Origin dragging it down.

EA runs Origin like a bunch of idiots. I can't wait to watch it go down in fucking flames when they cut it to save their dumb asses from bankruptcy. Then they'll go crawling back to Valve while feeding the public some shit sob story about how the mean ol'pirates are driving them out of business. I hope that when they lay off the poor bastards having to maintain Origin that one of them takes a shit in every single executive's cars and slashes their tires.

You know who EA needs working for them right now? This man:
Because the cleansing fire brought forth by invoking the wrath of Milton Waddams is the only way to fix EA.

-EDIT-
Oh what's that EA? Sorry I can't hear you from underneath the mountain of games I've gotten dirt cheap from Steam and GOG.

And the funny thing is that a week or two after this was said, Origin had a sale. And if I'm not mistaken, they have had a sale or two even before that.

Yes, you aren't getting a knock off, but the devs do get less money, since they just get a percentage of the sale price. And I do think it's an awful strategy employed by Steam - they are trying to starve the people who reated the game, after all of one person would buy it for full price, probably 3 would buy it if it's 50% off. It's just horrible...wait

Oh boy Sims 3 in it's entirety for 200+ dollars vs Just Cause 2 for $3 or Arkam City GotY for 7.50
Or Borderlands 2 and it's DLC for 20 total. ...Wait tell me Ultimate Dragon Age is cheaper on Steam, ohhh the comedy...

Oh how typically cynical of you all. Maybe if you hadn't been so busy jumping on the EA Hate bandwagon, you'd have noticed they have Fifa Manager 2009 on sale for £4.99.

So yeah, enjoy your little jokes, guys, I'm off to take Bolton to the cup. The 2009 cup.

(Disclaimer: I do not know if Bolton have a football team and, if so, what cup they would be winning. I don't even know if you win cups when playing the soc-soc; maybe they just have a nice shield or something.)

I can't tell the difference between eas discounted prices and normal prices.

Heck hang on, why are most of these games more expensive then if i bought them in store? Did Ea misunderstand the meaning of sales and actually marked them up?

Oh EA, you so funny!
And people wonder why so many of us are so much against allowing Microsoft to force content into digital only on consoles

I cant see any sales on the page you linked (at least in the uk). In fact all I can see is the price rises they are adding to all their new games in the UK - "Battlefield 4 : £55 ($83)", "Fifa 14 Ultimate Edition: £50 ($75)", "Sim City: £45 ($68)". Virtually everything else is still at full price for PC games of £30 or more including the Sims 3. I guess I will just go back to playing the infinity number of games I have managed to grab in the Steam sale.

what sort of prices are they showing? it doesnt come up on mine and australian origin isnt having any sales
That's one of the things I hate about it. Sometimes they do have nice sales or vouchers, but these tend to be available only for US/Canada.

I don't see the point in Origin trying to match Steam in holding a huge sale. Steam has the majority of the floor, it's not point trying to outshine them.
Imagine Battlefield 3 with a deep discount. The entire Sims library at a deep discount. All of the EA games that aren't available on steam with prices competing with some of Valve's games. I'm sure you would have a respectable amount of people downloading Origin to pick up the games. I'm sure I'd spend money on at least BF3 or the mass effect series if it was a good deal.
Also that damn The Sub ad is blocking half of my screen and I'm having trouble even typing this. SOMEONE HELP ME!

Not surprising, though I hoped the title was Origin fires all of its staff members, proclaims itself to be a much crapper version of steam made solely for DRM purchases and vows to never make anything else other then fund a proper plants vs. zombies sequel. Tbh thought, I never really thought of them as competition to steam , they aren't even a drop in the ocean in comparison.

Look at it this way: if you count each DLC and expansion pack as its own game, the Origin sale is just as big as the Steam sale :p

Aside from the "everything is free" slip-up they had a few months ago, I can't think of a single sale where EA's beaten the prices of their competitors.

Mine doesn't really even seem to be doing any sale stuff. There is a daily deal and that's it.
edit: oh it seems to just be the sims.

I would actually buy the sims 3, except considering that even now they sell everything at the same 50 bucks per expansion plus the basegame and whatever the smaller content packs cost..on steam, the basegame and everything else included is like 600 Euro. Yeah funny shit that, even reduced by half, thats 300 bucks anyways.

Also i bought Sims 2 with everything not so long ago for 90 Euro, basegame and all 8 expansion packs. For 90 bucks. 10 Euro each. And its the same bloody content anyways! Sims 3 University? Same shit as Sims 2 University anyways. In fact its even less stuff because they cut half of the shit to sell extra later.

Basicly, if you want The Sims, buy Sims 2 with expansions and have fun >_>
