In the Warhammer 40.000 tabletop wargame there are Orkz. In their language, words can have different meaning depending on context. The words "grub" and "nar" when combined to form a characters name, in this case that of my Warboss, mean "cunning commander".

Im a bit of a Blood Axe bastard!

Gamertag and from there. I'm not too sure, I just put anything random in while listening to my iPod. Switched my gamertag to hsoJosh though

It isn't a Penny Arcade reference. It's from a long-lost D&D spoof that did the rounds on my high school network some years ago. It was the first thing that came to mind when I picked the username for my first forum account in 2000. I added "theveryreal" when I joined the Escapist because it was taken.

Eh, my name is Jay, and I've been a Lovecraft fan since I was knee-high to a canetoad. Wish I had more of a story.

When I started this thread I had no idea that it would get so many responses and it is interesting to see how people came up with their usernames from making it at 2 in the morning to putting a lot of thought into it.

Ok, this is going to be long...

Skyler - My name is Kyle Spence. When I was 14 a douchebag school photographer who happened to be the father of a long time friend called me Skyle Pence in front of my entire year on photo day and thanks to another douchebag in my year Skyle became my new nickname (I like the word douchebag). 12 years later Heroes came out and the aforementioned douchebag realized that I had dark hair like Zachery Quinto and thus Skyler was born.

Rock- I own a pet scorpion. My friends (including the aforementioned douchebag) getting bored with the usual banter of gay jokes decided that I like to shag scorpions, I don't believe that I was quite able to explain how it wasn't physically possible. Anyhoo, a tv series 'Peep Show' (a pisstake on a hard hitting investigative journalism series) did a special on Paedophilia (it's a very funny episode) and in one scene it shows a paedophile disguised as a school. My friends decided that I like to disguise myself as a rock to sneak up on juvenile scorpions, hence Rock became a secondary nickname.

Combine the two- SkylerRock
If you didn't like the people who gave you your nicknames, why did you make their suggestions your username?

I use 2 names depending where I am. I'm either some version of jthm (a particularly good comic) or Yonsan (a nick name I earned at my job selling video games that is based on my last name).

It's a combination of Kai and Rai from the Old Beyblade series. I've been using this name for years, and oddly enough, I wasn't too into the Beyblade series.

I think I just like the names.

Uh, on an episodes of Sabrina the teeage witch(forgive me, I was young) some dude had taken the first letters of every chapter of a book and put them together, the formed "My enemy walks in green shoes". I wanted to be that enemy.

I needed a name for my character on Planetside, so I took one of my favorite novel characters- a drow by the name of Jarlaxl- and replaced the J with a K. It sorta became my new all around user name tag thing, and eventually I removed the l on the end, and sometimes include the extra x.

Most of my names are either plays on novels or just randomizations.

Interesting. By the way welcome to the escapist I just became active yesterday even though I made an account yesterday. I would give you the "welcome to the escapist speech", but I don't know it yet.

I like many other discovered this site after hearing about Zero Punctuation, and i waited a pretty long while before i signed up. At the moment, every Zero Punctuation video ended with the quote "fans are whining, complaining dippshits who'll never be satisfied by any concession you make...." and i had reached the level of Yahtzee fandom for it to affect the way i formed my sentences. therefore i became a fan of industrial-strength.

Back when I was 8-9 I wrote a short story about a knight named Sovvolf... and I've used the name as a user name and name for characters in video games ect ever since.. also when ever I play a video game I make my main character have the same appearance as Sovvolf too.

The name came to me though while playing everquest (Yes I was playing everquest at 9 years of age) There was a spell called Spirt of the wolf which was often abreviated into SoW... well one day I wanted to make a Paladine named Spirt of the wolf but that name was a little too long so I tried S(pirt)o(f)wolf= Sowolf... it wouldn't let me... so I cleverly put two v's down for the W making Sovvolf. I intended on using Sowolf another time but well people started calling me Sov so it just stuck and since fourth I have kept the name Sovvolf for my main and even made a back story for him it school as part of an English project (See above).

Gutterslime is part of a line in a GWAR song, slaught-o-rama, and it just kind of stuck, and my xbox gamertag is Peddlewinks, and if you want to know where that came from, do mushrooms and play spore, you'll make a peddlewinks

Nice, I love the zero punctuation videos. I think your username is funny though, I never would of thought of that.

The Jade Falcon clan was a side in, I believe, MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries. I loved the name, I loved their mechs and I loved their logo. Sadly, the game didn't work on XP.
