Origin seems to be improving as a service, although it still has a long way to go to reach Steam's level. Of course for me that is not why I don't use the service.
I just don't trust EA enough to buy digital content from them. Truth be told I pretty much avoid any EA product at all, although not religiously, so Origin is just a no go for me. Much like uPlay, which is by the one company I trust less than EA, Ubisoft.

Ea titles interesting... Oh they must be played on origin. Well FUCK THIS!
Seriously I try to like EA but origin, Finnish law and my computer do not like each other. The ToS are still breaking major customer laws in Finland.

Oh EA your silly, your devalue-ing..... your IP's.

Its nice i guess to see EA doing something cool, i guess but. I hate EA. And im still feeling dirty after getting BF3 and having to install Origin for that, and ive uninstall both a year ago now. PASS

The last time EA went all Good-Will Good Guys on us was 2007-2008. We got some pretty good games out of it too.

*Opens Origin*

Nope. The Origin store is still in Japanese, despite my settings having the interface set to English. Guess I won't be buying anything on Origin today.
Check your computer's language settings. If that's happening, the problem is usually in there.
Negative. My computer settings are fine. My OS is set for English; my Origin preferences are set for English. Every other program on my computer runs in English. The Origin game library shows up in English. The only thing that isn't available in English is the Origin store.

This isn't a settings issue. This is EA assuming that everyone in the Japan region is Japanese and ignoring the settings in their own program that might let them know otherwise.

AS nice as this is origin will not be a real contender to steam until it has the same 3rd party catalog as steam has then there will be some genuine competition and things will generally be better for everyone. Also give me a way to list my games EA how will i find what i want when i have 250+ games on there as i have on steam.

When i go to origins site I see a big ad and orange button that says "new origin strore" and "shop now"
when i click it it loads the same page again, with the same ad. Am i missing something?
Also, chrome is now stuck constantly reloading the origin store without showing anything

It's nice to see EA learning to be better digital distributors from their competition, although I would prefer they hadn't run a scorched earth campaign of pulling their main properties from competitor stores to force use of their platform. So far I have only bothered with Origin-exclusive titles and prefer Steam for any games that are available there. But I don't hold EA in the absolute contempt that some seem to. After all, what is the real difference between buying an EA title from Origin versus another digital distributor. Both have the ability to invalidate all your purchases by killing your account.

So I just took a quick look at this sale and found something not quite thought out. Simcity digital deluxe is $44.99, Simcity is $39.99 and Simcity digital deluxe upgrade is $10. Buying the regular version then the upgrade is cheaper than just grabbing the digital deluxe version straight off. I'm glad Origin is starting to do stuff like this but it doesn't seem like they put a lot of work into it.

I believe it's somewhat poor character to demand that one (even a company) change their image, values, and the way they treat people, only to act apprehensive and hostile as those changes are wholeheartedly being made (fire Riccitello, banish Project $10, make sequels to games you were begging for, sell over $200 in games through a bundle for as low as $1 and donate millions to charity while offering Steam keys alongside their own service, put over 60 of their own and other's games on sale). The "Fuck EA" train was fun and we got 2 poo awards out of it, but I'm seeing genuine change, even if it is just for good PR they're the right things.

And there's more games on sale than the ones mentioned in the OP, I got the Mass Effect trilogy for $20 and Dead Space 2 for 7, rounding out that trilogy from the bundle. And I never in a million years thought that Origin would be touching my computer. Apologies if I sound like I'm on some high horse here, just wanting to make a point.

Origin is still spyware. Games for cheap on Origin is still games (albeit cheap) attached to spyware.

And EA will still arbitrarily close down your account (no refunds) if they feel grumpy that day and take notice of you. This is why so many people create a separate account for each Origin game they play, so that they only lose one game at a time.

So no. Even though I might have had hopes for Sims 4, I will not play it. Why? Origin.

No sale, EA.

SHHHHH!!!! The EA support team will come get your post!! I agree that I trust EA's terrible EULA and Origin about as far as I could throw a sumo. At my current count based upon what I have seen in the forums, we have either 3 people who are in absolute love with EA, or work for the social media department at EA. I am not talking about they love it I mean they have crossed over into, "my boyfriend knocked all my teeth out so I will not smile at other guys but he still cares about me" kind of love. EA could go to their house and set their couch on fire and they would still buy EA software while it was burning. They screw up every once in a while and start offering tech support for Origin, old habits must die hard.

Put these games on Steam and I may consider a select couple. I do not need another Steam-like program on my system, I already deal with uPlay solely when I fire up Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon.

Ah, in that case, have a look at your "Locale" settings.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-vista/change-the-system-locale

Some programs will call character sets directly from the Locale. If that doesn't solve it, then look to EA technical support.
...okay. I appreciate your attempt at being helpful. Really, I do. But you don't seem to be listening(or reading, or whatever). I've already checked all that stuff. And if any of that was the problem, I wouldn't be experiencing this issue with one half of one program. This is an issue with the way that EA deals with different regions and nothing more.

My guess is that the Origin store in the program simply pulls content from the site, which would cause it to bypass my settings. The only ways this could be solved would be to go through a proxy or VPN(which I am loathe to do when it comes to submitting any kind of secure information like payment) or for EA to alter their site to allow region or language changes, which they are unlikely to do anytime soon.

Oh boy, this again. You do realize that the default installation that I put on my laptop a week ago doesn't default the "Send information" or "Scan Computer" at all, right?

And you do realize that it doesn't have a service that perpetually runs in the background like Steam, right?

And you do realize that the information that it (now doesn't) collect if you select it to save your game info is the same as Steam, right?

Is Steam spyware too? It sure as heck used to be. In fact, it used to be worse than Origin. MUCH worse. Companies learn, grow, and change.

Some people just won't let go...
