Steam, EA has made too many enemies, sadly, and can't give me the wide selections of games I wish to purchase.

Sorry EA, but you're not really good at that sort of thing.

Any one who says Origin works for E.A.

Seriously Steam is the only place you can get PC VALVE games, have you owned one of those? Its pretty great.

At the moment I have no real problem with origin. It is just a downloader and apparently doesn't need to be running to run games downloaded from it. If it stays that way then its just like the Amazon digital distribution service, another place to check for good prices and you can get the steam overlay regardless.

If EA makes it an always on client I will be annoyed.

I will be wherever the lowest price is :p
Steam then, in the UK at least Crysis 2 is £5 more expensive on Origin. They don't stand a chance really. Their stuff on Origin is more expensive than it is/was on Steam (and physical retail for some reason) and they don't have anywhere near the userbase.

I expect to see all EA's games back on Steam before the end of the year.

Apparently in some regions (Eastern Europe) Origin is somewhat cheaper then Steam. The real question though is what kind of sales will we get.

They have, as far as I know, all EA titles has been pulled from the store, the games you already own are still oyur on steam, but Steam isn't allowed to sell any more EA games there.

So I guess they arn't as much as "filling a niece" as "Making one that they then can fill themselves"

But I feel the same, I got around 130 games or so on Steam, and leaving to, what to me seems like an inferier system with not even 1 10th of the games, steam has to offer. Oh well.
Erm, what? http://store.steampowered.com/app/24960/?snr=1_4_4__13

AFAICS they're all still up there.

Unless EA pulls some srs offers out, they wont beat Steam.. At all.. Steam has loads of games, and each day multiple are on sale, Origin only has EA games (so far), so the diversity is also smaller thar.

Why would I bother changing to what I assume is a more restrictive and expensive service?

Well, if they're not gonna be selling EA games on Steam anymore, then I guess I won't be buying EA games anymore.

I won't be using Origin. Why? EA, that's why. Don't get me wrong, I love a ton of the games EA publish, but I hate EA with a passion, so they ain't getting any of my money. Second hand games for me, ta very much.

or does it just fill a niece in the Digital distribution market?
A niece? No, I don't think it'll fill a niece. A niche maybe, but not a niece. :p /friendly rib

Will Origin have insane 75% discounts every few weeks? If so, i might switch over to Origin, but Valve has a lot more good-will left in me, and are making an effort of continue that trend. Unlike EA *cough*Crysis2*cough*.

The existence of this thread confirms my concerns when I first heard about Origin. It's like "Playstation or Xbox?" all over again except on the PC. Admittedly the client only costs me disk space and memory as opposed to physical space and money, but the principle of them trying to lure you into their secret club to make money off you just bugs me. So for future convenience I downloaded X-fire and from now on I'll buy stuff retail if I can. If you want a community tool it shouldn't really be affiliated with any one game developer or publisher.

Tl;dr: I hate exclusives.

Not even hard to choose Steam, most complete service out there if they now only could ban all other DRM schemes from Steam....

But I'm not completely against Orgin since you need new ones to compete and innovate and well I got battlefield 2 (old game I know) but I couldn't stay in multiplayer-games problem? punkbuster and steam overlay UI didn't like each-other (just disabled the overlay but still)...
Although I am really worried EA's gonna pull launch titles from Steam, D2D and the rest, for their own platform for a stupid high price... That would be really annoying, even though i rarely buy new titles I prefer waiting for the sale...

And I still think you shouldn't have to pay full hard-copy retail price for the online version (a bit of-topic)

Ha! Give money to EA? Willingly?

No way.

Hell, I would buy retail just to keep as much of my money as possible away from EA.

Besides, Origin's Australian prices are bloody ridiculous. I checked them for Alice: Madness Returns. $80AUD. it's cheaper to import the damn thing via Amazon. Oh, and the Origin US price for the same game? $45.

Yeah...

Fuck you, EA.

Err yeah, EA marketplace, anyone remember that? Oh god it was horrible. There's no reason what so ever for me to use Origin, I don't want it cluttering up my PC, I like Steam, and it's also my chat program, alongside it's super amazing awesome deals it has all the time.
