Only reason; Digitally download SWTOR. That's all I can think off.
Steam > Origin and always will be.

Though it would be nice if I could play Doomrails, however steam customer support blames me for it not working.

Some how I think a Monopoly by Valve would be better, being that they have all these sales and community stuff and what not.
Until they really have driven off the competition. As others have said, they're nice because it is good business. When they control the market, they will set prices. It's nice to believe that they might be the one benevolent monopoly in history, but it almost certainly won't play out that way.

Not that I think EA are the people to do it.

I love origin, I've got the sims, crysis, and such for cheaper than steam, uses less ram, has a cleaner UI.

Coming from someone who just got into PC gaming 2 weeks ago all my purchases have been from gamersgate, direct2drive, and origin as they were cheaper than steam.

I think if anyone is going to start a digital distribution service, they should do something unique like GoG. Old games for very cheap prices. Now, I don't really know what other category there is to fill, but I'm sure they could think of something, rather than just selling games that they publish. That's boring, annoying, and might start a digital distribution war between publishers, meaning more programs running in the background.

I want my discs back...

Jeez do you guys really want Steam to have a monopoly on DD services. All I say is a little competition is a good thing.

So you think that Steam should be the only DD company in the world?

Wow.
Absolutely not, I just don't think they should be run by the companies that have too many business rivals to count and can't adequately get the smorgasbord of games like Steam or D2D can.
Well...they just started out...a little time my friend.
