Newly assigned to the city of Bedlam, a human/extra-terrestrial cohabitant city, Si is the first extra-treestrial to join the Bedlam Police Department. I had this exact same idea about two years ago. I scrapped the idea when I couldn't draw a good concept art. Everything else was about the same, except the sword and name. I had a reptile with an axe.

As for my own original character, I'd go for a normal guy who basically gets thrust into the action unwillingly. Perhaps someone who picks up a gun or a knife to defend themselves when the world is going to pot and ends up, with absolutely no special skills or training whatsoever, being thrust into action to fight for their survival and their country. So not like in L4D (after all, each of them has some skill they use to fight zombies, like Bill being an ex-soldier). But completely useless normally and simply forced to fight to save themselves.
