how about a survival horror game where you go to an abandoned insane assalym to get inspiration about a novel, come across a book that pretty much causes you go insane and you start seeing things that arn't real like monsters that come out of the wall, hullcinating voices, seeing dead people so then you must figure out why this is happening and why it happened when you ound the book

oh and it's in first person just because I feel that there can be some shocking things happened that can't happen in third person and plus I feel it can also help increase the atmosphere of the game if done right

i didn't say that i blamed it all on the consumer, However, should we not take a little bit of the blame, for sticking with the utterly generic and utterly safe? Of course people are going to want to play a big title generic game, some of which are good, but people have given the industry the view that we will only consume what we know and love, rather than taking a risk. that;s why a game like Bioshock, who was really kind of a generic simple puzzle solving shooter, got so much attention for being original, because it was so rare to find ideas that interesting and new in a game of that structure (even though many of the ideas had been borrowed).
Either way, for the sake of my future career and for the sake of other creative peoples, i hope that this trend shifts a little.
Games cost $60. I'm not about to 'take risks' with that kind of money. I'll buy what I know I'll like, thank you very much.
Firstly, not all games are sixty dollars. From what i have seen, it is mainly the really popular generic games that cost that kind of money. Secondly, I am no expert on economics, but i think the reason why game companies can charge that much is because people are willing to pay that much for the generic games, rather than spending half that on a original, lesser known games. Lower the demand for these clone games, and the price goes down. Thirdly,if you like buying games that are full of overused ideas that's fine, it just means you can't complain when the idea trough runs low. It is all personal preference.
