Originality in games... Not anymore

It's really hard to come up with original ideas that aren't too far-fetched. But I have this idea to combine platforming with first person shooting in which you can switch easily between the two for when it's necessary. Maybe I'll have to use that idea someday. If not me, then somebody.

Mmm... Idk what the game is called, but a trailer was just released for a game in which you are a space marine, who's responsible for saving a world from an impending infection... And it's all up to you.

I really just wanted to stop by and say that I agree... The most original game I've seen come out lately has been (contrary to alot of the ppl who hate nintendo and it's subsidiaries) "De Blob". Recently released on the Wii, I played this game prior to it's release at E 4 All and had a blast.

I think L4D is original in its gameplay, character design and its lack of storyline in favour of playability.
Far Cry 2, despite the fact that I was terribly disappointed, was original in environment and art direction.
Mirror's Edge was original in art direction and level design, shame the story and gameplay was retarded.
World of Goo, it's just the most odd game I've seen in ages.

I don't think there aren't original ideas out there, it's just the money isn't a sure return so the investment's not always there to make them.

I really thought Pokemon Ranger was a novel idea.

Granted, it's Pokemon, but it came off as fresh and new to me.

Halo 3: Space marines battle ugly aliens!

Resistance... Chronicles of Riddick... Dead Space... Lost planet...Quake 4... Unreal tournament... Space marines battle ugly aliens!!!!!

I bet there's a hidden level in LBP where sackboy dresses up as a space marine and battles ugly aliens.
