Well there is that, there is also the incomprehensible plot, the slowest pacing imaginable, and the fact that there was no horror in this horror movie. There was just the concept of, "this little girl is a *****." That is the problem, there is nothing scary about this movie, it is just offensive and eventually frustrating.

The reason I could call this movie terrible and The Exorcist pure gold is because The Exorcist, although offensive, tells an amazing story with scenes of horror that are still chilling today. This movie just beats nuns with hammers.

I have been waiting for the movie Orphan to come out. I was begging that it would be an at least half-way decent movie, thankfully Orphan was one of the best psychological horror movies I have seen in a while.
The has a back story is strange as it is clouded in dialog. As far as i can tell Kate Coleman, a former alcoholic with two children hoping to adopt a third, was passed out drunk as one of her children, Maxine Coleman a five year old with brain damage leaving her deaf, because of this she can read lips and knows sing language, falls through the frozen lake in front of there house giving her brain damage. After this her and her husband John Coleman, the husband of Kate and father of there two children, have one more child Daniel Coleman, a tween focused on his friends and refusing to learn sign language because he is embarrassed of his sister. Before all this however Kate has a miscarriage leaving them wanting another child. That other child is Ester, a strange Russian nine year old with a strange and clouded past. This is the one thing that i did not like about this movie, i really hate when the back story Isn't clear.
the story is odd John and Kate (possibly plus eight?) adopt Ester and try to raise her as well they can, however, when a child who made fun of Ester at school "slips" and breaks her ankle while she is around Kate starts to get suspicious and takes Ester to a therapist. All the sudden a few very bad things start to happen, the car gets put into neutral and starts to coast down hill with Maxine still in the car and Daniel is trapped in his tree house while it is set on fire, Kate becomes very suspicious however John still doesn't understand this even after its ..just...OBVIOUS! After doing some research on Ester, Kate finds that the orphanage she was raised in when she was in Russia doesn't even exist.
If you don't want to find out how the movie ends than don't read on
An orderly from the mental institution she was raised in (just... don't ask)says that she is not a nine year old girl at all
(sigh) She is in fact a 33 year old woman
At this point I just thought "Wow they just jumped over so many sharks."
As this is going on Ester is trying to seduce John (again...don't ask) while Kate rushes home. When she gets home she finds John dead and Ester looking for Maxine. A fight gets onto the ice with Maxine trailing behind. Ester drops a gun that Maxine picks up, while aiming for Ester she hits the ice, Kate and her fall through. Kate climbs through the hole she and Ester made, with Ester holding on to her leg saying "help me mommy"
with Kate replying "I'm not your fucking mommy!" and kicks her in the head causing her neck to break and die in the ice.
Over all i give this movie a 9/10 the only flaw being the back story.
Your writing sucks.
-Lack of spacing
-Run on sentences gone wild
-Sentence fragments
-Terrible flow
-Spelling and grammar mistakes
-You contradict yourself throughout the review. You negatively criticize the movie in many points, acknowledging the ridiculous plot devices and horrible story telling, and then saying that the lack of a good back story was its "only flaw."

On top of all of that this isn't even a review. It's a bad summary of what sounds like a terrible movie. Honestly, how could you think any of this was good? Either you're very young and "shock horror" is your delight, or you're into mindless "psychological horrors" as such, and when a nun beating horror fest was announced you jumped all over it.

I suppose it's in the eye of the beholder. The psychological aspect of the movie, as well as the pure maliciousness of Esther, alone contribute to a suspenseful movie.

The negative things you list as being bad have nothing to do with what makes a bad movie by definition. The fact that a horror movie is gross might even be considered a bonus for most fans. The fact that a nun is killed... how is that bad? They're wicked beings ;) Also, there is very little "Jump out and boo" in the movie. Perhaps 3 scenes, of which two of them happen where there is no suspense at all.

Try to put yourself in the shoes of the other kids. What would you think if your new sister smashed a pigeon with a rock stating "it's in heaven now" without as much as blinking?

Apart from that, I agree the plot summary was rather crappy. It certainly wasn't a review.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to see this one. When I saw the the ads, I couldn't help but think " Yeah, because real orphans don't have enough problems. They need people to worry that they're psychotic midgets too."

To be honest I used the list of negative things to gauge weather other people should see the movie or not. If you honestly look at that list and think, "whats the big deal?" Then by all means! See the movie and enjoy. But if you are like me and don't want to see a group of likable characters have their lives ruined, then my suggestion is to stay far away from this movie.

Maybe I want to watch a nun get bludgeoned to death with a hammer?
Just because something is offensive does not mean it's terrible. And, from what I saw from the trailer, the plot looked actually original, compared to "MICHAEL BAY'S 'SPLOSION CINEMA SIX!" and some of the other horrid summer releases that have come out so far. Hopefully I'll have a review for Inglourious Basterds when it comes out next Friday. Inglourious Basterds is my last best hope for summer movies...
If what you want to see is nuns getting killed with hammers then this is the movie for you! Added bonus, these nuns raise orphans!
No I totally agree, just because a movie is offensive, doesn't make it bad. That is exactly why I said The Exorcist is an amazing movie. But that's the thing, its not good because its offensive, its good because it is an excellent story.
But hey, that's just me, like I said above, if the list doesn't bother you then go spend the money to see it.
Also, I agree, I so cannot wait for Inglourious Basterds. But there have been good movies this summer, just none of them were mainstream. Thirst, for example. You just have to look harder to find them.
