So this pop up recently-

So it's basically a lantern/ large coffee machine contain a program virtual display of an anime girl. Ok it pretty much a gimmick given it's like other programs like let say Siri but given a 2d form. The whole turning the lights on is kinda cool but I wouldn't want to used it. Maybe if it was Cortana (Halo) level I would be more impressed but in saying so I don't exactly want proper AI anytime soon.

Here is another video more about it (haven't watched it full).

What do you think? Would you want one?

Wow that top video just made me really sad. I'm not gonna watch the second one, though, too much time. I would like to know more about it's functionality, though.

I did know about this already, the news did a little video about it talking about it as a "virtual wife" and saying it could help guys with social isolation. I honestly don't know how to feel about it.

Personally, I wouldn't want one, but then again I wouldn't need one, because I'm not isolated. I suppose if you're in that situation and you think it would help you, why not.

On an unrelated note, I do find it weird that almost all virtual assistants are presented as female. I wonder if they'll do a digital manbot too.
Alright dudes I get it.

I kinda want one... finally, a companion who won't have cohabitation issues brought about by my thermostat preferences!

Its the most depressing thing ever invented. Shooting yourself so that you get brain matter all over grandma holding the new baby while a puppy looks on, during the Holiday family party, seconds after the handsome boyfriend of your cousin asks her to marry him in-front of the tree is less depressing than a cyber girlfriend waifu.

It made me happy -- At least I'm not that guy... yet.

If I had to take a bet there's probably a digital husbando industry as well, it's just that it is not as laughable as "oh those virgin otakus" news articles.
I'd be pretty surprised, to be honest. And I was kinda also referring to other digital assistants that we have (Siri, Cortana, Amazon's new thing). A lot of them are voiced by women and given female names. I just think it's a bit weird.

This is basically Love Plus but more high tech and modern and you can't take it with you to vacation in places where unique wifi hotspots trigger unique events.

As for the hologram being female, I think it is because on average women have a less difficult time finding companionship than men, all things being equal. (looks, education, finances, etc.) Note that in Japan men are expected to pay for all things so if you are poor you just can't afford to date, period.

On the one hand; this may contribute towards a needed population prune. (Which is good btw, stop multiplying! As Paul Foot would say; invest in homosexuals!!) On the other?...HAH! Fucking hilarious. I'm sure this won't breed a rather disheartening subculture that circumvents social character growth.

Until he says something that is anything more than a glorified "I know you are you said you are so what am I?" ...there isn't any use in trying to be serious there unfortunately.

It'd take me a while to dig up the relevant research (since it is older and I'd have to look it up) but its' because in every culture in NA, SA, EU, RU and Greater Asia - basically every region of the world except Africa and the "Middle East" as we call it - humans of both sexes tend to respond better, listen more and are more comfortable with a female representation and voice than a male one. You might have seen it mentioned in fiction a few times - Halo is the most direct reference, as Cortana says she choose her form and based it off of Dr. Halsey's younger self because people responded better to it than they did the male and non-humanoid forms chosen by other AIs - but in real life you see it take place as you'll notice that in the US military almost all automated alarms/voice functions are actually voiced by women, not males, because both men and women tend respond more calmly when spoken to by a woman rather than a man.

Of all the possible designs, WHY A COFFEE MAKER????

Wouldn't a TV/Wallscreen/Picture Frame or Projector be more efficient and portable?

Or am I missing some line of logic where every coffee maker should have a little wife inside?

Maybe it's so they can say "Oh my wife brewed my coffee this morning." and be sincere?

Your waifu lives on in your heart, dammit! This is just a lazy oversimplification of a spiritual bond that knows no bounds. Back in my day, we had to work for our self-delusions.

More importantly, when does the Tsundere version come out?

---

Okay. I think it would be kinda cute if it focused on being an interactive alarm clock/reminder system with a range of character creation options. But then again, I have 3 cats that function pretty well as far as interactive alarm clocks go.
Cute concept, kinda weirded out by the texting -- just talk to Cleverbot, or give some sass to Siri while you make the motions with a sockpuppet. (See? Budget edition!) Plus it's a conversation piece for those moments when your co-workers call security on you.

She nags him about being late within the first 20 seconds of the video. I don't usually have to pay for that. Also, I hate his door handles. Also, it's creepyweirdsad.

Edit: I should say, I'd feel different about it if I could have a full-size holographic tiger following me around, even if no one else could see it. Though then it isn't really a hologram so much as a hallucination I guess.

If you're feeling that much loneliness, how hard can it be to just... join an online forum or some shit. Play a videogame, watch a movie, build some model planes or something, join a forum for whatever your hobby is... Then you can at least interact with real people.
