Our immune system. Are we dropping it?

If you look at evolution, you'll notice that animals drop "features" they don't need for their life style, and improve others that benefit them.

Now, as healthcare is advancing, and we're getting used to living in a clean(er) environment, i fear that we might be sacrificing our natural defense for an artificial one. While some might like the idea of taking our defense into our own hands, i don't want to lose my immune system because if society falls apart, or i get isolated from it, i'm done. I don't want to solely depend on other people, let alone technology.

What do you think? Should science look at ways to preserve our immune system? Or is it not "un-evolving" at all?

I read an article in some magazine about how evolution is practically reversing. Now, because hunters control which particular animal lives and dies, the weaker, scrawnier animals are surviving while the big, tough game gets killed for their bigger antlers or astounding strength.

I purposely don't use hand sanitizers, purposely expose myself to disease, because of this. Now? I haven't gotten sick in 4 years.

I'm pretty sure I have a good immune system. I've never been really sick. Worst I can remember was food poisoning. So we might drop it a bit, I don't think we will ever lose our immune systems. If it gets really bad we can start raising kids surrounded by diseases so by like 15-20 they can survive anything short of AIDS.

Caused by personal security from death AAAND bad genes being contributed into the genepool, it is true that we are essentially downgrading... for now. But what challenges will we face in our weakened state? I bet thats when we'll get to grow gills.

If you're that afraid of losing your immune system, don't let it happen.

It's your immune system and ultimately, only you can control how much practise it gets.

Don't live in a 100% sterile environment, don't unnecessarily take antibiotics and occasionally lick the pavement.

Even if there's a thing of gum on the pavement?

Here's an amusing fact that scientist found kids who eat their boogers have a better immune system than those who don't.

Makes sense in a simple vein of logic (I am no scientist and have only a basic understanding of human biology, so those with more knowledge feel free to correct me.)

Meat, unless it's free range, has all kinds of goodies in it. The cows that get processed into burgers are doped up on antibiotics and fed GMO feed. Many studies of meat show that those antibiotics are carried over to the people who eat it, a.k.a, us. So again, following that logic, it makes sense that meat-eaters would have "better" immune systems.

Of course, better is in quotes for the simple fact that antibiotics actually weaken the immune system by killing off everything it normally kills. It becomes something like drug withdrawl - without the antibiotics, the body can't fight off infection as well.

I didn't mean those boogers but the ones from the nose.

Hahahahah! Ha. I've never heard them called that before. I learned something today.

My point stands.

I've noticed I barely eat meat (Don't get me wrong, I love the stuff. I am in fact opposed to vegeterianism. Not kidding, opposed to it.)
And I barely get sick. Of course, I also hardly ever bathe, hardly ever go outside, but on the other hand, don't even use hand wipes/sanitizers.

The main source of depletion in SOME people's immune system is due to prescription drugs and this new found obsession with everything being sanitized. Your immune system is built up by encountering germs so your body can learn to fight them, but Suzie F-ing Homemaker just doesn't want her kids getting sick cause then SHE'D have to wipe their snotty little noses, so she Lysols the whole damn house and buys special soaps and crap. If people would stop being afraid of germs to such an extreme we'd all be a lot healthier.
