Out of the Vault: Fallout 3

I was wondering what some other players first did when they exited Vault 101 in Fallout 3.

When I emerged I started to walk down the road. Only I was walking in the direction away from Megaton. I walked along for awhile and tangled with a pack of dogs. Then I saw a small group of buildings. I thought it would be a good place to find supplies. Instead it was filled with Raiders that nearly killed me. I ran off into the wastes only to run into a ditch. Inside the ditch I saw a radscorpion. I then died for my stupidity.

After I reloaded my save, I ran to Megaton.

So what was your first experience like outside the Vault?

I raid the school near megaton for some starter supplies and an assault rifle.

I just started wandering. I was so excited to start exploring the Wasteland. I wound up discovering a good third of the locations before i even first ventured into Megaton.

I just wandered and got bum rushed by some mutants and slavers lol it sucked

I'm pretty sure I went staight to Megaton. But I remember a short time after that walking around and coming across an old barn. Expecting something to be inside, I decide to take a look. As I approach, I see two old guys running out of the house, firing guns at some unseen thing chasing them. Suddenly, a GIANT RADIOSCORPION crawls out of the house (I'm like level 2-3 at this point, FYI) and lays waste to the two farmers, then quickly turns it's attention to me. Needless to say, I was dead in seconds.

The first time I did it, I wound up in a shack with some ex-prostitute who died pretty quickly.
Then ended up in a school, fighting bandits.

I went into Megaton pretty early, but that was just so I could get a footing in the game to go off of.

Was thinking "Boy this is going to be a depressing travel..."..Then I found Megaton and blew it up. ^^

Straight to Megaton. I hear a lot of people do miss it completely. I felt kinda naked, wearing only plastic and fabric, holding a tiny pistol. I didn't risk it too much.

I just followed that road into Springvale, walking slowly, listening to Encalve Radio (before I knew they were the bad guys). I then followed the signs to Megaton.

Went to Springvale, figured out VATS, had my first badass sneak attack, and neglected to acknowledge Bottle Caps as currency. The usual.

I decided to go to the only standing house in springvale, Silver's Ranch, and decided to mug her. Took her caps, and then headed off down the road. Once I got under a bridge, a fellow wastelander came running by me, before I got beheaded by a Deathclaw.

I just kind of walked until I saw the Megaton sign, at which point, I went the other direction in the fork in the road. I ran into a group of raiders, hid behind a rock and saved, and then played the encounter about 15 times until I had killed all of them. Then, in my stupidity, I attacked the trade caravan that is outside of Megaton. I was killed, and worst of all...I had to reload the save from before my raider encounter! It sucked, but I love Fallout 3 anyways.

Went to Megaton, bought a Sawn-off Shotgun, shells, and 2 frag grenades from Moira, left town and ambushed a nearby BoS Outcast squad. Needless to say I was not happy when I found about the Power Armor training.

I headed straight west, i ran into a few raider bands and survived, acquiring their armor and weapons. I never went into a building until I found that little settlement under the freeway where that crazy Nuka-Cola ***** is. I took her tour and got the quantum quest. Then I went outside and her little buddy who wants to shag her accosted me. When he turned around i gave him a few combat shotgun shells to back of his head and took the Kneecapper. I didn't realize how far past Megaton I actually made it until I checked my map. Good times, good times.

I went to Megaton,then Tenpenny, then just started moving East. I met many people, killed many people, and took their stuff only to sell to traders. Afterwards I killed the traders and took ammo and interesting weapons.

You can kill an entire Outcast squad with 2 frags?

I did pretty much EXACTLY what you did, except I got killed by a bunch of supermutants with rifles. I started a new game after that and did things the right way.
