I stepped out of the Vault, and surveyed the blasted wastes stretching out before me. "Hmmm..." I said to myself "Not much, but I suppose it will do... for the beginning of my new empire!"

I then summoned my trusty mount, a Deathclaw the size of a Behemoth, wih Fat Mans for arms. He strode to the center of the Wasteland. I called out with my godly voice: "Folk of the Wasteland, human and mutant alike, gaze upon your new master! Any who resist will be crushed!"

Of course, the fools fought me. But they were no match for the might of my pet and I. I pointed a finger at the nuke in Megaton, and it detonated under the force of my awesomeness. The Enclave, Brotherhood, Super Mutants, and Wastelanders all set aside their differences to bring their combined might against me, but to no avail. Their ranks were swept aside like so many bits of dust...

Then I stopped, and looked around at the sea of corpses, punctuated here and there with a survivor. The few left living were indisputably under my command, knowing full well the power of the true god of the Wasteland.

I gathered my new followers around me. They gazed at me, awestruck by the splendor of the figure astride the great Deathclaw. They eagerly anticipated for when their new lord would address them...

"So... you guys have any quests for me to do?"

I went to Springvale, somehow missed silver altogether, went to the school, miraculously survived and killed all the raiders, went to Megaton, spoke to the robot and then walked right around Megaton before realising that the entrance was just next to the bloody robot... muppet.

Went to Springvale, figured out VATS, had my first badass sneak attack, and neglected to acknowledge Bottle Caps as currency. The usual.
Pretty much the same as me, it took me maybe 5 or 6 levels of junking the caps to figure out that it was the currency. Needless to say i died a lot near the beginning, due to a total lack of equipment for the above reason..

i walked around a little bit, looting stuff, meeting hookers, then 6 minutes late found the megaton sign and thought to myself "if megaton is this way i'm going (looks in other direction) that way" then raided the outside of the school, and when it started getting dark, decided to go to megaton, only to found out i didn't have the skill to difuse the bomb so i didn't get my house, and then i discovered the waiting button.

Someones bound to have already said this, but...
First I went to the ex-hookers place, killed her, took everything that wasnt nailed down, found the stash in the rock (which includes sniper and sneak boy? i forget) then i wasted Moiras dream of writing a book, struck an uber deal with the bad guys for Megaton (his name eludes me) recruited Jericho cuz i could, killed everyone except bad dude, and laid waste to Megaton via bomb. i then killed everyone of tenpenny tower, helped roy the ghoul and then killed them all. i had fun and was about level 7 within 30 mins of work. THE END

I finnaly got out (After spending a half hour trying to find my way out. Yes I'm just that retarded) of Vault 101 after a good 30 minutes into the game.I thought since this was a nuclear wastland very few people would have decent weapons and I would be able to kill them and take there money. So I ran around the wastes until I found my way into D.C. There I met the supermutants who took me by surprise (and by surprise I mean that 20 of them began shooting at me from behind) I haden't seen anything but a couple of raiders so all I had was the 10mm pisotl you get in the vault (Which had about 4 bullets left).

The first time I did it, I wound up in a shack with some ex-prostitute who died pretty quickly.
Then ended up in a school, fighting bandits.

I went into Megaton pretty early, but that was just so I could get a footing in the game to go off of.
I did the exact same thing! I couldn't be bother'd with the prostitutes quest. Also I stole something, so she hit me, so I shot her in the face.
I didn't even know that she had a quest.
I either kill her or just use Speech to get her to give me all her cash.
Hehehehe....

Explored Springvale, beat up the Enclave Eyebot with a baseball bat, talked to Silver, killed her, took her gun, explored the school, capped a few raiders, beat up a couple ants. It was an interesting one.

I wandered off, and, unlucky me, found a Super Mutant camp. Even worse, it was the one in Evergreen Mills or where ever, so it hada SM Behemoth. Not a good first encounter.
I won, and got a shit ton of goodies for it.
I love my hunting rifle...

Stood on that little scenic overlook thing right outside. Then explored a bit until my game stopped working. Once I replaced it, I went to Megaton and found out that the designers really don't favor the "bad" path they let you pick.

I wandered, found Fort Independence and the coolest ruins I've found in the game(FiarFax I think, near Greyditch), got blown up up a raider with a rocket launcher. Then I loaded, went slightly different way, but ended up hitting the same spots. At one point I found a deathclaw out in a field, and ran and shot as fast as I could. Then killed it, which made me sad. Then I made my way to Megaton! Those ruins where really fun to play in, and my first moments in Fallout 3 were the best.

I've never noticed that until recently. I somehow always walked right past it.

And yes, this is pretty much just a thread bump.

I was wondering what some other players first did when they exited Vault 101 in Fallout 3.

When I emerged I started to walk down the road. Only I was walking in the direction away from Megaton. I walked along for awhile and tangled with a pack of dogs. Then I saw a small group of buildings. I thought it would be a good place to find supplies. Instead it was filled with Raiders that nearly killed me. I ran off into the wastes only to run into a ditch. Inside the ditch I saw a radscorpion. I then died for my stupidity.

After I reloaded my save, I ran to Megaton.

So what was your first experience like outside the Vault?

Mine was almost exactly similar to yours... Except more Super mutants
