"Ouya looking more and more appealing"

I read this and I was like: "Dude, why you need communicate with spirits for?"
Then I read the thread...

Yeah, I don't have much interrest in this Ouya thing or talking with spirits.

I think it's PS4 and Durango and WiiU's "We play AAA games!" vs the Ouya's "Hey, you can play your smartphone apps on your TV now... yay"

This will likely be the best time for it to enter the market. Large publishers have to shell out massive amounts of money to buy the SDK to produce the games for the mainstream consoles. Ultimately these large publishers will be demolished by smaller more nimble developers that are creating niche products.

The Ouya is open source. If you can WINE a PC game, Ouya could play it.

Incorrect. You can't run x86 programs on an ARM-based device so easily. WINE is just a compatibility layer, not an emulator.

I want to see some solid games for the system first. So far just having android games on the TV isn't very appealing to me.
I heard Square-Enix hopped on board so I'm a little bit optimistic. I think with an actual physical controller you'll see games closer to what psn or Xbox live offer.

Some people think mobile games are still like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl4q_Em0EQE], but nowadays they are more like this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXP9Rcr7OLQ].

Some people think that matters. My Vita does better, plays the same kind of things, and doesn't get much use. Casual "bus stop games" and AAA adventures and RPGs are not in the same category. Consoles do not have competition because mobiles aren't doing the same kind of thing. When cell phones get the next Elder Scrolls and sell even half the copies of a console release, you will have a point.

Yeah, but unlike your Vita android has games. And is open source, which means free stuff and emulation.
So you have the additional choices of piracy or shitty freeware? Ummm..Remind me how this is a winner again?

Everyone keeps talking about how stale and stagnant the industry is and how they want new things but I rarely here anyone mentioning anything about the upcoming Ouya. I know I am getting more and more excited for the Ouya with every announcement I hear about the new consoles. I guess I just find it odd everyone is shouting for change but nobody seems to be excited for the one thing that is rocking the boat.
The Ouya is interesting. I might, at some point, be interested in it.

I'm probably not picking up a release PS4, but I'll get one not too long thereafter. That purchase is happening. The Ouya will have to compete with a WiiU (and whatever Monolith Soft is making for it) for my second-rung purchases.

Now, if Monolith Soft puts X out on the Ouya, then sold. I'd rather have an Ouya than a WiiU, personally, (I'd rather support the risky startup than Stagnant Juggernaut) but I will follow Monolith Soft to the ends of the earth (and any console they program for) for more games.

What games will it have on it that I can't play on my PC?

For me, that's the most important question about any console. This Ouya thing hasn't answered it yet.
It's the same question I ask myself when it comes to buying ANY console. The only reason to buy a console seems to be for the exclusives, which is a practice in itself I do not condone.

Probably why I didn't buy a most recent generation console.

Yes, by all means, go tell Gameloft they should drop all their more ambitious titles and make only bus stop games.

Nothing stops you from emulating freeware stuff.
So now your choices are shitty freeware or emulating shitty freeware. Seems redundant.

Or owning the original cartridges of software you emulate.
downloading is still piracy and still illegal in such circumstances.

EDIT: Let's be clear here. Fair Use doctrine doesn't afford you downloading stuff or making it available for others to download. One of the major tenets of the backup clause is it's your actions and your property. Currently, nothing else actually qualifies. You may try and moralise it, but it's still illegal. The average consumer does not have the capacity to back up their games legally, either.

So, while you are technically correct in saying emulation is not piracy, emulation, for all realistic intents and purposes of this line of thinking does require it.

You're trying for a "god of the gaps" argument, and the gaps are getting smaller.
