Well, we discovered the only Roman aviary in Britain while building a new physics building, but it wasn't much of an overreaction... We just closed off the area for the archaeological survey and then moved on with construction when they were done.

i would't say the OP's school overreacted, per se. sure, it was a false alarm, but if the grenade had been live, that's a pretty serious danger.

my school's best overreaction, though, was the numerous times my little brother got called into the principal's office in highschool for "being scary". granted, this was right after Columbine, and my little brother is 6'2" and 300 lbs and dressed really weird. i guess that qualified him as a legitimate danger :p

I live in Winnipeg and at my high school in Senior year there was a group of "gangstas" that showed up one day and bear maced a bunch of students that were smoking in the front of the school. I don't remember whether or not they knew these people or it was just some punks starting trouble but the next day at lunch they had the school under lockdown and had a teacher guarding every door, monitoring who came in and out. It was pretty lame and the punks never showed up obviously so it was all just a big waste of time.

(I graduated in 1999, so all of this happened before that)
...We had bomb threats from kids who just wanted to close the school all the time... the worst thing that ever resulted was akin to a fire drill. We often had gangbanger wannabes shoot at kids in the park for reasons known only to them. Once a kid got hit in the leg, and there were many times that they shot out a window or two. Didn't shut the school down for any of that...

So yeah, you whipper-snappers and your overreacting schools make me glad I didn't have to grow up ten years later.
...I blame yuppies and soccer moms.

Well there was this time when a colleague brought a gun at school (it was one of those that you see at a museum) from like the early 1900 and they caught him when he was scaring a little kid with it and he got sent to the principal.

He was never seen again...

Nah jk, he was warned that if he does it again he'll pe expelled.

I don't think that was an overreaction, you have to remember that schools our crowded with thousands of kids, it's only smart to be on the safe side. Although my school had a big scare with the pant chains on the goth outfits said they could be weapons.T

My school built a bomb-proof wall in Denmark. One of the safest countries in the world.

One time at my school, someone put a trainer in a toilet and then did a number 2 on it. An assembly was held which called for the perpetrator to reveal himself, as he was obviously "seriously disturbed."

Oh, and this other time a kid blew up a computer by fiddling with something on the back of it. I was walking back to the lesson from a guitar lesson, and there was white smoke pouring from the IT room.

You don't get that reputation without unnecessary precautions:p

One time in a Science room there was suppose to be some big fire or something where we then had to be evacuated but it was put out quickly, but I can't really think of anything else

I wouldn't call it over reaction.. the kid DID have a grenade on him. That's just a stupid thing to bring to school, live or not.

Overreaction in our school? Well, no not really. I suppose the only overreaction was because of a genuine threat; a natural gas leak during construction. The younger grades were panicked, ecstatic, basically jumping around everywhere during the evacuation.

Sure, it ended school for the day but I didn't get to go home for another 3 hours despite living very close to the school. I had to be "supervised" in the local town auditorium until the all clear was sounded. The whole thing was just a giant annoyance.
We had that once. Someone at chemistry leaked something highly toxic (not sure what it was, but it was dangerous). They evacuated the entire school out onto the field across the street. We had to stay there. We and a lot of other people just climbed over the back fence and left.

I think I once made an alarm go of by accident... Jumped down a stair about 1,5 meters high and the whole room shaked, and the alarm sounded that exact moment....
