Small fires started everywhere in the camp. Panicked soldiers ran around, trying to swat flames and save their valuables and the flames engulfed tents. Commander Johnsson glanced around and started shouting orders. Soldiers snapped to their senses and took only what they could save. Johnsson nodded to the marines and motioned at the superhumans to follow. A soldier picked up badly burned Dr. Carter and the force retreated from the fiery inferno.
It didn't take long to reach the backup base and the soldiers ran to heal their injuries, heal the injured and fix their stuff up. Dr. Carter was rushed to a hospital tent. Johnsson sighed and motioned the superhumans to follow him to his tent, accompanied with elite guards and guardian's. The Guardian's were humongous, yet delicate looking robots with one eerie eye glowing on their hard metal face. The group entered the tent and the guardian's stayed at the door.
Johnsson sat down on his chair and waved his hand, motioning the others to sit down. Everyone except Mister Terrible sat. He stepped towards Johnsson. Johnsson raised an eyebrow at Mister Terrible.
"Now, things that you should know while you are still very friendly taken here. You kill one of my men, you will be shot down before you can even raise your hands to surrender."
He took a sip of his glass of brandy, pointing at the chair in front of his table. Mister Terrible sat on it, straightening his suit. A pair of soldiers came in, saluted and helped Ray to an chair. They unlocked his chains and left the tent. Fox and Wolf entered and saluted at Johnsson.
"At ease. Come here."
Both of them marched to Johnsson and Fox put a datachip on the table. Johnsson picked it up and inserted it into a machine, which emitted a hologram, showing the previous battles they had fought. The acid, sniper shots, destruction, capturing David... everything was seen on the tape. Johnsson and the crowd watched the film silently.
"I am the current leader of this operation. Our mission was to pacify and capture these "superhumans", who emerged just twenty four hours ago."
Johnsson snapped his fingers and a small servant droid came out, holding a flatscreen.
"That objective, however, is now impossible to achieve, as you are here. We cannot "pacify and capture" you without endangering my whole crew. I have another solution, or rather, The Company has another solution."
The screen turned on, showing the logo of the company. It was a white R with black lines. The background was a hand, a fist to be exact. A modified voice started talking.
"Good evening, superhumans. We are The Company. Our first intention truly was capturing you, but we've come to the conclusion that... it isn't the best solution. We are willing to hire you, however, to capture other, less powerful superhumans or work for us from this day on. If you choose the first one, we will let you go after we have secured all of the superhumans still in the city. If you choose the second one, you will leave your former life behind, we will wipe every information about your past and you will work for our cause. Thank you for listening, I trust you will inform commander Johnsson of your choice."
The screen flickered and shut down. The servant droid beeped and fled back to it's duty. Johnsson leaned back.
"I don't trust you people, but I'm on strict orders from The Company. This means I have to polish your boots even if you've just killed some of my best men. Don't expect any kindness from me... but orders are orders. Everyone heard the offers, take your pick-"
Dr. Carter bursted in. Her face was covered in red bandages and a droid was fixing her left arm, which sparked a few times. Artificial body parts. Her face was furious.
"You! Everyone of you! If you bring me a robot named 3W's head, I will personally guarantee you and your freak friends will be freed right away! I want that scrapbucket's head!", she screamed and coughed up some blood. A medic came in and took her back to the hospital tent.
Johnsson closed his eyes and shook his head.
