I feel like making the movie version of B-Cell's thread because I am curious.

As to what I see as classic movies, I say focus on movies before the 2000s because lets just say I know all of you guys are gonna say superhero movies like the Dark Knight are overrated so before 2000s it is.

For example: I think Blade Runner is overrated, and pretentious. And I watched all the versions of it.

I think jaws was overrated. Would have been better without the shark.

I never get to be the first to mention an obvious choice in yet another gripe thread, so here we go, *ahem*?

The original Star Wars trilogy. Moderately entertaining, not near worth the rabid fandom it has elicited over the decades.

But is anything? Should all SW fans just be trekkies?

Anyway, Troll 2.

True, it would have been scarier if it was the Black Leviathan:

Not frothing at the mouth in support of Jaws (indifferent about it best,) but I?d argue were he a sea monster, the movie would have been consigned to ?campy, monster B-movie? status in the annals of cinema history. Making him a creature that actually exists (insofar as Great White sharks are a thing) wrapped the movie in a unnerving shroud of feasibility, i.e.: I?m not afraid of ghosts, but psychotic serial killers terrify the shit outta me. Pretty sure the girl from ?The Ring? isn?t a threat I?ll face any time soon, but I?m equally sure my neighbor builds death traps in his spare time (no proof as yet, but I?ve heard the power tools and the screams. Coincidence? Says you?)

Tim Burton's Batman. A thoroughly boring Batman, a completely disinteresting love interest and a Joker that represents some of the worst aspects of "crazy" villains, with Nicholson's portrayal going all the way through threatening/terrifying and straight into stupid.

Going to have to echo this one as well, New Hope doesn't particularly hold up (Controversial(?) opinion, I prefer Force Awakens over this) and I can't say I rate Jedi all that well either.

I came that way from Watching the first Batman movie after watching the Dark Knight prior.

Text book example of how dated a movie can be.

I love Star Wars, even the prequels, but I'll be the first to admit the first one, Star Wars, is a garbage movie. The pacing and editing are terrible, no one can act at all, and the original cut was filled with production errors.

As for my overrated classics, in keeping with today's ZP, the Shawshank Redemption. I finally saw it a few years ago, having been told it was the greatest movie ever, and it was just kinda' meh. It wasn't bad. Hell, its even good. But my god isn't not the best ever and its actually kinda' forgetable.

Also not sure its a 'classic' but the Big Lebowski is garbage. It is boring, cringeworthy and just a snooze.

Alright:

-Beauty and the Beast (it's good, but I don't think it deserves the pedastal that so many put it on. Even compared to other Disney Renaissance films, I'd rank it below Aladdin and Lion King)

-Ghostbusters (similarly, I think it's a good movie, but I don't think it's the Second Coming of Zuul...it's just a good fun movie. That's it.)

-Henry V (1944): Haven't seen too much of this, but of what I have seen, it pales in comparison to the 1989 version)

-Doctor No/From Russia with Love (while Connery had at least one good James Bond film with Goldfinger, these films...I don't get why they're so loved. Doesn't help that Connery is my second least favorite version of Bond)

-Men in Black (similar to Ghostbusters - it's a fun, good movie, I just don't get why it was apparently so good to launch the franchise it did)

-The Mighty Ducks (about the most cliched children's sport film you can imagine. Doesn't help that Little Giants came out two years later and, while having a similar premise, executes it much better)

-2001: A Space Odyssey (I can appreciate this film's influence within the genre, but it doesn't change the fact that it's a chore to sit through, and a pale imitation of the book it's based on)

-Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (not the worst Star Trek movie, but I really dislike it, and that isn't helped by the fact that so many people love this installment)

-Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (always considered it to be the weak link in the original trilogy)

-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990) (this...isn't a good film. Maybe the more recent ones are indeed worse, but this one is by no means "good")

-Toy Story 2 (this is okay, but it baffles me that it's so highly regarded, especially in comparison to Toy Story 1/3)

-Tron (the film tries, but its effects have aged terribly, and its characters and writing are really wonky.)

When was younger I disliked Star Trek and TNG but like the original Star Wars. Now I see Star Wars as not very good but still better than TNG. The two Star Trek series made me not even try DS9 for almost a decade. But I'm happy someone convinced me. It has long term consequences to actions. An example of DS9 not doing this was In the Pale Moonlight where Sisko is wracked with guilt during the episode but is fine for the rest of the series. It just doesn't make sense.

Rogue One is similar also, the good guys had problematic flaws. It's why Empire is the best original. Luke puts his friends at risk becuase he's impatient.

I actually liked Disocvery. Except the first episode, which is probably the worst Star Trek episode ever. The actions from the first has ramifications for the whole series. The war was stupid but showing how dangerous and unsettling Lorca is - great. But a lot of fans dump on it becuase it isn't like the first two.

Anyway, Bladerunner. It's good, not a masterpiece. But I don't think any movie is a masterpiece so it's a cheap shot.

How about any Bond movie... No equivocations. all bad except the recent Casino Royale

Really? People usually put the Lion King as the most overrated.

I never got into Ghostbusters and still wonder why it has the fanbase it does.

Time dates certain movies I think time wasn't too kind on the 1944 version?

Tried watching them but could never sit through it. And to be honest the only James Bond movie I enjoyed the most was Goldeneye.

I haven't seen Men in Black in YEARS since I saw it in the theater.

I am more familiar with the Mighty Ducks animated cartoon than the movie. And for the record, The Sandlot is the better Kid's Sports movie.

Only 3 sequences I absolutely loved in 2001: A Space Oddyssey. The Dawn of Man, The Wormhole sequnce, and the Room Sequence.

To be fair I think Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home is the most overrated and bad.

I certainly agree about Empire Strikes Back.

I do think seeing that movie makes me hungry to eat Pizza.

Pretty much every Pixar movie is overrated to me, even the ones I like. (Increadibles is a better Watchmen movie and a better Fantastic Four movie my ass)

I was BORED with Tron after the game sequence.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Toy Story 3, it was such a meh movie. I don't get why people were sending death threats to the one critic who stopped it from having 100% on rotten tomatoes.

You mean Armond White? Because I get why people don't like Toy Story 3 and I'm fine with that.

On the other hand, Armond White is a giant can of worms that is hard to talk about.

2001: A Space Odyssey

I get why people like it and respect the film for its legacy along with its effects, but Jesus Christ, its such a slog to get through.

I kinda get with Beauty and the Beast though I'm that guy who found Lion King average.

Yeah, Ghostbusters is a good fun comedy and has this weird following.

I still need to watch Henry V.

I love From Russia With Love, but yeah, Dr. No is kinda a bit boring at times for me.

Men in Black should not have been a franchise. Even if I don't mind III.

I haven't seen Mighty Ducks since I was a kid.

2001 is so goddamn boring.

Ironically I hated Voyage Home at first because I got into Star Trek thanks to the films and when I got to IV, I hated it because it was a comedy. Then I realized I thought of it merely on the basis of only associating Star Trek as just serious that any sense of comedy in Star Trek was bs. So I rewatched it on its own merits and oddly enough I like it now.

Empire is my fav, but yeah, it is kinda overhyped.

I like the '90 film, but yeah, I can see why. But yeah, the new ones are much worse.

Its a good film, but its the weakest in the trilogy.

I enjoy it though the effects didn't age well. I liked Legacy a bit more honestly.
