I let him live. The biggest mistake to do is not only to kill someone who I like, but to kill an entire species, who cares if their dragons. Besides, Delphine was an ass about it.

Also I actually trusted Paarthunax. He was cool, being a fucking dragon and all.

Honestly that request convinced me the Greybeard's are correct about the Blades, they only see the dragon born as a weapon, the do not serve the dragon born at all.

While I felt the Blades were being manipulative i also saw ole Parthy using me as a tool to get rid of his brother so he could take charge. I didnt trust his smooth talk one bit and it almost felt like a good salesman or con artist... wait salesman are con artists...

Anyway i didnt kill him during the quest but quite a while after it was completed when i had to go back up that damn mountain for some snow during a seperate quest. he was there but wouldnt talk to me so it was as good a time to chop him up and loot his corpse as any.

My point being and thoughts was that both were using me to get a result, but its better to remove Alduins replacement and have the Blades who do more than just worry about dragons. Bringing the blades back would also help in the fight against the dominion where we already know dragons would rather slaughter us than help us so support from them would be fickle or non exhistant.

*edit
For those who chose to let ole parthy live knowing full well he is taking charge notice 2 things. he never said anything about coexisting peacefully and that after Alduin was dead and the quest was completed the dragon attacks became more frequent? Ole parthy is a silver tounged devil!

No way, Paarthy was more or less the number two when it came to defeating Alduin. Couldn't have been done without him, he's changed, he's a decent guy. He deserves to live.

Blades can fuck right off. I already took Dragonbane from the temple so I don't need them anyway.

I really like Parthunaax I feel totally miserable atm because the blades want me to kill him.

:(

I wanted to turn around and list all the nasty shit I've done and see if they want to bring me to justice...

They can try...
Like that life sapping shout you can only complete by joining the Dark Brotherhood, that I've been using to kill dragons from cover? Yeah, I think they'd go ballistic if they knew, especially with my lycanthropy and daedric cannibalism ring.
Well, you don't have to join them. When you get taken to the hut, just kill Astrid. Simple as that.

OT: I killed him. Was easy, too! I mean, why not? I'm killing everything in the game and stealing their shoes!
Does she drop the password to the Sanctuary though?
Naw, it sends you on a quest to sanctuary where you pay a visit to a guard. He directs you to where you need to go.
The guy you actually talk to after that says that he discovered the password and sends you to wipe out the brotherhood. You get to kill everyone, with the sole exception of the 300+ year old little vampire girl.

On further reflection, I think the toughest thing about Paarthurnax's story arc is that I want to see MORE of what happens to the character post-main quest. Too bad that the option to kill him probably means his story won't provide the basis for future DLC. of course, they could always just cheat him back into the game Broken Steel style...

Why would you kill Paarthurnax? He's probably one of the many few developed characters (relatively) in the whole of Skyrim. There is zero reason to kill him. So what if Paarthurnax decides to go on a rampage? I'll kill him as easily as I killed Alduin. Berserker Rage FTW.

I literally laughed out loud when they told me to do it.

"What, because I need your guys protection? Fuck you, you couldn't have done it without me you ungrateful wannabe samurai pieces of..."

I ended up just picking the lock that held the armor and giving it to Lydia. And then I went up to old Parthy and told him about it, hoping he'd share a laugh with me.

i electrocuted the shit out of parthy. i thought it was fricking cool that that was even an option. i thought he'd drop like an epic "sword of the ancient dragon" or something, but no it was just the usual dragon drops. he wasn't even particularly difficult to defeat. no harder than any other dragon. i kinda felt bad afterwards

I am the Dragonborn. The Blades are sworn to serve me. Therefore they can suck it. That was my thought on it anyway. I'll just wait for a mod to come out allowing me to beat the two of them in to submission without killing Paarthurnax.
There is a way to kill those bastards if you're playing on PC:

setessential 00013478 0 (kill Delphine)
setessential 00013358 0 (kill Esbern)

Personally, I used the console to make the game mark the quest to kill Paarthurnax as completed. Paarthurnax lived, the Greybeards still help me, and I feel like I'm lying to the Blades and they are totally buying it because my Speech is ungodly high (and the game gives them no choice).

Killing Paarthurnax is actually one of the lesser morally ambiguous decisions in the game imo. When it comes down to it the good thing to do is let him live. Vengeance for people who died eons ago is meaningless and he has proven he is willing and able to make the dragons a peaceful race. The dragons are the children of Akatosh and if Paarthurnax doesn't live on to guide his fellow dragons they will be hunted down. A meaningless genocide of their race would be an insult to mankind's divine protector. Not a good idea.

I let him live, because if Delphine wants him dead she can bloody well do it herself. Plus, she didnt say please.
This I let him live purely because she was really rude about her request that i kill him. Conditioning her assistance on me offing the one dragon that helped me get the tools to kill alduin was a real dick move. To do it in a rude manner was inexcusable.

Caius Cosades from Morrowind would have been really chill about it. He would have sat you down in his house, offered you a few puffs of his Moon Sugar pipe and discuss why he thinks you should kill Paarthy. If you came up with a decent argument he'd probably stand down and say, "I still got your back man... actually I have to go back to Cyrodiil. Official business, you understand. You've got the whole 'saving the world thing' from here right?"

The Blades used to be awesome :(

I wasn't prepared to cut down someone who had helped me to victory just on the Blade's say-so. Their 'quest' sounded a lot like Genocide to me? Besides, I'm the dragon-born. I killed Alduin, if Paarthurnax ever became a problem, I could kill him them with little effort. However, while he presents no threat I'm quite happy to live and let live with him.

I've got to say, I took a long time to decide whether I should let him live or not. In the end I killed him because I thought it was time to bring the age of the dragons to a close, and I wanted to recommit to the blades I loved so much from Morrowind and Oblivion. I was pissed, though, that the blades gave me no further quests after killing parthunaax [sic]. They just said "good job" then every other time I talked to them they said "what?"

Even when I bought them followers they didn't give a crap beyond the initiation.

If I played again I'd probably let him live and live without the blades, holed up in their ghost-filled temple.

I was going to kill Paarthurnax but i took an arrow to the knee ......
Is there some reference I'm not getting? I've played the game, no one reacts any differently if they get an arrow in the knee, as far as I can tell, etc etc... A meme would be annoying if it made sense (i.e. 'the cake' etc) but this is just a bit of a nonentity.
It's one of the universal dialogue lines that get thrown about by random people who you can't engage in proper conversation. "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow in the knee." Apparently people were getting it a lot so it became a meme, but personally I only heard it on a small handful of occasions, much more common for me was "Watch you step Redguard!" with a slightly racist undercurrent.

Raj thinks dragons are fickle creatures. Follow thing with biggest stick.
Look how easily one turns on Alduin!

But Raj really has no place to speak on matter. Follow person with biggest supply of moon sugar, then sta-..... I mean, buy from him till Raj has biggest supply.
Also follow woman with biggest breasts! Usually ends up in bad place rather not talk about. Wife Mjoll has 6th sense about me cheating. Always seems to know. Her foot has Clairvoyance, and my nether region is its quest.

But getting off topic again. Think Paarthy should live. Think he is cool bro. Could not save world without him! Why show your gratitude by stabbing him?
Besides, all things backfire in future. Kill him, dragons might not listen to anyone! Then how good will world be? At least Paarthy seems to be reasonable at times. And he always pays tab at tavern! Cannot argue with man who pays tab!
You're awesome. I now recognise you by the name "Raj".

There's a few reasons I didn't kill him. Most importantly, he's badass. But also, without his help there was no chance of defeating Alduin. He openly admitted that dragons are not to be trusted, but I say he still deserves trust. Yeah, he did awful things way back, but back then with Alduin holding ultimate power there wasn't much choice.

Also very important, he is now instructing other dragons in the way of the Voice. This means less dragons trying to eat peasants, and it means a few more allies if something else comes along. Lets see the Thalmor fight the Dovahkiin and his army of motherfucking dragons.
I agree. The Thalmor are a far more potent threat in the long term than the dragons.

Paarth helped me out throughout the main quest and other than him, I got more help from The Beards than The Blades. Seriously, if they want him dead they can go finish the job on their own: I'm not about to slay an ally. Besides, when I talked to him about it he made a point about overcoming his own nature...then again, he also said it was wise to mistrust Dragons...oh well, screw it, I'm not killing the thing.
