I know you guys and girls or maybe the odd anthro like creature out there has done a puzzle in their life. Either a game puzzle or paper puzzle but we have all done one...but what made you cry in joy when you got it right? which ones made you suffer sleepness nights over it? please tell me and I'll tell my own.

I suppose I fit the final of those 3 categories in that case. :D

I'd say that the worst was in Myst 3: Exile. The machines in Amateria were devilish, especially the one where you had to adjust the resonance of the gateways or else that ball shatters.

A heart attack could put you into the ground.

BattleGround.

Bars deter cuckoo bird.

Try to figure those out. I will give no help.

In Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass when I finally worked out the Ghost Ship puzzle. I don't think any puzzle has ever driven me so mad. I honestly thought it was a glitch that I couldn't continue. If you haven't played the game and have no intention of doing so please read further down and read exactly what I'm talking about.

SPOLER ALERT!

On the ghost ship there are 5 levers and a legend that says something like "Pull the levers! 2 4 5 1 3 "

With this is mind you would assume that means pull lever 2 first, lever 4 second, lever 5 third, etc.
So with these ("o") representing levers you would expect to pull them in this order:

o - o- o- o- o
4th 1st 5th 2nd 3rd

This doesn't work. What else can you do!?

Then it finally dawned on me after about 3 hours of on off play over the course of about a week that the clue meant something else!
24513 doesn't mean pull lever 2 first, lever 4 second, lever 5 third, etc.
It in fact means pull lever 1 second, lever 2 fourth, lever 3 5th, etc, so the actual order is this:

o - o - o - o - o
2nd 4th 5th 1st 3rd

Slider puzzles.

Slider. Puzzles.

SLIDER FUCKING PUZZLES.

God, I hate slider puzzles. They make me want to curl up and cry when I see them in video games.

I actually stayed up all night trying to do a puzzle on Metroid Prime 3. I got there in the end.. at 6am :|
Copter, you are not alone. I was stuck on Twilight Princess for months because of a slider puzzle. My brother sees me doing it, walks in and solves it in a few minutes. I wish my brain could do logic :(

Those 'Block on ice' puzzles in Twilight Princess were tedious as hell. Also I totally agree with Rob Sharona, Those stupid lever puzzles were stupid. I think Portal and Zelda are the masters of annoying puzzles.

I thought some of the puzzles in 11th Hour were quite good. Especially the wacky chess board one. That one took me forever. I was disapointed in the anogram puzzles. You really didn't have to figure it out, you could just accidentally click on the object and it was considered solved.

Riven was a very good puzzle game. You get all of these pieces and for the entire game you are not sure what they mean. Slowly they start to come together. And you realize the entire game is just 2 puzzles. I thought it was very cool and fun.

Maybe the extra levels in Portal were hard, but I'm dissapointed in how easy the puzzles in the main game were. (Now if I could actually connect to Steam...)

The Zelda series has had a couple of ones that mad me stuck, can't remember any specifics though.

Too many to mention, but I find if I actually turn off the machine *gasp!* and go do something else for a while. I'll figure out the puzzle within two minutes the next time I play the game.

Every god damn puzzle i've encountered in any LoZ. Seriously, that one puzzle with the two statues that jump around that you have to rearange into their original position was horrible! I had to look up a guide for it.

Every time I do that, I always have the puzzle in mind, trying to solve it, so when I start the game up again it is as if I haven't been away from the controller at all. Little or no progress is made.

Phantom Hourglass gets another mention.

I hated, and I mean HATED, the fact that after each dungeon, you had to go back do the starting temple again, repeating the same puzzles again and again and again...

At first I thought it was a glitch, that you were supposed to be able to skip the original puzzles and head straight to the new ones.

This bugged me so much I didn't bother finishing it, much like Yahtzee, I guess.

The memory core puzzle in Mass Effect. I didn't get it.

I ended up just buying it out with that gel stuff.

Broken Sword 3: Sleeping Dragon. Those damn block puzzles take too long for what is essentially a simple puzzle
