So I'm doing a research paper for college about how video game violence does not affect human behavior specifically the rise in violence towards others. I'm also looking at how sensationalism in the news and talk shows tend to demonize gaming in general. I was wondering if anyone here would know any good places to find some sources involving this subject. (I have about 7 right now but I could use more) Any help would be appreciated and thank you ^_^

Fox seems happy to demonize gaming every few days, just search something like "Fox violent games murder" and you'll probably hit up a few sensationalist articles.

Here's something to ponder:

Before ANY violent video game was ever, EVER created, we've experienced two world wars, Vietnam, countless numbers of religious conflicts and general tribal conflicts. Now, what games were THEY playing back then when all of these things broke out?

Please keep this in mind as you search for answers and as Generic Gamer said - search for answers with an open mind. If go into anything expecting something, you are more than likely going to be disappointed at what you find.

You're doing it wrong.

You've already decided what your research will prove, you need to go in to this with an open mind and ask whether it does or not, not say it doesn't and then set out to prove that.

For sources I'd read the news articles on here and use the quoted sources from each one. Don't use the news articles here directly.

Actually I wanted to go in not choosing a side, but our composition teacher required we pick one, and do three reasons why its right, and one counter argument.

I wrote a paper close to this one using Extra Credits and a TED talk as my sources. I proved that not only are games good but they can potentially save the world. However even I understand that video games CAN make people worse, just look at kids who play CoD.

Oh OK that's a bit different then, I assumed it was a scientific report.

To be honest my endorsement of our news articles still stands, this site's written an article on every major report published.

Thanks for the info ^_^

Yeah, but it also seems like every news source is doing it, its like the high ratings, put people in a frenzy button

When i had to do a speech on something like this for English when i was in school, I chose to draw parallels between games and TV, specifically, the fact that some-amount odd years ago, TV was the great sweeping disrupting force on our children, desensatising them to violence and causing them to do violent acts. I then went on to how games are displayed according to the wilder public, and drawed parallels to the two. I then went on to point out how much of a vital part TV takes in most of our lives, and how that history, will repeat itself, and before you know it, gaming will be a vital part of our lives. It happened with TV, did it not?

"Grand Theft Childhood" was a book written on the subject, based off several years of research. Always makes a good source

A source? I know of none that aren't linked to video game websites, which of course always are biased toward this subject. Try proving sources saying games make you violent wrong.

Most of mine aren't attached to gaming sites or magazines or anything, for instance one is a statistical view of how violence has lowered over the years which was done by the Youth Violence Project of the U.S. Department of Justice. Also gaming sites tend to be invested in these types of things so of course they would tend to find these links and attach themselves to it, they wouldn't find links pertaining to country music or skydiving and talk about them, it's not their user base, but I figured I'd ask around on the forum if anyone knew any good sources I might not know. You can always do well to get other peoples point of view or ask to use some of their knowledge and a forum on a gaming site would be ideal for finding other peoples information on video games.

I was thinking of doing something along this line as wel, Im still trying to come up with a proper outline of ideas to get it to at least 7 pages long (Im horrible at stretching a paper)
